This holiday home was renovated in 2017/18. We plan to develop the property and grounds further over time but are thrilled with our "home from home." It offers privacy, peace and tranquility, beautiful scenery, greenery and is situated in an area with plenty of sunshine and good weather for the swimming pool to be enjoyed. The historical town of Duras is within 10 minutes drive from the house and the beautiful city of Bergerac is a 30 minute drive away.
The house itself has an open plan layout, the high ceilings give a great sense of space and the design of the house allows the living areas to remain cool in warm weather.
The kitchen/diner is fully equipped.
Several sets of french doors allow easy access to the alfresco dining area and patio/poolside. The swimming pool is fenced with a security gate. There are sun-loungers stored in the garage for guests to use.
There are pool inflatables; a cricket set; rounders set; badmington set; boules set; footballs; swingball; darts board; various toys; colouring sets and some board games; either kept in the garage or in the house.
A travel cot with mattress and bedding are available for use as well as a portable "high chair" that can be strapped to any dining room or outdoor dining chair as well as a traditional high chair.
There are reading books, DVDs and a DVD player in the house. We have connected the television to a UK Sky box for freeview/basic Sky TV . There is WIFI for viewing programmes online.
All parts of the property are open to guests except for the garage outbuilding and some storage cupboards in the pool house/shed which are locked.
The historical town of Duras has a beautiful Chateau that is worth a visit. There is a Thursday night market during the summer months, and pleasant cafes and restaurants in the town. Nearby towns and cities such as St Foy La Grande, Pinheuil, Bergerac, Marmande all have distinctive attractions of their own. There is a parc for children in Pinheuil, a "country park" type play area close to the canal in Marmande, and a park close to the river in St Foy La Grande. An indoor soft play area en route to Bergerac is also very popular.
Numerous local vineyards mean that there is a vast choice of wine tasting venues to visit, from the larger Cave de Berticot in Duras to more local establishments in close proximity to Saint Astier.
The village of Saint Astier has several British residents, our neighbours on both sides are local French families. The village is tranquil and quiet and the grounds around the house are spacious and green, there are fruitful vineyards and sunflowers in view in their seasons.
There are supermarkets conveniently located in Duras and Pinheuil, with smaller corner shops (Tabac/Boulangerie/post office/café-restaurant) in neighbouring villages e.g. Villeneuve de Duras, St Sernin, Loubes-Bernac.
Tennis courts may be hired from the Tennis club at St Sernin at a more affordable weekly rate rather than by paying per time.
