Next time we'll stay longer!!
Great place for a couple's getaway
My wife and I found Kent's property amazingly perfect for the two of us. While the property is on top of a garage, you'd never know it because you won't hear a thing and once inside it's beautiful. The entire layout of it was very homely and well thought out with design/decoration. While the incline down to the dock is steep initially, my wife and I made it without issue. However, we are in are early 30s and the incline would be much more difficult for older couples. Most importantly was Kent's hospitality and willingness to be of any help if necessary. He took us down to the dock on his gator and told us to call when we wanted to be picked up. Having an owner that lives on site is much more of a plus than it is a negative. We had a great view of the lake and while Kent's house is right next door, it had zero negative impact on our view, comfort, and overall stay. We will likely contact Kent somewhere down the line to rebook with him because, frankly, I can't imagine staying at a better kept and maintained place while having access to a large dock for boating/kayaking/swimming. As a last point, the location is unbeatable. You're on the far west side of the lake which puts your right by Pigeon Forge (10 minutes) and in turn Gatlinberg (25 minutes). We didn't plan on going to either of these but once we realized exactly how close we were, it was a no brainer. The only mistake we made was not renting a boat.
Beautiful cabin & views
My girlfriend and I stayed at this cabin for a three-day weekend and we both really loved it. Though there are a few things I will note for people considering staying here.
First, let me say that the cabin itself is beautiful. It's decorated well, it's super comfortable and it has almost everything you need (it's a K-cup machine, coffee drinkers, so keep that in mind. And you need to bring your own can opener cause the one there is iffy). The view on the balcony looks out over the lake in multiple directions and offers a perfect spot to have a coffee in the morning or dinner at night. Everything about the cabin itself was great.
The last review noted that there was a lack of privacy, and that concerned me before I arrived. But when we got there we realized it wasn't bad. While the main house is located right next door, Kent made sure that we never had any privacy issues when we were there - even choosing to stay evenings at his other property down the road as to not disturb us if we wanted to sit on the balcony. He didn't have to do that, and I appreciate the gesture.
My one main concern is that the walk down to the lake is very steep, and for people who aren't in the best of shape (me), getting back up the hill after walking down to the floating dock was a real challenge. Though Kent did offer to give us a ride - my car wouldn't make it safely up or down the gravel road. If you plan on spending a lot of time down at the water, you need to either be in better shape than me or have a vehicle you feel comfortable driving down a gravel mountain in. Otherwise, you can drive down the paved main road another few seconds and walk down to the boat access, which is a much easier walk but just not as convenient as walking from your cabin.
Otherwise, my only other gripe was that I wasn't able to catch a fish - which obviously isn't the property owner's fault. I was just unlucky. Plenty of fish hitting on the surface, but just not for me. Most people were fishing in boats on the other side of the lake where it was rockier. The gas station a few miles away (The Dam Store) sells lures and minnows and things like that.
Also, we saw a bald eagle fly right over us on the floating dock, so that was cool. Keep an eye out.
Pigeon Forge is a short drive away, and Gatlinburg, too. If you want a nice place to stay with a pretty view and some peace and quiet, this is a good option.
Beautiful views but no privacy
The property was somewhat disappointing because it is not private at all. This "cabin" is a garage attic converted into a nice place to say. However, the main house is literally across a one lane driveway. While sitting on the balcony having dinner or watching the sunrise (which is a beautiful sight coming over the mountains across the reservoir) we were also looking right at the owners home. Even the photographs from the balcony avoided showing that the main house is 30 feet away or less. The trek down to the lake was very treacherous. Making my way down the very steep gravel path to the lake with empty hands was quite the feat (there is a sign posted stating to use the path at your own risk). I certainly was not comfortable trying my luck with a fishing pole. Also, the listing mentioned having a paddle boat for visitors to use. I did not see a paddle boat. However, I did not take the stairs down to the dock at the bottom of the gravel path-it may have been down there, but I cannot say for sure. Overall, the inside of the cabin was well maintained, clean, and well decorated. Prior to our arrival, Kent was very responsive and helpful with any questions I had regarding booking and checking in.
I can't begin to tell you how great of time we had staying at this "piece of heaven in the mountains". We can't wait to go back with our family. The owners responded immediately to any inquiries we had. Such a spectacular view from our balcony. Loved loved loved it!!
Very nice. New, clean, decorated beautifully.
A wonderful get away! Kent was very friendly and helpful. Appreciated his hospitality greatly. The views were amazing. So peaceful sitting on the deck looking out at the lake. Our only wish was that we had more time to spend at the prosperity. With so many great things to do in the area we were off and running most of the weekend. We may have to come back just to enjoy the property and the lake! Lake access was a little difficult with the steep hill, but if we would have had time Kent offered to even drive us down by the lake! I would highly recommend this location.
