About Mark Howard
Aloha - Thank you for viewing one of our property listings on VRBO.com - My name is Mark Howard, and I am the Principal Broker, President and Property Manager for Hawaii Americana Realty, headquartered in Waikiki. Originally from New Zealand I have made Waikiki my home because of the sun, surf and sand. Hopefully you will have the opportunity to stay in one of our vacation properties sometime soon. Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have, and Aloha!
Why Mark Howard chose Diamond Head - Kapahulu - St. Louis
The reason we purchased our condos in this building had to do with the location. It is perfectly situated at the edge of Waikiki in Kapiolani Park. Located on Waikiki's famous Gold Coast, the condo building sits on the water with ocean on one side and park on the other. We like the location because although Waikiki and all the hustle and bustle are just a 10-15 minute walk from the condo (along the park and several of Waikiki's best beaches), we are just far enough away for it to feel less hectic, more like a residential neighborhood.
What makes this Condo unique
Due to the nature of our building being only 1 condo wide, you can open up windows on each side of the condo and enjoy Hawaii's famous trade breezes nearly year-round.

Basic rental in good location
Nicely located near but not in Waikiki, the apartment is small and in need of a serious upgrade --furniture is shabby, mattress is comfy but too big for its platform, water damage on the bathroom ceiling, threadbare floor mats/carpeting, paint-damaged wood floors,1960's style noisy in-window AC units etc. The "ocean view" is exactly as shown - through surrounding hi rise buildings and directly over the roof of a low-rise building that is illuminated most of the night-- and there is no balcony for the unit. Downstairs there is access to a shared lanai and narrow seawall, but no direct beach access. The building has no real amenities (pay laundry!) and I rarely saw anyone present at the lobby management desk. I would say best use of this place is for a couple or individual who plan to be out and about all day and cook at home every meal, as the kitchen is well equipped and the location is good for walking into Waikiki, hiking Diamond Head and driving out of town. If you are looking for a place to chill, read, daydream and lose yourself in the sound/smell/ feeling of the ocean during the day, this space is not for you. I love Hawaii and have had lots of great visits to the islands, but this isn't an accommodation I'd return to. A hotel room in the same price range would probably have been a smarter move.
I also note that the guest experience was simply not up to the usual great experience I've come to expect from my other stays in VRBOs around the world. Maybe it's because this one is run by a mgmt company rather than an actual owner. The company's "guest host" met me on the street (after a 15 minute wait outside the locked gate, even though I followed the instructions to call when I landed and when I was halfway there), let me in and handed me a welcome notebook. He was perfectly pleasant, but anxious to get finished and hit the road, so when i called the property mgr Mark to ask some follow-up questions (after my very long travel day, I needed to clarify a couple of things that I had missed during the whirlwind intro), he made it abundantly clear that he was annoyed that I called him, and that I was interrupting his busy evening. Maybe he was having a bad night, but that was my only contact with him or anyone else at the property during my week-long stay.
Great location for exploring the island
We were spoilt and given 701, two bedrooms with a wonderful wrap-around lanai overlooking the ocean. Ideal for morning coffees and evening drinks. The location within walking distance of the beaches is also great for exploring the island. We were happy to have paid extra for onsite parking. The kitchen was fully stocked and we prepared some meals there. The unit was clean and comfortable if a little dated. We had a wonderful time exploring Oahu from here, thank you Mark.
Mahalo for being such fantastic guests, Olivia -- You are always welcome back -- ALOHA!
A great Honolulu find!
We stayed here from 10/31/17 till 11/5/17 and had a wonderful time. The condo is neat, clean and has everything you could possibly need. The location was perfect for us...with easy access to Diamond Head, beaches, snorkeling and the north shore. It’s also within walking distance of restaurants and Waikiki. The President’s visit cut short our time downtown because of the required highway closures.
The washer and dryer are coin operated in the parking garage...oh yea, pay for the parking spot, it’s worth it!
My only negative comment is that the decor could use a little updating but really...we were only in the condo to sleep and for breakfast!
Thank you Mark...you guys were great too!

Great Location Great View- Exactly as described
10th floor overlooking Waikiki with view of mountains as well. Walking distance to all Waikiki locations and very short drive to Diamond Head. Place was clean and well stocked. Having a parking spot was a major advantage. We loved it!

Aloha Marcus, Thank you for your review -- Happy to hear you had a Wonderful Vacation and enjoyed the beautiful Views of Diamond Head Beach Hotel. You were great guests and are always welcome back -- MAHALO!
Great location, comfortable, well-equipped
The location of this condo can't be beat. Quiet area near to Diamond Head that is walking distance to the beaches, shopping and restaurants in Waikiki. The condo was comfortable and it was very nice to have a full kitchen in the unit. We did have an issue with the bed but the owner/hotel management were very responsive and quickly dealt with the situation. We really liked the waterfront area in front of the hotel with lounge chairs and access to the ocean!
Mahalo for your review, Kimiko -- The property is, indeed, centrally located to everything you could want or need access to in Waikiki and we are happy to hear that you reaped the benefits of this during your stay :-) You are always welcome back, and hopefully you get to enjoy a longer visit the next time you're in Hawaii. Aloha - The Hawaii Americana Realty Team
The neighborhood is located at the base of Diamond Head, near the Waikiki Aquarium, across from Kapiolani Park, on the beautiful Pacific Ocean, and within walking distance of Waikiki and its attractions. Just beyond Waikiki at the base of Diamond Head is Honolulu’s “Gold Coast.” The Gold Coast is the last strip of buildings at the end of Kalakaua Ave. across from Kapiolani Park. Unlike the “hustle and bustle” of Waikiki, the Gold Coast is a little more quiet.Right out the front doors of these buildings offer great swimming, diving, and surfing breaks such as Tongg’s, Rice Bowls, Old Man’s, and several others. You’ve also got Kapiolani Park on the Mauka (mountain side) as I mentioned, which is a great spot for outdoor activities and the finish line for the Honolulu Marathon, the Tinman Triathlon, etc. Also the Diamond Head Beach Hotel is less than 2 buildings away from Private Clubs such as the Elk’s Club and the Outrigger Canoe Club.
