Overview

About the property

Enjoy beautiful views of the mountains of Acadia National Park across the bay right from your living room or deck. Take a five-minute walk on a scenic path through an open meadow of wildflowers and blueberries (in season) to our private beach. Try some kayaking or simply enjoy a day of collecting shells, sunbathing or swimming.

The comfortable 2BR 2BA apartment is private with its own outside entrances and deck. The first floor has a kitchen, living room, master bedroom & bath, and a deck with retractable awning and comfortable deck furniture. The second bedroom and bath, as well as the laundry room, are on the lower garden level, which is sunny and bright with large windows. The layout is ideal for two couples travelling together, or for a family desiring a little extra space.

Located on Newbury Neck, one of Maine's most beautiful peninsulas, this is an excellent place to enjoy the best of Maine. Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are just 35 miles (45 minutes) away - close enough for an easy day trip for sightseeing and shopping - but far enough away to escape the crowds and cruise ships at the end of the day. We are 12 miles from the village of Blue Hill, known for its excellent restaurants, art galleries, summer concerts and a beautiful hiking trail to the top of Blue Hill Mountain.

We have more than 1000 feet of private beach on the property and are within walking distance (1.5 miles) of the public beach and Perry's Lobster Shack where in the summer one can sit outside on the dock and enjoy a traditional Maine lobster dinner.

About Ginny Gibson

We are quiet, retired professors who enjoy sailing, skiing, travelling and reading. We have travelled much of the world, but we love Maine and would not want to live anywhere else.

Ginny Gibson purchased this apartment in 1952

Why Ginny Gibson chose Acadia

My parents bought the property in 1952. My father was an Air Force Officer so we lived all over the United States, but every summer we came to Maine. As children we loved our summers in Maine, and as adults we grew to love the other seasons as well (especially fall and winter!) My husband and I built our retirement home on the property in 2002 and added the apartment for family and friends in 2004. We began renting the apartment to the public in 2015 and have truly enjoyed sharing this beautiful place with guests from all over the world.

What makes this apartment unique

It is unusual on the east coast of the US to see mountains right next to the ocean, but Acadia National Park offers this unique scenery, and we have a wonderful view of this from our front porch. We love the quiet pace of Newbury Neck -- biking on the road, walking on our wooded trails, enjoying the beach, and simply soaking in the amazing views.

Peaceful, comfortable, well-appointed

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this apartment over an extended weekend stay. Ginny provided everything we needed to be very comfortable. It's located on a quiet peninsula that sees very little traffic. One thing to be aware of is that there are not many shops or restaurants in the local area, but the neighboring towns of Ellsworth and Blue Hill have some nice restaurants.

A little slice of heaven

  • 5 of 5

Words cannot properly explain the experience that our family had during our vacation. First off, the pictures of the property , while beautiful on this site, don't do justice to the beauty when live. Acres of wild blueberry fields and sweeping views of the bay and of Acadia (in the distance) quickly captivate the imagination and bring a true feeling of peace. In regards to the accommodations, Everything was perfect and well thought out. Ginny and Dennis, have left nothing to chance and provide just about everything your could imagine needing during your stay. The beds were comfortable and the space VERY clean. Speaking of Ginny and Dennis, they are both wonderful people and added to our experience with wonderful recommendations and kindness. This is a one of a kind place that will capture the heart and mind! We have already begun planning a return visit.

Peace and tranquility

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful updated in-law suite. The place is immaculate, and the scenery was some of the best I've ever seen, cadillac mountain from our porch!!! It was truly a pleasure meeting Ginny and Dennis, they are truly some of the sweetest people ever!! We spent our days laying on the beach searching for sea glass, and shells., and our nights enjoying the many amenities the local towns have to offer. Ginny provided a VERY detailed binder with all the places to eat, and maps of the fun things to do around the area. Ginny gave us all the secrets for Acadia, which saved us hours of waiting in lines Truly a MUST visit!!!

This is a fabulous place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This listing is even more lovely than the pictures indicate. We loved the broad expense of meadow going down to the water, the well-placed chairs in various scenic spots, the availability of kayaks, the profusion of flowers, and the thoughtful consideration of our needs from our hostess.

This is a gorgeous and peaceful part of Maine, with no hint of the crowds in neighboring Acadia. It was a great springboard for hikes.

The accommodations are extremely comfortable. We were completely happy with our stay and would go back.

VRBO.Amazing view across the bay to Acadia. The keep the lawn well groomed perfect for croquet

  • 5 of 5

My husband and our 2 grandchildren enjoyed this rental. We drove to Acadia to hike, enjoy the coastline and we're eager to come back to this rental. It felt like home for the week. We looked forward coming back to this very clean and comfortable rental. The scenery was picturesgue. Hard to put into words the beauty and serenity we found here. The owners are next door they are helpful with anything you want to know about the area. I can't say enough about this vacation. A definite place to go back to regenerate.

Lovely house, lovely experience.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Ginny's lovely home. The apartment is a good size, easily accommodating four or five people. It was immaculately clean, had very comfortable beds and soft, good quality bed linens and towels (all things that I look for in a good rental). Ginny has really thought out the set up of her property and has provided everything you could possibly need for your stay. We had several days of rain while we were there and didn't mind at all because the spacious awning covered front porch was so comfortable to sit, chat, drink our coffee (and then our wine) and watch the water from before heading into town for dinner at a local restaurant. Rainy days or sunny days, it was all in all a very enjoyable experience, guaranteed to relax you. Thank you very much, Ginny.

We are located on a scenic peninsula with beautiful views of Acadia National Park across the bay. To see a wider view of our location and the surrounding area, zoom out by clicking 4 times on the '-' sign on the Google Map above.

Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are 35 miles (45 minutes) away by car - close enough for an easy day trip for sightseeing and shopping - but far enough away to escape the crowds and cruise ships at the end of the day. We are 12 miles from the village of Blue Hill, known for its excellent restaurants, art galleries, summer concerts and a beautiful hiking trail to the top of Blue Hill Mountain.

Our peninsula, 'Newbury Neck', is a popular destination in Maine. Our property has 1000 feet of private beach accessible by a five-minute walk or by car down our private drive. The Newbury Neck Road is about 7 miles long (see Google Map above) and is a very pleasant bike ride through trees and open fields. The apartment faces east, so from the deck or living room you can watch a beautiful sun/moonrise over the mountains and bay.

We have about 10 acres of wild blueberry fields on the property. Depending on weather, the blueberries usually ripen in August. You are welcome to watch us harvest our berries or pick some yourselves if the fields are producing during your visit.

Fall foliage is always worth seeing. A walk in the woods or a drive through the countryside may offer glimpses of breathtaking colors. The leaves usually start changing color in mid-September and peak by mid-October.
