Wooden stairs take you up to the lanai, which offers easy living at its best, with a heated pool, grill and plenty of lounge chairs to read or lay back and soak in the peaceful sights and sounds.

It’s hard to beat the feeling of floating in the warm water, looking out at the canal lined by palm trees with a backdrop of blue sky. You won’t want to come inside. But when you do, you won’t want to leave. The air conditioning and ceiling fans make sure the temperature’s always hovering just around perfect. The cozy furnishings and decorative boats and fish on the wall give the house a tranquil, seaside feel. In the wide-open dining area, the table sits beside an interior stone wall.

Or if you want to sit back and let someone else do the captaining, take a swamp buggy tour of the Everglades.
