We purchased the property in 2016 with the help of the previous owners who'd owned it for 40 years! Dave and I are both in Housing: Construction and Sales. With both of us self-employed in the housing industry we lost about everything (except each other!) in the crash. After business losses, bankruptcy, IRS audit, short sale and deaths in the family, we moved to Prescott, nearly on a whim. We rented from another couple we just met who believed in us and loaned us the down payment for this parcel of land. We started thinking about the possibilities of such a cute property and did a little work on the Log Cabin but tried to keep it mostly intact, even with its funky fixes by other owners and tenants. We renovated the Cottage down the lane in a big way (#883663), opening the floor plan and adding a garden.
The Log Cabin appears to have been owned (and possibly built) by a man who was a piano tuner and salesman. His wife worked as a bookkeeper for an attorney. They had one daughter who eventually taught dance in Los Angeles but returned to Prescott to care for her father in his last days and bury him in the local cemetery next to his wife (researched at Sharlot Hall Museum).
Thank you for choosing us. Let us know how we can make the property and your experience even better. We started this as our primary business after suffering many losses. We want a successful business and happy, satisfied guests! Blessings to you!
Karen and Dave

Why they chose this property

We really liked the location near the Fairgrounds and Downtown (but not too close) and the seasonal creek. With all the large elms, locusts and cottonwoods, we knew we wanted to preserve and improve upon this little park-like setting. The owners were thrilled with our vision and were finally able to part with it, knowing we would be good stewards to the land and the creek which adds to the water supply in Prescott

What makes this property unique

The Cottage was darling yet we knew we wanted to make some renovations to open the floor plan, allow more light and put hardwoods down throughout. Dave's been a contractor all his life so we went to work. The house is from the 40's (at least) so there was lots to do. Dave opened the kitchen to the dining room and created a bar. We took down a wall for an easier access to the bathroom. We just, in 2025, re-remodeled the bathroom again, putting in a new shower, toilet, vanity, sink and flooring.
The opening from the dining room to the living room was made and new sliding glass doors replaced a window, opening the whole house to the new patio, garden and meadow! Dave built an arbor and for a chardonnay and a muscat grape vine! I landscaped for a garden of rose bushes, fruit trees, shrubs and flowers. We discovered the javelina loved it too, so we installed a white picket fence to keep the little devils out! 🐗
After Carpets were ripped out, ceilings lifted, lighting, plumbing, painting, and lots of things you can't imagine we started making it homey, a little Western and a little midi-century modern. We had fun furnishing the Cottage and meeting people from auctions, antique stores, yard sales and estate sales. It's so wonderful to see so many works of art, antiques and collectibles and remember the people and stories that go with them. How heart-warming and magical it is to repurpose someone else's beloved or handmade items!
We've enjoyed a cocktail and glass of wine on the deck once or twice and I've often thought I could move in! I love the openness, the quiet, the cleanliness and the birds and butterflies.
