About the Property

Beautiful, romantic design space in central Kyoto

A romantic getaway in the heart of Kyoto, The Cocoon Room is the dream space for your dream trip to Kyoto. Set on a quiet street in Downtown, it's a perfectly comfortable backdrop for you to unwind after a day's sightseeing.

The Cocoon Room is as cozy a room as you're likely to find in the city. After a day of wandering, there's nothing like coming back to a place resplendent in comfort and tranquility. Its unique layout designed by a local Kyotoite, The Cocoon Room is emblematic of a designer's renaissance, in which classic materials blend together beautifully with atmospheric imagination.

The Cocoon Room is in an old neighborhood noted for its evocative architecture. It is not uncommon to see women passing in colorful kimono and hear monks wandering the streets chanting their blessings. The subway, as well as convenience stores and a supermarket, is less than five minutes' walk. Nijo Castle, The Imperial Park, the Manga Museum, Sanjo-Dori (the Downtown shopping district), and dozens of restaurants, cafes, and bars are within an easy ten minute stroll (to which I can provide a detailed map with gourmet suggestions), and the beautiful Kamo River and Higashiyama (East Kyoto), with its many temples, is a quick twenty-minute bicycle ride away, or if you prefer, a scenic walk. Buses to go around the city are conveniently boarded just a few blocks away at the Imperial Palace and Nijo-Castle. While enjoying the space's tranquility, it's nearly as central as a visitor to Kyoto can be.

An intimate space, The Cocoon Room is ideal for couples, but can accommodate families as well (the children sleeping either with the parents or on the couch, which folds out.) Travel buddies can also enjoy the room, as the beds can be separated.

In fact, the Cocoon Room is great for families since it is less than ten minutes' walk from a major playground/ children's center as well as the Manga Museum.

Tea and coffee are provided. And there is a stereo unit for relaxing after a long day of sightseeing.

In addition to regular wifi in the room, pocket wifi is provided to help you when you explore the city. And my handmade map is an insider's guide to eating in what must be one of the best culinary cities in the world.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sean

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2012

About the owner: A native of Los Angeles, I've lived in Japan for about ten years, Kyoto for the past four. I work as a writer and a photographer and love traveling myself. My favorite places are probably India, Morocco, and Guatemala.

Why the Owner Chose Nakagyo-ku (Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan):
My wife is from Kyoto. She is the 16th generation to run the family soba restaurant (and the first woman!). The restaurant has been in business since 1465 (you really should try it if you decide to stay). We chose this building because it is in a good neighborhood (traditionally one for furniture making, just down the street for kimono making), convenient to Downtown and all its gourmet possibilities, but also the tranquility of a nice, quiet neighborhood. We live upstairs from the Cocoon Room (which is upstairs from the other property listed here, the Moon Room).

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
You will truly love the Cocoon Room if you decide to stay here. There really is no other place quite like it.
