Why Jack S Bender chose Port Wing
We had always traveled the North Shore once a year for vacation once a year. Ten years ago I had a overnight business appointment in Bayfield, WI. With down time I drove the shore from Bayfield to Duluth and fell in love with the area. The water is so much warmer, the sunsets are incredible and it is so quiet and serene. We purchased the lot and built a log home in 2005.
What makes this Cabin unique
We purchased the lot because we felt it had the very best view of the lake from the south shore. We have 400 feet of shore line to view the lake. The home was built 75 feet from the bluff line. The triangle windows, and the two loft gables were designed to take advantage of the view of the lake.

Gorgeous sunsets and loved the sound of the waves!
Property was perfect! Well maintained and 20 yards from Lake Superior! They provided wood for our nightly bonfires! The night skies are filled with stars. The best we’ve ever seen. Owner was very responsive to our needs!
Best view of the Lake. Gorgeous in any weather!
Nicely decorated, incredibly comfortable, plenty of room and all the amenities! What else do you need? Just the right mix of people and you're set for a great week.
Beautiful place, even better then the pictures. Our group had a wonderful time, plenty of room and honestly felt at home during our stay. We will be back.
Peace & Quiet & Lake Superior
Some friends and I stayed in Port Wing after kayaking the Apostle Islands and had the best time. Our hosts were responsive and flexible.
The cabin was perfect and we took full advantage of the property. Every night we smoked cigars out by the bonfire, listening to the waves crash and picking out landmarks like Split Rock on the North Shore.
During the day the deck was In high demand with the adirondack chains in constant use.
While not too far from Bayfield, we opted to explore Port Wing and had fun eating at the Port Bar, South Shore Bar and Bear Paw Cafe. Everybody was friendly and the prices were extremely reasonable.
If you're out for some R&R on the Southern Shore of Lake Superior, put this place at the top of your list!
All the five-star reviews are true; this is a beautiful property. It is a large log home with modern conveniences. The home was exactly as pictured plus very clean, tidy and nicely decorated. You have a huge view of Lake Superior; we enjoyed watching a couple summer storms form over the lake and watching the color of the water change daily. The home's kitchen was well-equipped and the furniture was comfy. We grilled burgers on the charcoal grill one evening and attempted a bonfire until the rain sent us inside.
The homeowner provided lots of great info about nearby dining and activities. We enjoyed the Bear Paw Cafe in nearby Port Wing. Most days we took short trips to nearby towns. Bayfield is a must where we enjoyed a variety of cute shops, the rooftop bar at Bayfield Inn, the ferry to Madeline Island, Manitou sailboat cruise at sunset and a couples massage at Superior Body Massage & Spa. Took a scenic hour's drive to Cable, WI to eat at Brick House Cafe which was on Food Network Diners Drive-ins and Dives; blueberry french toast and eggs Benedict did NOT disappoint. Iron River has White Winter Winery where we sampled mead and got some cute gifts. We absolutely loved the powerboat sea cave tour from Good Earth Outfitters in Cornucopia (the tour guide was so knowledgeable). In the same town is Ehlers General Store and Little Nikki's restaurant.
Northern Wisconsin is very rural and beautiful. We had good Verizon cell coverage at the cabin and in the towns we visited, but some areas between towns had no coverage. It wasn't a big deal since the car had GPS, but you might want to map out trips ahead of time. We live in a big city and loved that this area had no billboards and no fast food to offer.
I'm sure we missed some great treasures in this area, which only gives us reason to return!
We would absolutely recommend this cabin. The homeowners were outstanding to deal with -- we are all lucky they share their piece of nature's paradise with vacationers like us!
Beautiful lakeside cabin in northern Wisconsin
We stayed at this property in mid-July and had a great time. The owners were great to work with and were very responsive with communications. The cabin is very clean and comfortable. There was plenty of space for my two children and my wife and I. The cabin is very private and quiet. Beautiful views of Lake Superior from the back yard with large windows letting in lots of light. Fairly close to Apostle Islands National Lakeshore to the East and Duluth Minnesota to the West; we did both of these as great day trips. We also did a day trip driving north of Duluth up the north shore of Lake Michigan to see some amazing waterfalls (Gooseberry Falls State Park was a favorite). Fire pit and charcoal grill in backyard made for nice evenings. Didn't have too many mosquitos or other flying bugs but did see several ticks so remember your bug spray. Although the cabin is right on the water there is not much of a beach to speak of so access to the water is fairly limited...there are beaches with easier water access within a short drive. Water supply to the cabin has a strong taste of iron so we brought bottled water for drinking, cooking, and making coffee. Overall, we had a very pleasant trip.
We are so thankful for all of our guests that have shared Superior View with us. Just a thought about the beach . The water level on the lake is up several feet over the last 5 years. 5 year prior we had 20 to 40 feet of beach. On a very calm day we have 10 to 15 feet. If we have 3 foot waves walking the beach becomes quite difficult. Many owners have lost their stairways but we have been maintaining ours. On a calm day we bring our chairs down for a bit for some r and r and are able to walk the beach with ease. Thanks so much. Jack and Cherie
People really enjoy getting out and taking in so many options from Duluth to Ashland Wisconsin. There is so much to do and see you would have to stay the whole summer. Many folks also just love to hunker down at the cabin and just relax.
