Weekend w/ Grandbaby
Perfect place for a quick visit. Our host Doug was terrific! Hope we have an opportunity to do it again! C. Henderson
Relaxing and homey
Laid back, cozy, felt like home. Cabinets fully stocked. When plows failed to show up, Doug used his snow blower on the long uphill driveway. Our kitties were happy.
Great place better than you can imagine
girls wine and wind down weekend
have stayed here MANY times and it is the best. location. fireplace. hosts. the whole package! thank you!
Couldn't have asked for more!!
We were so impressed with this perfect location, the clean and cozy accommodations and gracious host who went above and beyond for us. Everything was just as pictured, even closer to downtown than we realized, and was the perfect place to kick back in front of the fire when our plans for Story Land got rained out. Our two year old daughter keeps asking if we can go back to "Doug's house", so we can't wait to come back and will not even think twice about staying here next time we head to North Conway. Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend and especially for accommodating Penny on our check-out day, it was so kind of you! :)
About Andrea Swanson
Welcome to the UpCountry Guest House. My brothers and I spent every weekend and vacation at the Upcountry home were we learned to love the outdoors. Our children have followed in our footsteps loving the area and becoming incredible winter athletes. We all love downhill, cross country skiing and ice skating as our favorite winter sports. Their have been 4 generation of skiers in our family who learned at Cranmore Mountain. My brother Doug or I will be your host.
Andrea Swanson purchased this House in 1950
Why Andrea Swanson chose North Conway Village
Welcome to the UpCountry Guest House. This beautiful center hall colonial home and guest house was built at the turn of the century. Our Austrian grandfather bought it in 1950 for our family to gather and to ski at Cranmore Mountain using the Alberg technique brought from Austria by Hannes Schneider in the late 1930's. Our grandparents had been skiing in the area as far back as the mid 1930's at a ski tow in Jackson at the Spruce Mountain Lodge. When Cranmore open in 1936, my grandfather and father where there for the opening day, along with all the other mountains in the area. The guest house has an open concept first floor that includes an updated kitchen, a cozy entertaining area centered around the fireplace and a dining area with beautiful views of the of the property and the Moat Mts. It has a large picture window at the sink that looks onto the fieldstone patio in the back of the property. It is tastefully decorated with antiques and a bit of memorabilia from the area. The upstairs has two bedrooms, a King size bed in one and a Queen in another. The bathroom has a traditional tub/shower combo. The guest house is on the left side of the main house attached by a breezeway. A family member will always be at the property to welcome you and to answer any questions regarding the area and the many amenities.
What makes this House unique
It is a quick few minutes walk to the charming village that has fabulous restaurants and boutique shops. The famous outlets are a few minutes drive south down Route 16. Cranmore is 1/2 a mile away, a great family mountain that provides many types of outdoor activity and entertainment. Wildcat, Attitash and Bretton Woods ski areas are 15-30 minutes north. There are many cross country trails throughout the area, rock and ice climbing, ice skating, snow shoeing, snowmobiling and just about any other outdoor activity you can imagine. The area is a winter wonderland! In the summer, there are several golf courses, lakes and rivers to swim, kayak or canoe. Also, there is the famous Storyland where our family has spent many days throughout the years visiting.
