Discover Summerhurst Retreat, a 3,000 sq. ft. custom-built Lindal cedar luxury entertainment home with beautiful and expansive views of Puget Sound (ocean), the Cascades (mountains), alongside modern design custom amenities!

At Summerhurst Retreat, we pride ourselves in cleanliness, quality, modern spa-like design, and entertainment. We’ve personally stayed in many vacation homes, and researched what would make an exceptional rental home.

The home is spacious with 3 floors, 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths, with vaulted ceilings and classic North-West architecture. The central feature in the home is a 22-foot soaring cathedral ceiling encompassing the main room and upstairs loft. Unwind in the master bedroom (king bed) with a spa-like, modern bathroom (2 sinks, a 2-person shower and indulgent soaker tub) with warming towel bars. Relax in the comfortable guest bedroom (queen bed) and have the kids in the loft (4 twin beds), each room with its own en suite bathroom. Downstairs, there is an office with desk, computer, printer and twin bed. All beds have comfortable memory foam mattresses, with high-thread count cotton linens and high-quality towels throughout. The house comfortably sleeps 9, however, we can accommodate up to 12 (with high-quality SoundAsleep Dream Series air beds - 2 queen and 2 twin). A serene color palette of white walls, fir and maple wood, exposed wood beams, and black slate tile will remind you of relaxation in a high-end massage studio.

The ground floor has the garage, the main foyer entrance, a small office / bedroom, a powder bathroom (.5), the guest bedroom, and the guest bathroom w/ shower tub. The second floor has the kitchen, dining area, living area, main room, master bedroom, master bath, and wrap around deck. The third floor has a loft bedroom and bath.

Kitchen and Dining: Prepare gourmet meals for a group and host your events in our modern, well-equipped, and spacious gourmet kitchen and dining areas (serves 12). It truly is a chef’s delight! The kitchen has four large workstations, quartz surfaces, quality cooking accessories and loads of brand new stainless steel appliances (Subzero refrigerator/freezer w/ ice, Subzero 100+ bottle wine fridge, Dacor electric double ovens, microwave and warming drawer, Miele 5-burner induction range with exceptional hood and a roomy Miele dishwasher). Enjoy the oversized farm house style sink with industrial faucet sprayer, restaurant-style open shelving look, and all the necessary table-top accessories and appliances. We’ve spared no luxury, from including a professional Kitchen-Aid stand mixer to Reed and Barton silverware for a modern, elegant table setting. We have a 2-burner propane BBQ (during dry months: approx. May through October). The formal Saarinen marble table seats 6, a kitchen banquette table seats 4, a small table can sit 2-3, and the huge island has 4 tall bar stools. Enjoy the food and the view as your guests will be impressed and well catered in this restaurant-like dining experience.

Entertainment features: The property has many entertainment features, including: a brand new 6-person premium Sundance hot tub overlooking Puget sound, a large deck with chairs, an indoor gas fireplace, an outdoor wood burning fireplace and seating area, wireless Dish satellite internet (Wi-Fi), two 32-inch flat screen TVs, one 50" flat screen TV with Nintendo Wii system (4 controllers and lots of games), 200+ channels (Dish), board games and cards, a bocce ball court, horse shoes, a dart board, a thorough collection of books for your reading enjoyment. For those who enjoy gardening or taking walks, take in the Japanese-inspired gardens with maple, pine and magnolia trees, flowering shrubs and plants. Enjoy the fireplace by the trees and share drinks and stories with friends. Inside or outdoors, there is plenty of room for entertaining or just relaxing and getting away from it all.

Gather together for enjoyable conversations. We have many areas to share memories together, including the main dining table, bar and dining areas, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, as well as luxurious seating conveniently located throughout the home.

Enjoy the divine heated floor tiles in the kitchen, dining room, and master bathroom. The home is filled with hardwood and slate tile flooring, vaulted ceilings, skylights, wood doors and moldings, and well-appointed, complete furnishings throughout. We decorated the home to have a peaceful, inviting, low-allergen, Zen-like retreat setting.

Lots of sun and light: Enjoy the amazing views of the Puget Sound and feel the warmth of the sunlight (South East facing) from the expansive 2-story cathedral main room, the many windows and skylights in the dining area, foyer, and bedrooms. Use the amazing loft for yoga or meditation space overlooking the ocean as you watch the sunrise each morning. We have upgraded the home to dimmable soft-white LED lighting, so you will surely find the ambiance relaxing as you can set a custom mood.

The home is on 0.75 acres in a quiet, private area of Vashon, so you will have restful experiences here. Bald eagles, deer, and many small songbirds make the outdoor space here peaceful and serene, as you enjoy watching the ships and sailboats pass through the shipping lane. This is a great chance to limit your use of technology and enjoy the time with your family, friends, a yummy home-cooked meal, or a good book. This home was designed to be a welcoming oasis, for those wanting the complete designer-home experience, so pick up some delicious gourmet groceries from Vashon Thriftway or your fresh fruit and vegetables from the Saturday Farmer Market, and come stay for a while!

For those wishing to escape the city, there is nothing better than Vashon. Since it is only traveled by ferry, it has a truly island experience with a friendly local culture. It definitely has a small-town community spirit. The island of Vashon is just 15 minutes ferry ride away from major cities, but feels like you are on a relaxing island getaway. It offers a gourmet grocery with excellent wine offerings, specialty shops, bookstores, fine restaurants, art galleries, bakeries, a movie theater and more. Please strike up a conversation with the locals as many people are sociable here.

Adventures: If you are into cycling, Vashon is a great getaway to log in miles of road-based wilderness or coastline. If you enjoy watersports, you can paddle around the island (Kayak rentals available at store) or enjoy fishing or crabbing on the pier. There are many hikes to enjoy and many birds and animals to see. Several accessible beaches are within driving distance. The best sand beach (KVI beach) that has parking is about a 12 minute drive. Take a day trip to downtown Seattle, Mount Rainier National Park, Olympic National Park and Mount Saint Helens, or the many museums in the general region. The home guide contains many activities to do, so simply bring some clothing layers and appropriate shoes and you should find many activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Wildlife: Abundant wildlife, including small birds, hawks, bald eagles, deer, raccoons and the friendly neighborhood dogs visit the property and area. You truly feel like you are retreating in nature. If you are a gardener, you will enjoy almost year-round flowers from the property.

Signing a Rental Agreement (via DocuSign, scan/email, or fax) and providing a copy of Driver's License is required.

Renter(s) must pay a $500 refundable “Damage Deposit”

Pets: All typical household pets are considered, except NO CATS, at $75 for first pet, and $50 for each additional pet. Pet rules must be followed. It is important to plan for your pets as products (ex. kennels, cages, etc.) are limited on Vashon.

EXTRA NIGHTLY GUEST AND DAY-USE GUEST FEES (EVENTS): Due to wear to the property, house and its contents, and septic system… When greater than five (5) guests are on the property: 1) Renter(s) are required to pay a non-refundable “Extra Nightly Guest Fee,” as indicated by the booking system, per each additional guest staying overnight, AND 2) Renter(s) are required to pay a non-refundable “Day-use Guest Fee”, at $12.50 per person, per day, for any guests on property during day hours not already paid for by nightly guest fee (“Day-use guests”). With prior approval, management may offer reductions/exceptions.

Cancellation policy: If a written cancellation notice is sent to SR greater than sixty (60) days before the arrival date, then all paid monies will be refunded, otherwise no refunds are given.

QUIET USE: No offensive activity or action, which may become a nuisance to neighbors, shall be carried out on the property. No Quiet hours are 10pm-8am.

Hot tub (no fee): All guests must read and follow the hot tub rules. A non-refundable $75 hot tub drain and clean fee will be charged for an unclean hot tub left by renters. Use the cover.

NON-SMOKING PROPERTY: If you wish to smoke, please do so over the gravel parking lot or asphalt only.

Parking: Strictly limited to 6 vehicles.

What makes this house unique

This home is one of the few custom-designed Lindal cedar homes in the area. This type of home perfectly complements the North-West territory and views. The view here is amazing and the number one reason we purchased the property. However, there are so many exceptional qualities about the house that it is too long to list. Beautiful home, wonderful vista, and a great time for friends & family.

Impressive home, with fantastic views of the water, open living spaces, an extremely well equipped kitchen along with a hot tub gazebo as the icing on the cake. Perfect for both entertaining and relaxation. Our hosts were gracious, and always available, helping us plan and problem solve every step of the way. We were very happy with our stay and would recommend to any group trying to get away for a long weekend.

Amazing vacation! Our family loved the stay and we will be back

The house is amazing. 7 of us stayed. Plenty of activities for kids, and very restful for the adults. I don't understand the negative reviews. This place is amazing and having owned a VRBO before, I wouldnt have half the stuff that they had in this place. There is good reason to have as many rules and we did not find them all that out of the ordinary. Jeff was very communicative and a pleasure to work with. He was accessible whenever we had a question. The house is uber luxurious and well-appointed. The view is amazing. Kitchen is to die for. You will not be disappointed...

We had 10 people in this house and never felt cramped! Enough bathrooms for everyone and plenty of space in each room.Great escape from the city! Owners were very responsive to questions during our stay as well

READ THE CONTRACT. If you do not want to be recorded or videotaped- or if you do not want your friends, children or family to be recorded or videotaped, do not rent here. We had a group of 5 women stay here with ages ranging from 30-64, and unfortunately we did not read the contractual language because it was SO long and drawn out. We should have. Had we known about agreeing to being recorded, we would not have rented here.

READ THE CONTRACT. By signing the contract, you agree that the home is in perfect condition and should the maid or care-taker find anything wrong with the home after you leave, you will be responsible for the costs. This includes any issues that may have been there prior to your arrival (floor scratches, dings, stains, etc)- unless you inspect the home fully from corner to corner and report ever single small issue you see, you are technically responsible for and costs to fix those issues should the home owner accuse you of being the culprit. The contract states you will be responsible for ALL dings, scratches, etc. Again, you can be held liable for someone else’s damage.

According to the neighbor whom we met when we went for a walk, the home owner lives in California, which means he/she does not inspect the house and relies solely upon an outside party to handle all inspections. A walk-through is not performed upon arrival or departure.

The home is very nice. It’s a beautiful home and in a nice area. We were charged a substantial hot tub draining fee two weeks after our stay and sent a photo of the bottom of the hot tub with a small red line- the owner said it was a half an inch wide and 2 inches long- which it clearly was not in the photos. The owner said we caused the red line on the bottom of the hot tub by having toenail polish on our toes (which is not against the rules or listed in his rule book). He stated he would have to drain the hot tub in order to have someone use a “magic marker” to take it off. We had to pay the fine because we had no proof that we caused it or if someone prior to us did. Please BEWARE that you may get injured getting in and out of the hot tub if you are not extremely careful. Two women in our group fell very hard getting into the hot tub.READ THE CONTRACT. Should you injure yourself or if someone is injured on the property due to the negligence of the homeowner, you cannot file a claim. A nice house, but we would not rent here again.

Owner's Response: Such an unfair and twisted review! At least we have a stellar house as she didn't complain about that. 92+% of renters get their full deposit back. She did not read the contract, yet blames us in rather interesting ways. Let’s traverse through the review, shall we? The only charge against her damage deposit was for a 1" by 1/2" bright red toenail gouge in our relatively brand new 1.5 yr old premium hot tub. I charge for major or obvious damage. The mark did not come off from much scrubbing with a kitchen scrub brush. The guests admitted in text that they had newly painted toes, nor did she say she say it before her stay. The gouge was obvious and she would have noticed if it was there prior. I offered to do a basic drain the tub (takes my person 3 hours at $75) and get a $5 magic eraser cleaner at a total of approx $85 (after tax). We discussed and she agreed to the $85. Luckily it worked after much rubbing, but a small indentation is still present, which I didn't charge her for! I clearly explained the fees, and she had NO ISSUE with it, until now. I even gave her a great review and she was thankful the hot tub company didn't have to come out and fill with epoxy or cost more! She can't even admit she caused it? Now, she says two people fell. She never told me about the alleged falls prior, ever, and is irresponsible in calling us negligent in a published review, a legal claim. Hot tub wood decks can be slippery. I recommend guests to bring sandals. My "guess" is she didn't turn on the gazebo light switch. No falls have ever been reported in hot tub area before, therefore, we have a great safety track record. I think these guests shouldn't use hot tubs as it sounds like they have difficulty managing their feet. Rental Agreement clearly mentions outside exterior house cameras and in garage, and we have had LOTS of families rent from us, without paranoia. The cameras obviously help us monitor the comings and goings of who comes on property from afar. We’ve caught major parties before and we are glad we have cameras as we care about safety of guests, the noise level for our neighbors and more. We have trusted staff of over 1.5 years. I am glad that I have a liability clause in contract, because I wouldn't trust these renters on my property again to not fall or stab themselves with something, and then blame us for their own behaviors. Everyone should note that damages are not "covered" in rent.

Beautiful, clean, lovely, well-appointed home with absolutely stunning view!

Two small families stayed in this gorgeous home. The house has great flow, lovely open floor plan, comfortable living spaces and a fabulous deck. The kitchen is very well equipped. Bedrooms on three levels offered privacy. We loved the hot tub and Bocce court. Video games in upstairs kids quarters were a hit also. All communication was prompt, clear and thoughtful. It was our family's first trip to the Island. We loved Vashon Island: the nature, wildlife, beaches, culture, excellent food/restaurants, kind / warm people, and small town feel. We especially enjoyed kayaking and SUPing at Quartermaster Harbor where we were visited by seals. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay! This is a great place to stay when visiting Vashon.
