The Hayden House is just outside of Austin/Cedar Park and about 40 min from downtown Austin. This charming 1400 sq foot home sits on 3 private acres, with a beautiful 14' x 50' covered porch with swing to enjoy the view and wildlife in the front yard. Very secluded, yet very close, you will feel like you are in the country, yet you are only 10 min from Cedar Park and less than three miles from the Sandy Creek arm of Lake Travis. The main road going to the property is a favorite of motorcyclists that want to enjoy a beautiful, winding Hill Country drive. The final approach to the home is a half mile gravel road (motorcycles and small cars can make it down, just slowly). The property sits in a small valley (Fisher Hollow), which is surrounded by wildlife preserves (Travis Audubon's Baker sanctuary, and Balcones Canyonlands Preserve). Turkey, deer, fox, coyotes are all common in the front yard. We host an annual birding event on the property and have identified over 40 species of birds during Spring migration (see list at end); the endangered Golden Cheek Warbler nests on the property and is frequently heard singing in the springtime, and has been sighted in the front yard the past three years. This property is perfect for an individual, couple, or small family who want to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the country, without having to be too far from civilization.
Opportunities abound for outdoor recreation--water sports on Lake Travis, golfing, hiking, a day trip to Enchanted Rock-- but there is plenty of enjoyment to be had by simply reveling in the peacefulness and solitude of this Hill Country gem.
If you want to visit Cedar Park or the northwest Austin area or hill country for birding, lake recreation or just want peace and quiet, this sweet little house may be perfect for you!
MotoGP/COTA attendees-- we are a bit of a drive (40 miles) from COTA, but after all the noise and heat of a day at the track, our little slice of heaven may be just what you need. The property owners are avid MotoGP fans, the drive out here is beautiful on a bike, and the owner can tell you about (or ride with you!) on some beautiful hill country rides. Worth the distance!
ACL or SXSW attendees-- this home may be more of a drive in/out of South Austin than you want every day, if you are wanting to hang out and enjoy the Austin nightlife every night. If we were attending ACL, we would personally look for someplace IN Austin. However, if you don't mind the 40 minute (if traffic is moving) drive out here, and want some quiet at the end of long ACL day-- we would be happy to be your hosts!
NOTE: We have several beehives on our property; two of them are on the far side of the front yard of the Hayden House. While no guests have ever been stung by our bees (so far), individuals with severe, life-threatening allergy to bee stings may not want to stay here.
Sleeping: The master has a queen and the second bedroom has two full beds.
4-6 people could be comfortable in this house, (limiting factor is only one shower).
Bathrooms: One Jack-and-Jill between the bedrooms (two sink areas; one shower/tub and toilet). Second 1/2 bathroom (toilet and sink only).
TV/Internet: There is one TV in the living room with a large DVD collection. Netflix is available. We do NOT have network TV or cable. There is decent internet service but it is not ultra-high speed-- there is no google fiber out here. (Works fine for streaming movies.)
Phone: The home does not have a land line. Your own cell phone will be your service. The home has a Yagi antenna to boost the indoor signal.
Washer/dryer: Yes, and detergent/dryers sheets provided.
Kitchen: Full size with island, all appliances, gas stove, oven, microwave, full size fridge, dishwasher, coffee maker, utensils and serving ware, paper goods. Outdoor gas grill on front porch.
Privacy/security: The Hayden House is on a 3-acre tract with no other homes, but the property owner lives just across the dirt road so is nearby if you have any needs or concerns. There are several other families that live in Fisher Hollow, each on their own section of land-- you will not see any other homes from your front porch, but you may pass neighbors occasionally on the road.
