About Eric Holmlund

We have 6 children, live in Colorado and enjoy vacationing at our 'Fish Camp' in Lake Providence, Louisiana.

Eric Holmlund purchased this house in 2014

Why Eric Holmlund chose Lake Providence

We had always wanted to have a lake house. Along with our kids, we love water activities, fishing, kayaking, boating, etc.

In 2013 we discovered Lake Providence, and fell in love the the town and its people. With a rich cultural heritage, and southern charm, it's a great place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of life.

What makes this house unique

This property was perfect for us because it fits our whole family, has a great dock, and is close to our favorite local cuisine at places like The Dock and My Dream Eatery. We love relaxing in the screened in porch, a great place to do some reading or writing. We also enjoy playing board games as a family, and there is an assortment of them at the house.

There is a swing-set in the back yard to keep young children entertained.

We also enjoy cycling and running. Although the terrain is flat, the roads are good and the scenery is pretty. Interestingly, it is precisely a half-marathon (13.1 miles) to run around the lake.

Great Lake Getaway!

  • 4 of 5

The camp itself was as we expected. Very spacious and accommodating. The dock needs some major work but otherwise a great rental.

Overall very accommodating for our large family. We enjoyed a nice weekend get away- suited us well.

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed water sporting the most. Caught little fish. Enjoyed the family friendliness of the and books for little ones, games, etc. Well stocked with most all of our needs. Liked early check in and late check out, with easy access, and finding everything in good order upon arrival.

We did enjoy and use the kayak. There's a nice paddleboard but we couldn't find its own paddle. Had to use the kayak paddle, so couldn't enjoy both at same time.

Took a while for us to finally gain access to wi fi, and as stated online, streaming was slow and difficult. But the whole area is basically out of a service area. Not necessarily a bad thing but worth noting for those who might not like that minor inconvenience.

Also, the dock is very old, unstable and hazardous as stated in previous review.

Again, overall, it suited our large family well for a nice weekend get away.

very comfortable

  • 4 of 5

Really nice accommodations for a large group or family with lots of kids. Enjoyed the dock and patio. The large room downstairs is really nice, plenty of room. Leave your TV cravings at home; there is no cable or network. There is a television and dvd player for movies (bring your own).

The owner has made everything real convenient, decent gas grill, fishing rods, lake toys, kitchen ware, etc...

We would, and will, go back!!

Eugene Haley Sports Complex (Baseball fields just down the street, easy walk)

Byerley House Visitor Center (1.9 miles, around the corner of lake)

Louisiana Cotton Museum (4 miles, on other side of lake)

Panola Pepper Company (Offers tours. 10.4 miles)

Poverty Point (A UNESCO World Heritage Site. 24 miles)

Vicksburg National Military Park (55 miles)

The house is located across from Byerley Airport. If you have your own plane, that could be convenient. Otherwise, it's not a busy airport. You'll just see a couple of crop dusters taking off and landing during the day in crop-dusting season.

Lake Providence is an excellent warm water fishery containing a variety of species including Largemouth Bass, White Perch, Buffalo, Bream (such as Bluegill and other sunfish), and multiple species of Catfish and Gar.

Other wildlife is also abundant, with turtles frequenting the area around the dock, birds swooping down to catch fish, and the occasional snake. While a few alligators have been known to live in the lake, we've never seen them and they do not pose any threat.

You can fish directly from our dock. Children can catch a variety of species using worms. Night fishing is also excellent, with catfish swarming the shallows at night. The avid bass fisherman can take out our kayak and explore the shorelines, or bring your own boat.

We have a selection of fishing poles and other fishing gear available at the house for your use. Additionally there is a bait and tackle shop (Ingleside) nearby.

We provide a kayak, stand-up paddle board (SUP), windsurf rig, and plenty of life jackets for our guests to use (all included in the house rental price).

If you would like to bring a power boat, there is a public boat launch just 100 yards away so you can easily launch your boat and tie it up at our dock during your stay.
