Colibrí casita, means hummingbird house. The casita is located in the jungle, in the mountains above Dominical and Hatillo. We are 10-12 minutes from the heart of Dominical. This is a private, gated property which includes our main house, the casita, and our caretaker's house. Every day you can see abundant wildlife all around the property. There are mountain roads for exploring. You can hear the sound of the ocean, though the casita is near, there is no ocean view from the house, just pure jungle. A short distance away is one of the most beautiful beaches in the area, Playa Linda. 4x4 vehicle is necessary for these mountain roads. All wheel or 2 wheel vehicles will not make it up our mountain road to the house.

Peaceful, secluded casita with all the essentials for comfort and relaxation. Located a short but very steep way up a hill between Hatillo and Dominical. The hosts, Ann Marie and Michael, met us and led us up when we arrived. They were very hospitable and friendly and gave us lots of ideas on things to do in the area. We really enjoyed the boat tour on the Sierpe River and a visit to the Nauyaca Falls. We enjoyed the Savegre area and found it much more pleasant than crowded Quepos and Manuel Antonio. Thanks for a great stay!
Amazing property, wonderful facilities at the house & truly a private getaway. Amazing outdoor shower, great kitchen with all the appliances, and the verandah with the hammock was heavenly.
Definitely a worthwhile adventure to get up to the property :)
Make sure to check in before 5:30pm!
Highly Recommended: A Magical Stay at Colibrí Jungle House
I had an excellent stay at the Colibrí Jungle House. The property is managed by incredibly kind and welcoming hosts. They picked me up from the main road and guided me through the “jungle” to the apartment. The vacation home is perfectly nestled among tall trees and palms, offering a true nature escape. The house has many highlights. One of the highlights was the (almost) open-air shower under the palms—a unique and refreshing experience. I also enjoyed pleasant evenings with the hosts, who made my stay even more memorable. And to top it all off, I even spotted toucans during my stay, which was absolutely magical!I highly recommend this vacation home and would gladly return anytime!
Simple, cozy & modern, Casita Colibri will be your own private jungle oasis only 10 minutes from Dominical and beaches. The Casita is super clean, well equipped kitchen and everything you need for your stay, Smart TV and even a bonus outdoor shower!
Wake up and fall asleep to the wonderful sounds of pure nature. We enjoyed breakfast every morning on the porch with our daily hummingbird and Blue Morph butterfly visitors and happily joined our hosts for breathtaking views of the sunset over the ocean to end our evenings.
Ann Marie and Michael are without a doubt the "hostesses with the mostest!" Communication before booking and during our stay was superb. They have vast knowledge of the area and are great guides for local advice. Their hospitality and kindness far outweighed our expectations. Look no further and book your stay with confidence. You will fall in love with this place and the hosts will take good are of you. PLEASE heed the advice of the needed 4x4!
Thank you both for EVERYTHING!
The Casita Colibri is like a breath of fresh air! Clean, bright, beautifully decorated in a classy but minimalist way. It contained everything we could possibly need.
The surrounding gardens are gorgeous and lush and ease into jungle growth. The sights and sounds of the jungle delighted us - and provided ample opportunity for phenomenal photographs! Bring your hiking shoes because there is a beautiful waterfall and creek you can hike down to. We enjoyed our hikes with Raphael as our guide. We were fortunate to watch the stunning sunsets from Ann Marie and Michael’s house up the hill from the casita.
Ann Marie and Michael were the most gracious hosts. Such a delightful, interesting and welcoming couple who made us feel like immediate friends. They provided a wealth of advice and information about the area including the best grocery stores, restaurants and beaches. If we needed any help at all they were immediately responsive.
The casita is not easy to find but Ann Marie met us at the nearby restaurant on the highway and guided us up to our place. You MUST have a reliable 4x4 as indicated in the listing.
We absolutely loved our stay and are already planning a longer visit in the near future. We highly recommend staying at the Casita Colibri!
Ann Marie and Michael were awesome. You couldn't ask for better hosts. It was simply beautiful. We watched the hummingbirds every morning. Out door shower was the best. You are surrounded by jungle in the most comfortable home.
The property is lovely and the hosts are amazing. There were little touches that meant a lot (ice in the ice tray, fresh flowers). Convenient location, the casita was very clean and neat. We enjoyed our stay very much!
Very nice and private jungle setting. Great location. Minutes from the beach. Definitely will stay here again!

Response from VrboOwner on 13 Jan, 2025
My recent guest, Chris, gave me a one star rating which I believe was undeserved and unfair.
Let me explain:
I enjoy hosting my guests in Costa Rica. This is a beautiful, though sometimes challenging
environment. Our recent rainy season in November, especially, was non-stop rain,100% soil
saturation and humidity. It wasn’t particularly warm. Yet, Chris, as per his wife, likes to run the
ac around 60 degrees. Though we ask our guests to conserve electricity by turning off fans and
ac when they are not in the casita, these guests left the ac running for several days, full tilt. I
had to study condensation and dew point to understand what happened when they finally
turned off the ac, and left the casita closed up, for a full day away. Condensation formed on the
ceiling, ran down the walls, and seeped up from the ceramic tile floors. The water stained the
walls. There were puddles on the floor. When they returned that evening, they texted me at
5:30 pm to say they had already booked another accommodation, in another town up the
coast and would be leaving the next day, because everything was wet. Since I live on the
property, I was able to respond immediately. I was shocked to see the condensation
everywhere.
I brought them fresh sheets, as requested.
I mopped and mopped but the condensation kept coming up from the floor. The next morning
as they had announced, they left. My worker and I worked for days drying, scrubbing and
washing walls, ceilings, floors and all bedding and rugs.
Chris thought they should be refunded for the remainder of their reservation. My cancellation
rules are firm and additionally, it took days, and lots of work to make the casita rentable again.
Chris awarded me one star. I believe he was angry and thought he should be refunded his
money for the days he cut short on his reservation. Their excessive use of the ac caused the
problem. They did not adhere to my house rules, nor respect the cancellation rules. They
reserved another place, before even informing me of the problem. They gave me no chance to
address the problem. As I said, Costa Rica, the climate and the terrain, can be challenging. You
can either embrace it or cut and run.
My new star rating now, will not reflect how much I care and embrace all of my guests in this beautiful place.
About the host
Hosted by Ann Marie
Michael and I decided to settle in the southern zone of Costa Rica after a two-year, bucket-list journey around the world. The area around Dominical met all our criteria: green all year long, pleasant temperature, close to the ocean, proximity to the United States, friendly people, and a peaceful lifestyle.
Why they chose this property
Our property is a private and gated paradise. It has both jungle and ocean views. It is a bird watcher's dream with the opportunity to see monkeys, sloths and other creatures daily. The property has a creek and a protected wilderness on one side and lots of room to hike and trek in the jungle. At night, you can hear the sound of the ocean and the running water of the creek.
What makes this property unique
You will have complete privacy if you choose. It’s very secluded, yet safe. It’s a whole, stand alone house with a full kitchen.
