Harkers Island Family Vacation
Excellent time spending the week on Harkers Island, watching afternoon sunsets, fishing off our own private pier and visiting the local attractions. We will definitely be revisiting in the future.
The view from the house is highly underrated!! Just a great place to stay for a laid back family vacation!! We definitely will be back hopefully this year and definitely from here on out!! Fishing on the dock and not having to deal with crowds is the best part of Harkers Island!! The house was super clean and had everything we needed for our stay.
Convenient location to get to Cape Lookout visitor center and ferry service to the islands that we wanted to see.
It was easy access to house, quiet neighborhood and pretty sunrises and sunsets.
Our family had a great time. The new pier/dock is large and very nice with numerous rod holders. The location is nice and out of the way, but close to Beaufort and Morehead City. We would definitely recommend this property.
We had an excellent family vacation. The house is located on the water with the deck facing southwest providing incredible views and sunsets. The property has its own private dock with excellent fishing. The location is position in a quiet area that is closely located to Beaufort, Morehead City and Atlantic Beach. There is easy access to the ferry which takes you over to Cape Lookout. The owners are very responsive and helpful. Overall, just an incredible experience for the family.
Awesome place. House and dock were just what we needed for our annual fishing trip. We all agreed this was the best place we've stayed on the island and we've stayed all over it. Alan is great host and we will be going back . Don't hesitate to book this listing !!

Beautiful!
The home was beautiful and well appointed. My family was so comfortable during our stay. The views from the deck and pier were magnificent between the gorgeous sunsets and the frequent dolphin sightings. There was plenty to do even for a family that doesn't fish. Harkers Island is away from the hustle and bustle (which we prefer), but plenty of tourist attractions are available in nearby towns.
This home met all of our needs for a coastal getaway convenient to several sites without being in the middle of an overly built up area. Check in was simple. The house had everything we needed. We made trips into Beaufort, Moorehead City, Emerald Isle to Fort Macon, and on Harkers Island enjoyed walking trails at the NPS Cape Lookout visitor center, exhibits at the Waterfowl Museum, a ferry ride out to Cape Lookout Lighthouse and Shackleford to see the wild horses. We spent an afternoon just haging out on the home's deck enjoying the sunshine, ocean, and seabirds. It was a great stay.
Lovely sunsets, fisherman delight with pier and remote location. Close to Beaufort which is a beautiful destination. Comfy master and layout provides separate living quarters for guests.
Wish we were aware the outdoor lift was not operational as major part of decision of this destination. The instructions for check-in were outdated however a quick call to owners remedied the situation within a minute.

More than expected
Absolutely nothing to complain about, even if I were to nitpick. The house was everything the ad stated and more. The only problem was we had to leave a day early due to an emergency back home. My wife already wants to go back next year.

After Christmas Getaway!
This home will not disappoint! The home is very nice and the view is amazing! It is exactly how described and very well appointed. The dock is great but the fishing not so much this time of the year, which is no reflection on the home. The homeowner was quick to respond to a couple of questions I had. We just wanted to getaway and unwind after the holidays. This was our first visit to Harkers Island and we really enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing your home!
This was the perfect place to decompress and enjoy nearby beach combing, shopping in Beaufort, fishing off the pier for trout, and local seafood. House has a very nice sized kitchen for groups that enjoy home cooked meals...very well stocked with most any cooking or serving pieces you could imagine. This is a very comfortable & beautifully decorated home. I would love to go back during warmer weather and take the kayaks. Even with a couple of days of cold, rainy weather, we had a great time just hanging out here. Highly recommend.
Pros: Views were amazing! Great location
Cons: Definitely not the most comfortable furniture! Couches were terrible! Pillows on beds awful. No where to rinse sand off before entering (side spigot didn’t work and no hose) When paying for cleaning services you should not have to drive to the dump to dispose of trash. Lastly, no book to explain how to run the TV etc or any type of emergency numbers.

Shared from the owner: "James, we're very sorry to hear your time spent at Harkers Island was anything less than perfect! We were very surprised to learn that you did not find our furniture and beds comfortable as this is one of the things we get the most positive reviews on, in addition to cleanliness.
-As for the outdoor faucets, we do turn them off in the winter months so our tenants don’t have to deal with the inconvenience of occasional frozen pipes. Had we been notified, we would have been more than happy to assist in getting them turned on.
-We're sorry if you missed it but, we send every guest an email containing the guest book for their upcoming stay. Your reservation was no exception and our records show the email was delivered on March 12th. The guest book contains detailed information on the home: Instructions on how to operate the TV, phone numbers, trash information, local attractions, restaurants, emergency contacts, and both my and my husband's personal contact information.
I appreciate your feedback. I am always looking for ways to make improvements to ensure our guests enjoy their visit to our vacation home."

Family vacation for holiday weekend
The waterfront location was relaxing. Easy check in and checkout. Safe location for family. The house had basic cleaning but not thorough. Used Coffee in coffee maker, qtips left in bathroom From previous renter, the one bathroom shower was not scrubbed. Layers of soap scum and hair. The washcloth I used turned brown after cleaning. Limited wash clothes for a family. No hand soap in bathroom. Limited household supplies compared to other rental homes. I had to do my own cleaning before I felt comfortable. You have to take the trash with you when you leave to a local dump, but the dump didnt open till 1pm and checkout was at 10am. Very inconvenient and limited space to travel with luggage and to add the trash for the trip home.

Tracy, the homeowner would like to pass along the following message:
“Tracy I hate to hear that you had nothing but a 100% positive experience at Harkers Island! Your comments on cleaning are very surprising to me because most of our reviews have positive comments regarding the cleanliness of the house. I have spoken with the cleaning company to ensure this doesn’t happen again to any other guests. I have also replaced any old linens and added to the supply, so there are plenty, and no guest has to do any laundry on their vacation. Since I don’t live close to the island, it is impossible for me to ensure supplies are stocked, that is why I make the note in the information package I send out. Most guests are compliant and ensure there is stock left when they leave, however, I do not have control of what the guests prior to you left. I appreciate your honest feedback, as this is the only way I can ensure we continue to provide our guests with what they need to have the best vacation possible.”
