About this property

Blue Rock Vacations, Upper

Water front village located in the East End of Roatan behind the reef system.
In keeping with the simplicity of Roatán, Blue Rock Vacations offers vacationers humble and unpretentious accommodations. The house is constructed of native wood with plenty of accommodations. New fenced in courtyard with swimming pool, Tiki hut and recreational area. The main top floor is for our guest, with two bedrooms each with full/double-sized beds, full bathrooms with a shower and closet. Each room has a sliding glass door to the balcony and is separated by the common living area to ensure privacy.
Blue Rock Vacations offers a unique experience in the laid back South Eastern shores of the island, often referred to as the "real Roatán". Our accommodations come with everything you need to make your stay comfortable and pleasing with excitement and adventure just around the cove. Traveling by boat or a short trip by road you will fill your days with adventure, or simply take a day off and enjoy water sports on the premises or lay back in a hammock and read a book or enjoy the view. If you enjoy blue water sailing at its best, our 42ft Ketch docked at the base of the house is available.
Enjoy cocktails on the balcony, the pleasure and economy of cooking your own meals in the fully equipped kitchen, or cooking fresh lobster and shrimp on the barbecue. Your body and soul will slowly wind down as the sun set cast shades of red and purple across the sky, as you prepare for a relaxing evening of conversation, reading, using the entertainment systems, or dozing away in the fresh tropical air.
The common area is an open concept living room with pull out sofa bed and a kitchen with vaulted ceilings and a loft above the kitchen. The loft includes a pull out futon sofa for an additional guest. Each room has a ceiling fan, coupled with the onshore breezes, offers gentle relief from the noonday sun. Other amenities include, fresh linen for bedding, beach towels, shower towels, toiletries and a washing machine for clothes. A safe for personal belongings, 50" flat screen TV,, Bose sound system with Iphone and Ipod docking station, and internet service.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas oven/stove refrigerator/freezer and all the utensils necessary to cook your own meals. Also included is a barbeque for outdoor cooking. This is a 'cook your own meals' establishment. There are two large grocery stores on the island and a few local stores with limited choices within walking distance from the parking lot a short boat ride across the bight
Blue Rock is a water access home only with private parking lot near by. This doesn't mean there are no roads. They are just a few minutes away, accessed by our own 19ft Panga with 50hp engine or call a water taxi. You can walk to "The Hole In The Wall" for food and beverages through our quaint village. enjoy kayaking through the mangrove canal and stop at the blue hole for swimming. Snorkel the reef system or go Scuba diving, Also enjoy other towns, villages and restaurants via the water system safely behind the reef in calm waters.

There is so much to do going on by water, mangrove tours, fishing, snorkeling, sailing, restaurants, Friday afternoon music jam sessions with The Bandito, and so much more. There is a large expat community here and we meet up often at local venues, so you are welcome to join in the fun with us. All the island has to offer is easily accessible.
Your little bit of paradise awaits...

Fun spot off the beaten track ( but not far!)
John and Deb were really nice and accommodating hosts. The house is cute- not fancy but quite comfortable, and right on the water, and exposed to breezes, which keeps the ambient temperature really cool. If its blowing anywhere on Roatan, its blowing here! The house is about 100 yards across the water from a cute restaurant and bar, and there are kayaks you can use as well as getting a ride from John. This area on Roatan is quieter, with fewer hotels etc, but its GREAT if you travel at this speed. One of the best places on the entire island, and really unique in my experience of the Caribbean, are these mangrove tunnels where you can kayak or boat- they open onto this idyllic swimming area- never anyone there- crystal clear blue water- tons of fun! Right beyond that is one of the better drop offs for snorkeling on the south shore at Carib Bight. All of this is directly accessible from the house. Anyway, its a nice place in a cool location with very accommodating hosts. Have fun!

A great place for a getaway vacation!
Staying at Blue Rock Vacations made our “once in a lifetime” trip to Roatan a very special trip to remember. Given the lack of infrastructure in the third world, our primary mode of transportation was by boat. This could have been a challenge that resulted in us staying in the room all week had our hosts John and Deb Malthouse not made themselves and their boat available to us at all times and without complaint. As people who thrive on seeing others have a positive experience on the island, they went out of their way to show us around and introduce us to local restaurants and people that turned out to be treasured memories of our vacation. From kayaking through the mangroves, to an adventurous boat ride around to the other side of the island, to snorkeling in the coral reef. My girlfriend and I enjoyed privacy in our upstairs apartment and were never approached without our invitation. It was, however, an experience of unprecedented hospitality with John and Deb. They spoke to us like old friends and welcomed us into their life for the week. Having worked many hard years prior to retirement, they are down to earth and facinating world travelers who spent many years living on their boat and sailing around the world. There were points where we didn't know what to do, where to go, or how to approach a situation in a place so different from home, but they always guided us through with unwavering confidence and a sound knowledge of the island. If you are interested in experiencing "The Real Roatan" this is the place and these are the people to make it happen.
