We are a group of 80 year old long time friends. We have been spending several days together each October for the past 20 some years. Shabby Chic was the perfect house! We each had our own room and common area was perfect. Kitchen accommodated multiple cooks. We plan on a return trip next year!Vashon is truly beautiful.
The property is beautiful and was well appointed with everything we needed. We relaxed over coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening while watching eagles, osprey and harbor seals. Easy access to both Tacoma and Seattle by ferry. A perfectly relaxing stay.
5 star through and through! Our group loved this vashon gem - a perfect spot for soaking up the Seattle summer sun. It’s as pictured/advertised, super well stocked and has great amenities. The host is communicative, responsive and was accommodating to a few of our small requests.
This was a special place for our group of six friends to spend a long weekend - cozy, unique, and kind of magical. We cooked, we hiked, we simply sat outside taking in the sound, and enjoyed wonderful food at Zamorana, Ramble, and Snapdragon. We wished we could have stayed longer. Alycia was a kind and responsive host. One tip for travelers – if you are renting a car, make sure it has four-wheel-drive (I’m still shocked they even rent minivans without it)! The last stretch of road leading to the house is steep and narrow, and the frequent rain adds mud and wet leaves to the mix.
We spent two fantastic days enjoying a small family birthday celebration. Our stay was excellent, with the surrounding location and inlet views a welcome reprieve from our daily lives.
Lovely location right on Quartermaster Harbor. Well appointed with everything you needed for cooking and feeding a group. Beds were super comfortable. Lots of towels and beach towels. We had a wonderful time-sat in the Adirondack chairs, read books, watched the seals and just enjoyed ourselves.
Beautiful house with peaceful views of Quartermaster Harbor. It was great place for our family to gather with plenty of room to relax in the living room and outside. Well stocked and a convenient fridge outside for beverages. Highly recommend!
Super charming house on the water. We woke up to the sun, birds and sea otters every morning. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, kitchen well stocked with cooking equipment, and lots of space outdoors. frelaxing and visiting with family.
We came for a girls weekend and had a lovely time. The kitchen has everything you could need, the beds were comfy, the views amazing, and the friendship all the better!!!
We booked this lovely cottage for our family to celebrate the life of a family member. There were plenty of beds/rooms for everyone to have a comfortable place to sleep. The gathering places were cozy and gave us time to play games, watch movies and be together. The location was perfect and the view was wonderful. We are definitely planning to return in the summer to enjoy another family get together.

About the host
Hosted by Alycia Prather
I grew up in Washington, where my appreciation for beautiful spaces and a strong sense of hospitality were shaped early on. Before entering the world of vacation homes, I spent many years in the restaurant industry, where I learned that the smallest details — warmth, flow, comfort, and care — are what truly make people feel welcome.
I purchased my first long-term rental in 2003 and discovered short-term rentals in 2016. What began as a single, thoughtfully restored home has since evolved into a curated collection of four boutique vacation properties, each located in a place that inspires and designed with intention.
I’m drawn to special houses in special settings — homes with character, soul, and a sense of place. Each retreat is layered with thoughtful design, comfort, and personality, created to delight guests and elevate the experience of travel. My approach is deeply hospitality-driven: I want every guest to feel cared for, relaxed, and genuinely happy from the moment they arrive.
These homes are more than places to stay — they are invitations to slow down, settle in, and experience something
Why they chose this property
In 2016, we started looking for a waterfront escape—a place to unwind on weekends and share as a vacation rental. We instantly fell in love with Vashon Island. Just a 20-minute ferry from Seattle, it feels like stepping into another world: lush, peaceful, and full of small-town charm.
Then we found this 100-year-old Craftsman home on a stunning waterfront lot. Untouched and full of character, it stole our hearts. Over the next two years, we carefully restored it, blending original charm with modern comforts.
We opened up the entire front of the house so the outdoors flows inside, painted the rooms in bright, fun colors, and added playful accents throughout. Modern touches include a jetted tub, dishwasher, main-floor double washers and dryers, and a Bluetooth speaker in the upstairs shower. Funky tiles in the upstairs shower were left behind decades ago, giving the home a unique, one-of-a-kind vibe.
We refinished the floors, added granite and butcher-block counters, upgraded the kitchen with two refrigerators, updated the electrical system, and installed dimmed, chic lighting to set the perfect mood. Outside, we created a cozy patio with a gas fire pit and potted plants, all overlooking the low-bank waterfront.
This home is magical, full of character, and completely inviting—perfect for relaxing, gathering with loved ones, and making memories that last a lifetime.
What makes this property unique
This home is comfort, charm, and color all in one—lively and cheerful, yet tranquil, relaxing, and romantic. Nestled in a serene setting surrounded by wildlife and nature, it offers the perfect escape from city life.
It beautifully blends old-world Craftsman charm with thoughtful modern amenities, creating a space that feels both timeless and effortless. With seven doors along the front of the house, the indoors flows seamlessly into the outdoors, letting you feel part of nature while staying comfortably inside.
Bright, airy, and open, the home invites you to wake with the sunrise, enjoy a quiet retreat during the afternoon, and watch the moonlight dance on the water in the evening. Every moment here is designed for relaxation, connection, and unforgettable memories.
