Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom 2 Bath On 3 Acres With Huge Front Porch, Rare Birds, Near Lake Travis

The Hayden House is just outside of Austin/Cedar Park and about 40 min from downtown Austin. This charming 1400 sq foot home sits on 3 private acres, with a beautiful 14' x 50' covered porch with swing to enjoy the view and wildlife in the front yard. Very secluded, yet very close, you will feel like you are in the country, yet you are only 10 min from Cedar Park and less than three miles from the Sandy Creek arm of Lake Travis. The main road going to the property is a favorite of motorcyclists that want to enjoy a beautiful, winding Hill Country drive. The final approach to the home is a half mile gravel road (motorcycles and small cars can make it down, just slowly). The property sits in a small valley (Fisher Hollow), which is surrounded by wildlife preserves (Travis Audubon's Baker sanctuary, and Balcones Canyonlands Preserve). Turkey, deer, fox, coyotes are all common in the front yard. We host an annual birding event on the property and have identified over 40 species of birds during Spring migration (see list at end); the endangered Golden Cheek Warbler nests on the property and is frequently heard singing in the springtime, and has been sighted in the front yard the past three years. This property is perfect for an individual, couple, or small family who want to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the country, without having to be too far from civilization.

Opportunities abound for outdoor recreation--water sports on Lake Travis, golfing, hiking, a day trip to Enchanted Rock-- but there is plenty of enjoyment to be had by simply reveling in the peacefulness and solitude of this Hill Country gem.

If you want to visit Cedar Park or the northwest Austin area or hill country for birding, lake recreation or just want peace and quiet, this sweet little house may be perfect for you!

MotoGP/COTA attendees-- we are a bit of a drive (40 miles) from COTA, but after all the noise and heat of a day at the track, our little slice of heaven may be just what you need. The property owners are avid MotoGP fans, the drive out here is beautiful on a bike, and the owner can tell you about (or ride with you!) on some beautiful hill country rides. Worth the distance!

ACL or SXSW attendees-- this home may be more of a drive in/out of South Austin than you want every day, if you are wanting to hang out and enjoy the Austin nightlife every night. If we were attending ACL, we would personally look for someplace IN Austin. However, if you don't mind the 40 minute (if traffic is moving) drive out here, and want some quiet at the end of long ACL day-- we would be happy to be your hosts!

NOTE: We have several beehives on our property; two of them are on the far side of the front yard of the Hayden House. While no guests have ever been stung by our bees (so far), individuals with severe, life-threatening allergy to bee stings may not want to stay here.

Sleeping: The master has a queen and the second bedroom has two full beds.

4-6 people could be comfortable in this house, (limiting factor is only one shower).

Bathrooms: One Jack-and-Jill between the bedrooms (two sink areas; one shower/tub and toilet). Second 1/2 bathroom (toilet and sink only).

TV/Internet: There is one TV in the living room with a large DVD collection. Netflix is available. We do NOT have network TV or cable. There is decent internet service but it is not ultra-high speed-- there is no google fiber out here. (Works fine for streaming movies.)

Phone: The home does not have a land line. Your own cell phone will be your service. The home has a Yagi antenna to boost the indoor signal.

Washer/dryer: Yes, and detergent/dryers sheets provided.

Kitchen: Full size with island, all appliances, gas stove, oven, microwave, full size fridge, dishwasher, coffee maker, utensils and serving ware, paper goods. Outdoor gas grill on front porch.

Privacy/security: The Hayden House is on a 3-acre tract with no other homes, but the property owner lives just across the dirt road so is nearby if you have any needs or concerns. There are several other families that live in Fisher Hollow, each on their own section of land-- you will not see any other homes from your front porch, but you may pass neighbors occasionally on the road.

About Harry Leuzinger

We purchased our land (12.6 acres total) in 1999, and build the primary residence in 2002. We built the Hayden House (named after the daughter of our first tenants) in 2010 and have enjoyed having both long-term and short-term renters and guests. There is nothing we enjoy more than sharing our little slice of Hill Country Heaven with others!

We have lived in the the Austin/Cedar Park area since 1992. We have two children (one grown, one still in college), and two beautiful granddaughters.

Harry Leuzinger purchased this house in 1999

Why Harry Leuzinger chose Cedar Park

Harry is a native Texan, has lived in the Austin area since he was 16, and has always loved the rugged beauty of the Hill Country. Celeste is an Army brat, moved around her whole life, and wanted to have land and a "very solid", permanent-feeling house when it came time to build our own home. We both fell in love with this property the first time we walked down the road (after having dinner with friends that live in the Hollow), and have enjoyed every aspect of living here!

What makes this house unique

The really cool thing about our property is how remote and rural it feels, yet how close it is to all the amenities of civilization. We are only 10 minutes from the main center of Cedar Park, 15 minutes from Lakeline Mall, and 35-40 minutes from downtown Austin. And yet, when we sit on our porch to watch the sunset, we don't see anything but hills, trees, and sky, and can enjoy the sounds of the wind and birds. At night, we are far enough from the city to have a beautiful display of stars. Heavenly!

A little slice of Heaven...

  • 5 of 5

The pictures simply do not do this property justice. Incredibly clean, spacious, beautifully decorated, amazing art work, comfortable beds, and the amenities were above and beyond.

We were welcomed with fresh flowers in the kitchen and master bedroom, as well as our favorite coffee!

We enjoyed our guests in the mornings, the turkeys, and it was great to see the honey bees are protected there as well.

Harry was the most gracious of hosts, we all hated to leave.

We will absolutely be back, time and time again.

Thank you again, Harry, for an amazing experience in your beautiful home!

P.S. the movie selection is awesome!!!!

Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay - so peaceful and quiet! We were able to open the back doors and enjoy the breeze and sunset while cooking dinner. Pictures do not do this place justice and you could not ask for a nicer host!! Spring and fall would be the better seasons to visit, summer may be a bit uncomfortable on the beautiful porch. We hope to make it back next year!

Thanks Harry for opening your retreat to us, it was wonderful!

AMAZING house, location and hosts! We really lucked out in finding this place!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with Harry and Celeste for over a month in this house while ours was being built. The home is located on part of their property which is in a peaceful and beautiful location just west of Cedar Park and close to Lake Travis. The house is impeccable and so nicely done, and the walking trails in the area are beautiful. On top of that Harry and Celeste were incredible hosts, very responsive and helpful with whatever we needed.

We had three young kids and it was a great family experience to "get away from it all" but actually not be that far away from Cedar Park and Austin. Our kids loved being on the property and a highlight for them was certainly the host Golden Retriever named "Austin."

We had several friends visit this house and all had the same comment of how they wanted to rent the place sometime!

Our Best VRBO Experience Yet

  • 5 of 5

We cannot say enough great things about our stay at what we dubbed "The Ranch"". The place is perfectly isolated from the city, yet just a 5 minute drive from anything we need. It is a great place for kids too.

Harry and Celeste are the best hosts we have ever had. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only thing that would have made it better would be if we could have stayed longer. When we come back this way we will definitely choose to stay here again if you'll have us. Thanks so much for making our trip one to remember.
