Enjoy beautiful views of the mountains of Acadia National Park across the bay right from your living room or deck. Take a five-minute walk on a scenic path through an open meadow of wildflowers and blueberries (in season) to our private beach. Try some kayaking or simply enjoy a day of collecting shells, sunbathing or swimming.
The comfortable 2BR 2BA apartment is private with its own outside entrances and deck. The first floor has a kitchen, living room, master bedroom & bath, and a deck with retractable awning and comfortable deck furniture. The second bedroom and bath, as well as the laundry room, are on the lower garden level, which is sunny and bright with large windows. The layout is ideal for two couples travelling together, or for a family desiring a little extra space.
Located on Newbury Neck, one of Maine's most beautiful peninsulas, this is an excellent place to enjoy the best of Maine. Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are just 35 miles (45 minutes) away - close enough for an easy day trip for sightseeing and shopping - but far enough away to escape the crowds and cruise ships at the end of the day. We are 12 miles from the village of Blue Hill, known for its excellent restaurants, art galleries, summer concerts and a beautiful hiking trail to the top of Blue Hill Mountain.
We have more than 1000 feet of private beach on the property and are within walking distance (1.5 miles) of the public beach and Perry's Lobster Shack where in the summer one can sit outside on the dock and enjoy a traditional Maine lobster dinner.

We are quiet, retired professors who enjoy sailing, skiing, travelling and reading. We have travelled much of the world, but we love Maine and would not want to live anywhere else.
Ginny purchased this Apartment in 1952
Why Ginny chose Surry
My parents bought the property in 1952. My father was an Air Force Officer so we lived all over the United States, but every summer we came to Maine. As children we loved our summers in Maine, and as adults we grew to love the other seasons as well (especially fall and winter!) My husband and I built our retirement home on the property in 2002 and added the apartment for family and friends in 2004. We began renting the apartment to the public in 2015 and have truly enjoyed sharing this beautiful place with guests from all over the world.
What makes this Apartment unique
It is unusual on the east coast of the US to see mountains right next to the ocean, but Acadia National Park offers this unique scenery, and we have a wonderful view of this from our front porch. We love the quiet pace of Newbury Neck -- biking on the road, walking on our wooded trails, enjoying the beach, and simply soaking in the amazing views.

Peace and Pefection
Ginny and Dennis were the ultimate hosts and I could not have asked for a better stay. I would actually give them 10 stars if I could. I will be back with my husband. Soon. Nancy Waddell
Thank you for a lovely stay!
Clean as a whistle and soo organized! . . .all of us would definitely recommend to anyone . . .Ginny has a vast knowledge of the area and provides just the right amount of hospitality!
The Gibson's were very nice people and their property is one of the nicest properties we have rented. We rented the place for three nights in October to enjoy the Fall color of Maine and visit The Acadia National Park which we included a nice tour of the Park and lovely "easy lobster" lunch! We rented the apartment with friends. This totally private apartment was at one time a Mother In Law Suite attached to the Gibson's home. This is a beautiful area with a nice hiking area down to the water thru what are blueberry patches which are farmed and harvested earlier in the year! We didn't use them but they have Kayaks for use on the water and a great place for bonfires on the water's edge! The apartment had a lovely living room with a TV, a great kitchen and two bedrooms with their own bathrooms and TV's. There is a nice front porch for enjoying the quiet and serenity of the area with views of the mountains of the park off in the distance and water from one of the many ocean inlets common to the coast of Maine. This is a very quiet serene place to visit and enjoy! I highly recommend this place for two to four people! Have fun as we did!
A peaceful and beautiful location just off Union River Bay in Surry.
A friend and I stayed at Ginny and Dennis Gibson's apartment for a full week and we couldn't have been more please with the location, the apartment itself, and the generosity of our hosts. Ginny was full of excellent suggestions on where to eat and what to do. She even knew the one day that the cruise ships would not be embarking in Bar Harbor - a day we took advantage of to eat at the Bar Harbor Inn and stroll quietly through the town. The apartment includes free use of their kayaks, bikes, and beach fire pit. The apartment was immaculate and beds very comfortable. Each morning we rose to have our coffee and breakfast on the porch as the sun came up over the bay. We highly recommend this place if you're looking for both quiet times and plenty of activities on Mt. Desert.
Home away from home but better!!
This was the best and cleanest VRBO place I've ever stayed! The people were extremely nice and the house had everything you could ever want or need! It was on the water with a beautiful view.
Great place, Wonderful Hosts
As many businesses know, there is no better testimonial than repeat customers. This was our third year to stay with Ginny and Dennis and we are already making plans for next year. They have wonderful place in a great location and are super hosts. They are conveniently located near Ellsworth, Blue Hill, Bar Harbor, and Acadia National Park. The potential day trips are too numerous to mention or you can relax "at home" on their private beach. Highly recommended!
We are located on a scenic peninsula with beautiful views of Acadia National Park across the bay. To see a wider view of our location and the surrounding area, zoom out by clicking 4 times on the '-' sign on the Google Map above.

Our peninsula, 'Newbury Neck', is a popular destination in Maine. Our property has 1000 feet of private beach accessible by a five-minute walk or by car down our private drive. The Newbury Neck Road is about 7 miles long (see Google Map above) and is a very pleasant bike ride through trees and open fields. The apartment faces east, so from the deck or living room you can watch a beautiful sun/moonrise over the mountains and bay.
We have about 10 acres of wild blueberry fields on the property. Depending on weather, the blueberries usually ripen in August. You are welcome to watch us harvest our berries or pick some yourselves if the fields are producing during your visit.
Fall foliage is always worth seeing. A walk in the woods or a drive through the countryside may offer glimpses of breathtaking colors. The leaves usually start changing color in mid-September and peak by mid-October.
