We never even stayed. The house was a back house, revealed after payment. We weren’t worried about that until we drove up to all the junk, RVs and cars. Was there someone staying in those RVs? We did not feel alone. We proceeded to walk through the house, it was musty, closed up and not ready for guests. The porches were dirty. The town has seen its better days as there were several questionable characters walking the area. There was even one making a campfire down by the river below the house. We did not stay and we did not unpack anything. There is no way to get a human with VRBO. We wanted to take it up with the management. Once we finally got a human, he promised to help us find a place and did not. The place was nothing described in the pictures.

Very nice house with a country cottage feel to it, loved the back deck. The river area was very nice as well and caught a few fish.

Cozy stay in Martindale

Beautiful and tranquil views in the back, nice patio to eat or just watch the birds. Location was great to explore the area, centrally located and easy access to freeways.

Relaxing and quiet location

Sweet little house tucked into the trees and near the river. Comfortable beds, plenty of space. Peaceful and well taken care of. Just what we needed.

Beautiful stay on the river!

The house is beautiful and more than accommodating for two sets of adults. It was nice, peaceful, and quiet. The patio was lit away, the peaceful sit outside and listen to the birds and little creatures in the morning! Overall, perfect stay!

Peace and Relaxation

We enjoyed the peace and quiet at this location. Every evening & morning during our stay we would relax on the back porch while listening to the sound of the river and birds. We can't wait to visit again.

Recharge weekend

Blown away by the hospitality and cuteness of this property. Just a minute walk to wonderful food, live music, and access to the San Marcos River. We had a wonderful time here, and most certainly will be back.

Cozy waterfront gem

Mary was an incredible host! So welcoming and communicative. The property was perfect for relaxing with family and friends. We enjoyed walks to the river, coffee in the morning on the deck, and evenings playing games inside and on the deck. Comfortable beds, plenty of comfortable seating, and well stocked kitchen for cooking meals. We couldn’t ask for a better space or host.

Family Time by the River

This property has a great spot on the river. We enjoyed swimming and fishing right behind the house. Martindale is a super cute town that is an easy walk from the house. The stores were closed on our M/Tu visit, but would be a fun spot to wander on the weekend.

Location was great. House was clean and comfortable. Just need to make sure lawn is mowed and tree trimmed near parking area before guests arrive. River access is convenient. Owner/manager treated us well and were available to help with anything questions we had.

Relaxing weekend

We absolutely enjoyed our time here. The town was amazing! It provides great food at Martindale River Cafe, live music, and friendly community members. We loved the back porch on this property and private section of the river. The groundskeeper made sure we were safe, and the owners were so nice. Don’t skip on this one! It was perfect!

Picture on VRBO website is somewhat deceiving. The house backs up to the river. However, you can barely see the river. Lots of overgrown shrubs, a road divides the house property to the river.The house is full of antique/old furniture, and the furniture is just not comfortable.About the kitchen, it is old. I am okay with that. But it could be organized and cleaned better. The pots and pans were just thrown in the cabinets, same for the drawers full of old equipment not organized. The small oven on the kitchen counter was dirty, the microwave had crumbs on the rotating plate. The refrigerator was clean. The dishes did not look clean. Dishes were left in dishwasher (maybe from previous residents) A bottle of dish soap was on the sink, but it was emptied. Laundry room. Dirty clothes were in washer.The washing machine, dryer and laundry closets were dirty.The washing machine makes a lot of noise and moves when spinning.The outside property looks like a junk yard. It could be a beautiful place to enjoy a quiet vacation.The owner needs to take better care of the property.Mary the owner was very nice and friendly.

We're glad the location and check-in went smoothly and that our communication felt friendly. Our apologies for the cleanliness issues you found in the kitchen and laundry room, including the small oven, microwave, and clothes left in the washer — housekeeping is aware and will prioritize these areas. We're also removing the small air fryer from the counter. Regarding the river view, tree growth along the property varies depending on the time of year and rainfall, which can affect visibility from the house.
