Beautiful home in rainforest
We loved this home. We traveled with 4 small children and they loved the house and the wrap around porch - made it easy to keep track of them. It is a home in the middle of the rain forest, with beautiful flora surrounding the property; it tends to be damp but that comes with the territory. The wood burning stove, dehumidifier, and plenty of towels made it very comfortable.
Bea was wonderful - available whenever we needed her but letting us enjoy our holiday.
We would definitely return. We could have stayed more than three days at Volcano National park and got to see the lava fountains in Kilauea cauldera.
very nice for two day visit
Owner was responsive to questions. Facilities and equipment were very good. location great for accessing volcano related activity. We would stay here again.
Due to actions of owner, we will never stay at this property or recommend it to anyone.
We don't usually speak ill of people so we will only say be aware that the furnishings/amenities are sparse and the situation a little unstable. The property is in a nice neighborhood, but the house itself was not that great. The entire house was not well lit. One of the "bedrooms" had no overhead lights at all. There were skylights throughout the house, but they were streaked with dirt on the outside and covered in spider webs on the inside. The house is advertised for occupancy of 10-12. I would not suggest having more than 8 people here. There are only 6-8 plates, bowls, coffee cups and glasses. We had to purchase paper plates, bowls and laundry detergent for our stay. There are only 4 steak knives total, which is probably because there was no grill for use, making it very difficult to cook for the number of people that we had. We can adapt to issues like this, however what had the most negative impact on our stay was the actions of the owner. After initial walk-through, the owner suddenly appeared on the property confronting us about the number of people and cars that were there. She had license numbers and demanded to know who was driving each vehicle, who was visiting and who was staying at the property. These demands continued via text message and e-mail past 11 pm that night, when I finally turned off my devices, to end the harrassment. The next day was worse. We went on a bike ride; while we were gone, the owner entered the property and went through our personal belongings looking for identification to determine who was staying at the house. When we returned from our ride, I had a text from owner stating that we could no longer play music, have visitors or use the grill we had brought from a friends house (she had given us permission the day before to do all this, but apparently changed her mind). Shortly thereafter, owner arrived and was at property for over 2 hours. She would not leave and would not leaves us alone. Finally, It became obvious that owner would not leave until I apologized to her, at which point she made it perfectly clear that this was all my fault and never would have happened if we hadn't deceived her about the number of people staying at the house. We paid for 10 guests at 5 nights. We had 12,12,12,9 and 7 guests for each night, respectively. I felt demeaned and belittled by the owner and the stress of dealing with this person had an adverse effect on what was supposed to be an enjoyable reunion.
This customer intentionally lied about the # of people in his group and the intended use of the house prior to us accepting the reservation. If he would have been honest upfront, he never would have been able to make the reservation via Airbnb, due to the maximum allowable occupancy at the house.
Upon arrival this customer lied to our face, swearing there were only 10 people and only the 5 cars, even though that was hard for us to believe based on the amount of stuff they brought in their big trucks. They never ask upfront for permission to bring lots of extra chairs, tables, and beds into the house, permission to bring a huge barbeque that posed a potential fire danger on our lanai, or ask to allow many non-registered local friends visit at the rental, which is not allowed under the regular rental agreement.
Through a neighbors call, due to the large number of cars parked on the property, we found out that there were lots more people than what was disclosed, just as we suspected. Due to great concern, the next day a house check was done where it was obvious that they had several more people staying at the house. This was apparent by the additional number of beds they brought into the house, as well as the # of suitcases present. Some guys even slept on the outside porch .. At no time did we go through any of the customer's belongings, all we did was count the # of beds, which obviously should not have been more than what "we" provided with the house. ..and common sense would dictate that one person usually does not sleep in multiple beds, so it makes it rather easy to count.
When meeting up with them at the house about the actual # of people, this customer still lied and said "10" straight to our face and said he rented the house and he could "do whatever he wanted while he was in it", as it was his house now.
Any person would worry about their place with this kind of disrespectful, dishonest guests at their house. Obviously his "so called" apology did not mean anything either, based on his own writing. His review is filled with more lies and inaccuracies, but it does not surprise us, as it is intended to get back at us for having caught him in his lies in front of his friends. Upon their departure we found several damage issues, including deep burn-holes in the carpet.
We are just thankful that all our other guests are honest caring people and appreciative of us sharing the Aloha we have for one another in the Islands with them.
Beautiful house in great location
We had a really nice stay here in Volcano! We had 7 adults and one baby, and there were plenty of sleeping spaces for all of us. The hot tub was a nice bonus! Everything was clean, and there were easily enough dishes in the kitchen for us to use. The owner is very friendly, and sent me a ton of info about the area before we arrived--places to eat, where to view lava, beach info, etc. It was neat to be so close to the national park entrance--we went over to see the glow at 11PM and we had the viewing area all to ourselves and could actually hear the lava moving in the crater (this strategy was also suggested by the owner). Great place, we'd definitely come back!
Great, quiet location
This home is in the perfect location for visiting Volcano. The owner sent us a ton of really helpful information on things to do in the area with detailed instructions and was easily reachable if needed. The house has a great hot tub you can enjoy while listening to the rain fall in a very secluded location. The surrounding area seemed really safe and the home is completely surrounded by nature so you can enjoy complete privacy. The only negative I have to write about is the cleanliness of the home and the amount of bugs. I know the climate makes it difficult to keep spiders and other bugs out of the home, but there are old cobwebs in a lot of areas and the home definitely could have used a deep cleaning.
Great property. Great host.
We very much enjoyed our stay. The house is a unique structure in a beautiful location, surrounded by lush garden and the sounds of nature. Everything was super clean with comfortable furniture/beds. Add another 5 stars for the host: a delightful woman who greeted us when we arrived after dark. She made us feel welcome and provided a lot of helpful information about the area.
Short distance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park located right next to Volcano Village. Perfect place to explore the National Park and the waterfalls, botanical gardens and everything else the lush green tropical East side of the Big Island has to offer. Peaceful, tranquil, a great place to spend quality time with each other and family.
