About Dave Rueb and Karen Hunt
We purchased the property in 2016 with the help of the previous owners who'd owned it for 40 years! Dave and I are both in Housing: Construction and Sales. With both of us self-employed in the housing industry we lost about everything (except each other!) in the crash. After business losses, bankruptcy, IRS audit, short sale and deaths in the family, we moved to Prescott, nearly on a whim. We rented from another couple we just met who believed in us and loaned us the down payment for this parcel of land. We started thinking about the possibilities of such a cute property and did a little work on the Log Cabin but tried to keep it mostly intact, even with its funky fixes by other owners and tenants. We renovated the Cottage down the lane in a big way (#883663), opening the floor plan and adding a garden. The Log Cabin appears to have been owned (and possibly built) by a man who was a piano tuner and salesman. His wife worked as a bookkeeper for an attorney. They had one daughter who eventually taught dance in Los Angeles but returned to Prescott to care for her father in his last days and bury him in the local cemetery next to his wife (researched at Sharlot Hall Museum). Thank you for choosing us. Let us know how we can make the property and your experience even better. We started this as our primary business after suffering many losses. We want a successful business and happy, satisfied guests! Blessings to you! Karen and Dave

Why Dave Rueb and Karen Hunt chose Prescott
We really liked the location near the Fairgrounds and Downtown (but not too close) and the seasonal creek. With all the large elms, locusts and cottonwoods, we knew we wanted to preserve and improve upon this little park-like setting. The owners were thrilled with our vision and were finally able to part with it, knowing we would be good stewards to the land and the creek which adds to the water supply in Prescott
What makes this House unique
The Cottage was darling yet we knew we wanted to make some renovations to open the floor plan, allow more light and put hardwoods down throughout. Dave's been a contractor all his life so we went to work. The house is from the 40's (at least) so there was lots to do. Dave opened the kitchen to the dining room, the dining room to the living room and new sliders replaced a window, opening the whole house to the meadow. Dave added a deck and arbor and I landscaped for a garden of fruit trees, shrubs and flowers. We discovered the javelina loved it too and we installed a white picket fence to keep the little devils out! After Carpets were ripped out, ceilings lifted, lighting, plumbing, painting, and lots you can't imagine we started making it homey. We had fun furnishing the Cottage and meeting people from auctions, antique stores, yard sales, thrift stores and estate sales. It's so wonderful to see so many works of art, antiques and collectibles and remember the people and stories that go with them. How heart-warming and magical it is to repurpose someone else's beloved or handmade items! We still haven't even spent the night here but would love too! We've enjoyed a cocktail and glass of wine on the deck once or twice and I've often thought I could move in! I love the openness, the quiet, the cleanliness and the birds and butterflies.

great place to stay
This cottage is bright, clean and an overall great place to stay! The owners, Dave and Karen, go above and beyond by greeting everyone who stays there. If there are any questions or concerns, Dave is there in 5 minutes to help! I would definitely recommend this cute cottage and will be staying there again!
Lovely cottage and property
Thank you so much, Dave and Karen, for your hospitality.
This cottage was so nice. It was the perfect size for our family of four and our small dog. Perfectly equipped kitchen and super-comfy beds.
A creek flows right through the property! Our boys loved it.
Thanks so much! We hope to be back soon!
Prescott Visit Cut Short
Our stay at the Hideaway in Prescott was wonderful; the cottage was comfortable and the town was great; our stay was cut short due to the coronavirus and we only got two weeks of our month. Hopefully, we can return another time.
An exceptional vacation home
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely house with its large garden. The house offers an exceptionally well-equipped kitchen - which we much appreciated since we enjoy home cooking - as well as many very thoughtful touches, such as orthopedic pillows, cozy throws on the armchairs (we were there in winter), and books, games, and DVDs. We also never tired of watching the birds on the many bird feeders, and our granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed the garden and the stream that runs through it. It was truly one of the most enjoyable vacation homes we have rented!
The Hobbit House!
A little to expensive with all the fees, but this is a problem across the board with Vrbo and Airbnb rentals.
Prescott Hideaway is located along a seasonal creek amidst a meadow, tall cottonwood trees and Siberian Elms. The Pines and forest are at a little higher elevation about 1.5 miles away.
We are just a couple minutes’ drive (1.7 miles) from downtown, Whiskey Row and all the events at the Courthouse.
Since the property sits back on an acre and a quarter you will feel secluded even though there is the convenience of stores and restaurants nearby. The Rodeo Fairgrounds are just a half block away and there are often horse events, calf-roping tournaments, dog herding trials and barrel racing competitions!
The Rustic Pie Co. is .03 miles away, about a block and a half. It is amazing but be forewarned: Their new hours are that they are closed Sunday and Monday so you weekenders must get in there on Saturday to get your goodies! They offer homemade pies from whatever is in season, cinnamon rolls, cookies, homemade soups, chilies and delicious pot pies. I always get a whole berry, rhubarb or pecan (for Dave) pie! They will also divide one up for you if you want half a fruit and half a cream pie. Sooooo goood. Tell Nishon and Kim that Karen and Dave sent you from the Prescott Hideaway!
The Courthouse and Whiskey Row are just a few minutes’ drive away, so you can enjoy the events but be away from the noise and bustle when you want to relax.
Thumb Butte is the other direction (left out the driveway, straight through the intersection and right on Gurley St.) and just a few minutes’ drive away if you want to have a picnic or go for a hike.
We have a Fry's grocery 2 blocks away (0.3 miles) with a pharmacy and Starbucks. There is also (out Gail Gardner to the right and Iron Springs Rd.) shopping, Waffles N' More, Dry Gulch Steakhouse, Iron Springs Cafe, Esoji (Japanese), Whole Foods, True Value and Joann Fabrics.
You'll have privacy in your location and the convenience of shopping, post office, banks and the hospital nearby if you want or need them.
Let us know what you are interested in and we can steer you in the right direction!
