Overview

About the property

2 bedroom, 1 bath home close to beach and downtown Marquette

This charming home was built in 1890 in Marquette’s historic east side neighborhood area. The home is 5 short blocks to Lake Superior beaches and walking/biking trails. It is under two blocks from the Third Street Shopping District which boasts several locally respected restaurants, brew pubs, shopping and art galleries. The Downtown District is within easy walking distance and has additional shopping, restaurants, brew pubs and the lower harbor area where most of our festivals take place. Staying at this home gives you the ‘local’ experience.

Marquette is a very biker friendly community with miles of trails to explore nearby. Guided mountain biking tours are available on request. There are year round events and activities to keep you busy during your stay regardless of the season.

The home consists of an updated kitchen that has every appliance any home would have. It is fully equipped so you can be as culinary as you like. The spacious bathroom has also been updated and offers a deep soaker tub/shower combination and radiant in floor heat. A full size washer & dryer are also housed within the space.

Entry, living room and bedroom furnishings are all brand new. Mattresses are also new. The home has a modern/contemporary style with some whimsical elements that complement the décor. The single level living makes watching your children easy as you have a full range of sight throughout the home. The home sleeps 4 in bedrooms. The entry room accommodates two additional people on the sleeper sofa without interfering with activities in the living area.

The back deck has an outdoor grill and dining set so you can enjoy dining al fresco, if you like. The backyard also has a standalone (locked) storage shed that you can use to store outdoor recreational equipment during your stay. The backyard is fenced so your children can play out back without concern for traffic or neighbors.

So, bring your suitcase and enjoy Marquette for a few days, a week, month or longer. Regardless of your length of stay, you’ll leave with memories that will make you want to return year after year.

About Patricia & Bruce Olson

Pat was born and raised in Marquette. Bruce attended college at NMU and MTU and fell in love with the area. After a 25 year absence, we returned to make Marquette our home once again. We love the outdoor beauty and the sense of community and pride by those that call Marquette home.

Patricia & Bruce Olson purchased this house in 2015

Why Patricia & Bruce Olson chose Upper Peninsula

We'd been looking for a vacation rental property for a while and when we saw this home, we knew we found what we were looking for. It's an ideal home for couples or a small family. The home is quaint while comfortably providing everything you need for an enjoyable stay.

The proximity to all of the key attractions was perfect. You have ready access to Lake Superior, lower harbor where most of our summer festivals occur, bike trails that connect to almost 50 miles of trails that have put Marquette on the mountain biking map. You'll also find the university and hospital conventiently nearby.

As a person who loves food and entertainment, we were also attracted to the homes proximity to several Marquette institutions: Vangos Pizza, Stuckos Pub & Grill, Casa Calabria Restaurant & Lounge, Thai House, Sweetwater Cafe, Blackrocks Brewery, Third Street Bagel, Das Steinhaus, Elizabeths Chop House, Ore Dock Brewing Company, Vierling Restaurant and more.

What makes this house unique

The modern, updated kitchen and bath appealed to our architectural tastes. The layout of the home works well for a rental home. The single level living makes oversight of your children easy as you have a full range of sight throughout the home.

The entry room has sufficient space to accommodate a sleeper sofa without interfering with activities in the living area. The kitchen is a fully functional kitchen and has every appliance I have in my own home. The radiant heated bathroom floor adds a touch of luxury that is very welcome during our cold winters. The outdoor shed gives guests an opportunity to store bikes, hockey equipment, etc. in a secured outbuilding.

Third street restaurants, breweries and art galleries can be found just two blocks away in the village area. Northern Michigan University and UP Health Systems hospital facility are also nearby.

Marquette's summer season hosts festivals, farmers markets and numerous outdoor events not to mention miles of beautiful sand beaches along the shores of Lake Superior.

Winter days are filled with downhill and cross country skiing, snow biking, the annual UP200 dog sled race, the downtown showdown snowboard event, Noquemanon ski marathon and the polar roll snow bike race.

Charming Home

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay in this home. It is perfect in every way for our family when we make the yearly trip to see family. The location is great and the home is clean and well stocked. It's comfortable and bright and cheery. The private backyard is awesome too. The hosts are readily available and very helpful.

Better than any hotel!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 loved this house. It was very clean, cozy, and fresh. We were happy to have a washer, dryer, gas grill, and backyard. The kitchen included everything we needed to make a meal. This house is centrally located; we walked downtown for dinner and shopping. In addition, we walked to the beach and a couple of parks. It's close to 3rd street too. As a former NMU alumni, we have visited Marquette many times and stayed in many hotels in the area. Honestly, staying at this house was so much better than any hotel or motel we have stayed at in the area. Thank you for doing an excellent job with your VRBO home. It was a great home base for our Marquette vacation. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!

Second time rental at Pat & Bruce's "Ohio Oasis". Same great experience: charming, clean, updated home in central Marquette. Home is exactly as pictured and described. Full kitchen and bath, two bedrooms, patio with nice back yard. Easy walking distance to the lakeshore, downtown and Third Street shopping & restaurants. Look no further for the perfect Marquette getaway!

Cute bungalow

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed our stay at this cute little house. The location is ideal; kind of halfway between the lake and downtown. The inside of the house was immaculate. Clean, bright, fresh, updated. Shower was fantastic. Bed was as comfortable as a cloud. Kitchen had all you needed with even a grill out back. The backyard is a private oasis and a great place to unwind with a beer after a day of hiking. The owner promptly refunded the security deposit. I definitely recommend staying at this property if you're in this area.
