About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3)

Just 2.5 miles from downtown Nevada City you'll find Baby Bear's Cottage, with your own private hot tub, with a view of the waterfall and pond, on 5 wooded acres, adjacent to Papa Bear's Timber Lodge (listing # 46584).This cozy log cottage can be rented alone or for additional space when renting Papa Bear's Lodge. It is an ideal location for relaxing or exploring Nevada City or the South Yuba River, both only minutes away by car.

In the heart of downtown Nevada City (2.5 miles) and Grass Valley (5 miles) you'll find great food, outstanding live theater and wonderful galleries and shops. Travel by car to skiing, river or lake kayaking and swimming. There are many bicycle trails through the surrounding hills and plenty of wine tasting venues. Local and out-of-town musicians can be heard almost any night of the week.

Check the Chamber of Commerce web site at the bottom of this page for information on the many special events happening in the area.

Try your hand at gold panning at the Yuba, and visit the Historic Empire Mine. This area is ideal for mountain bikers, kayakers and hikers, and, for those looking for a romantic getaway.

Lake Vera is a small lake surrounded by summer camps and used exclusively by them. ( Our guests have no access.) Our cabins are located on 5 acres next to Camp Augusta. In the summer months (late May to mid August) you can hear 'happy camp sounds' as children enjoy swimming, zip lining and singing around the camp fire, then off to bed by 9:30, quiet hour.

About Rene and Drue

Rene had always wanted a log home, ever since she was a child. When we found this property in 2000, we knew it was where we wanted to live and continue raising our son. We have three cabins on the property, all of which are now vacation rentals: Papa Bear's Lodge, Mama Bear's Cabin and Baby Bear's Cottage. We lived in the main lodge for a umber of years until our son as grown and on his own. Now we live in town next to Rene's pottery studio. You will see some of her pots in the cabins. We love our guests who are all fantastic and take wonderful care when renting our cabins.

Rene and Drue purchased this cabin in 2000

What makes this cabin unique

Even though we are only 3 mles from the center of town, you feel like you are out in the woods. In the sumer time, the children's camp next door emits founds of laughter and activity. Some of our renters have even taken a ride on the zip line which is high up in the tree tops. In the fall winter and spring is the quiet time. The cabins are decorated with art of all kinds, and cozy comfortable furniture. The setting in the open woods is very special, and we have loved watching the generations of dear, squirrel and turkey families wander through. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we have!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Absolutely Delightful

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to find the cabin in a spotless condition and with everything we'd need to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Aside from the kitchen, which has everything you need to make a meal, there were thoughtful touches such as robes and slippers. The cabin itself is nestled among pine trees and is quiet and secluded. You are next to the Papa Bear cabin, but somehow you feel as though you're alone in the woods. And it's close enough to Nevada City without being overrun by tourists. We definitely would return.

Peaceful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Everything was wonderful. We loved listening to the sounds of nature and the waterfall. Very comfortable with all the amenities of home. The river was close and we found a new location that we had never been to which we thoroughly enjoyed. The cabin was close to town but still out in the woods. The owners made everything very easy such as directions and entry into the cabin. The only thing I would suggest to the owners is to make sure the housekeepers get the spider webs. I realize we are out in the forest but the cobs webs that I took down had been there for a while. I am excited to find such an awesome place and look forward to staying there again. The other cabins on the property looked very inviting for larger families. Thank you for making our stay so comfortable.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Mary, for the fine review and for the note about the cobwebs. We appreciate it, and are on top of it. We look forward to your return visit! Rene and Drue

The cabin was lovely!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the cabin! It was well equipped and the hot tub was right outside our cabin. The location was great and close to the main town. We recommend that you try to get there before its dark because there is no service for GPS and the roads are pretty twisty and isolated at night. The owners are great! They even emailed me to see if I left my dress at the cabin and offered to mail it to me! What wonderful hospitality:) we can't wait to come back, bring our families and stay in one of the bigger cabins. Thanks Rene and Drew!

Big Baby Bear

  • 4 of 5

Lovely cabin in lovely setting. Close to town yet secluded. Nice pond and hot tub. All necessary items for cooking and showering. Was a bit hot in the intense heat of summer ... no AC. Would definitely consider another stay.

Owner's Response: We have had unseasonably hot weather this past July. The window air conditioner in the main room usually is sufficient to keep that part of the house cool during the day, but it may be time to get one for the bedroom. We have cool nights, and encourage guests to open the windows at night to let the col air in, then close them up during the day. This usually works well. We certainly want our guests to be comfortable while on vacation! :¬)

Bear Cabins make Goldielocks Happy

  • 5 of 5

Four generations of our family stayed at the bear cabins last week. Everyone was happy, even Great gramma bear who can sometimes be hard to please! The kitchen in the main house is well equipped and big enough to cook for our group. Beds are comfy, hot tubs heavenly! We will return!
