Modern Lake House (Downstairs)

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,550 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 6 - 7 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathroom, Sleeps 6

You have the entire downstairs of a lake house with a private entrance. Two bedrooms (4 beds: two queens, one full, one twin/daybed) , 1 bath, with a huge game room, kitchen, living room, and washer/dryer in unit, direct access to the lake with a dock. Enjoy 1550 sq ft of private space.

The Space:

The house has it's own private lake access with a dock. The lake is Steel Lake, and they release about 5000 rainbow trouts at the end of April (or when the fishing season starts), so you can fish from the dock during April to October (changes slightly every year please verify, fishing licence required which can be obtained at a sporting store).

Guest Access:

Both the main house and the downstairs have separate private entrance with private patio areas. The backyard is a shared area (between the upstairs and downstairs) as well as the dock and lake access. No loud parties in the backyard as this is a shared area.

Other Things to Note:

Although the house has a dock, no boats or watercrafts are offered due to liability issues. You are welcome to bring your own kayak/blow up boats, etc (no motorized boats allowed on this lake).

I rent out both the mainhouse (VRBO Listing #816174) and downstairs unit. If you have lots of people consider renting both. They are the same size, just different configurations. The mainhouse has lots of lights and tall ceilings with a view of lake, the downstairs has lower ceilings, but direct access to the backyard/lake area. Downstairs unit has extra flight of stairs down to get to the entrance, and those last set of steps are very narrow.

Because of the layout, some of the things are shared between the two units (like the driveway, and the backyard and dock). And also you may hear the noise, footsteps or feel the presence of the people in the other unit. If you need complete silence and privacy, this house may not be for you. Also the house is about 15 min drive away from Seattle Airport, and some flights fly above the Pacific Highway, which is a major local road near by. When you have all the windows closed, you don't hear much airplane noise, but if this is a problem, the house is not for you. Finally, the driveway is pretty steep. If you are not comfortable backing out of an inclined driveway, this house is not for you (I am not the best driver but I just back out onto the side of the road first, and then marge onto the S 304th st, and it's ok). Also the house has lots of Ikea furniture, and if this bothers you the house is not for you... I am trying to disclose everything that people have ever pointed out in the past. My house is not perfect by any means, but at a reasonable price, it does offer a gorgeous setting right on the lake, great kitchen and living/dining area for a big family, and all the photos posted are recent and true. We spend a lot of TLC making this our deam house on the lake and I am very pleased to share it with your family! I live out of state so I am not personally there to talk to you, but all the people involved (cleaners, maintenance staffs) try to do their best so you can have a great stay. So please do not hesitate to let me know if you need anything and we will do whatever we can to improve your experience.

In the backyard and the dock, swim suit or clothing required, even for children. This is a family place and in order for everyone to enjoy the lake please follow the rule. The back yard and the dock is a public domain.

Very nice property. It was centrally located so it met many of my family's needs.

Enjoyed the lake setting immensely. Could have used a few more kitchen tools (flipper for the fry pan, serving bowls) since we ate healthier at the lakehouse. Didn't get to use the dock as much as we wanted. Since the weather was so warm, it would have been helpful to have a couple of box fans to move air around. The supplies of soaps, detergents and the availability of the dishwasher and the washer/dryer made everything so convenient.

We recommend highly the Point Defiance Zoo and Dash Point State Park (hiking and a wonderful beach for wading, beachcombing, and picnicking). Thanks so much, Erika.

Home away from home

My family had a wonderful stay here, there was plenty of space for everyone and we enjoyed the space to play board games and cook together. The kitchen had everything you need. The silverware was tricky to find but its there. The lake is beautiful and we saw turtles and ducks, my only complaint about the lake is it's a bit over grown off dock compared to neighbors and full of weeds, we weren't comfortable swimming off it. The views off the dock are simply amazing. There is no air conditioning here and the only fan in bedroom was missing a piece and noisy. I like to stay cool at night, so that was a bummer. Whoever was before us must have dumped all the game pieces in game box. Hundreds of cards just laying there, but we fixed it and moved on. We bought a fire pit and put on the sidewalk and made S'mores and that was super fun. There were bats that fly around the lake at night but didn't bother us. Our neighbors upstairs were amazing. Super friendly and didn't bother us at all. There is a security system there so we always felt safe. The unit had laundry soap, dish soap, shampoo, towels, and best of all coffee. We brought creamer but that was a great bonus. We made ourselves at home here and would and will absolutely stay again. Hopefully by next visit the dock area is clean and fans are available for house.

Great location and outdoor space

The lake front is amazing, central location, all of the necessary housewares are provided. Honestly the downstairs apartment isn't exactly charming... low ceilings, minimal decor, less than ideal lighting, noisey from upstairs guests. Also, the temperature is set and not adjustable during your stay. I'd recommend trying the upstairs unit instead.

Nice place to stay

  • 4 of 5

The lower lake house was as described. It was clean and comfortable, and for the most part it was a pleasant stay. The kitchen could use a few more items, like a spaghetti strainer, but we made due. I think there should be a better picture and description of the stairs that you use to get to the unit. They are very narrow and caused my 80 year old mother some trouble. Overall, Happy with it.

all you could wish for

we spent our vacation there as a family with a 12-year-old and an adult son. We were totally happy with the appartement and esp. its beautiful setting. We enjoyed the swimming in the warm lake and had to take some time each day to convince the boys to leave the house at all. All important stuff was there, even coffee...The washing maschine and dryer were a big plus too. So after 15 days we returned home and just had to put the clothes back in the closet.(And for Europeans the time it took to do its deeds was incredible fast. At home the washing maschine needs 2:30 hours compared to 15 minutes in US -I really do envy you!) So all in all we can totally recommend your accomodation!! And we will try to get back some day :-)
