You will have security and unobstructed 225 degree panoramic views from Mexico to the North Coast. This custom, single story home encompasses over 4,300 square feet of comfort with 5 bedrooms, 5 ½ bathrooms, a bonus room/office (can be used as a private 6th bedroom), and views from every room.
Truly a unique property with so much to do! Relax in the private courtyard while playing croquet, lounge in a hammock next to the newly remodeled pool, roast s’mores around the outdoor fire pit, or challenge a rival to a game of foosball while watching the sunset.

This is not a party house. Our home is tucked away in a quiet residential area, and is not suitable for parties, large gatherings or loud outdoor music. We kindly ask that you do not exceed the maximum guest occupancy, and respect our home and neighbors by adhering to designated quiet times (10:00pm – 8:00am).
* There is a pool heating fee if you elect to heat pool. Pool heating rates are subject to change.
November – March: $125 for the first day (the day you check-in), and $65 per day (or partial day).
April – October: $90 for the first day (the day you check-in), and $45 per day (or partial day) thereafter.
Rates are subject to change until your reservation is confirmed and we receive full payment.
We have five chickens that reside on the property. During the day, we normally allow them to free range in fenced coral and at night we keep them locked securely in the coop. Each day the girls will lay 3-5 fresh eggs in the nesting box between the coop and shed. You are welcomed to collect eggs from the nesting box outside the coop. When we are not on the property, we keep the girls in the coop. If you do let them out during the day, please ensure that you put them back in the coop before 3pm for their protection. Thanks!

About Melinda & John Vaughn
My husband and I were both born and raised in San Diego, and have lived in La Mesa for over 15 years. We are particularly enamored by the Mt Helix area, and believe it is truly a hidden gem. Avid travelers, we only recently discovered the joys and benefits of vacation home rentals as an alternative to traditional hotel stays. When not working on, or playing in our home, you will find us enjoying family time outdoors or sneaking off for a weekend away. We are very proud of the home and property we have painstakingly remodeled over the past 4 years, and are so happy to be able to share our special home and the “experience” it offers to others.

Great Family Vacation Home
The property was exactly as pictured. Plenty of space for all 10 of us. Loved the pool, hot tub and fire pit -- used all of these amenities daily. So nice to have speakers outside, too. Hope to have the opportunity to return again on a future trip. Thank you, John and Melinda!
Best family vacation at an amazing property
Our entire family - 9 in total - traveled to California for a family vacation and found a true gem in this property. Everything was exactly as pictured and described. The house is laid out fantastic for privacy, yet it has room for gathering for meals and entertainment. John and Melinda were gracious hosts and made sure we had everything we needed. They even supplied fixings for s'mores....what a treat. We will cherish our memories from this vacation and if given the chance would love to rent the property again. Thank you for having such a wonderful home.
After reading all the 5-star reviews of this home, we rented this home hoping to find a great stay. We expected to find at least 1 thing wrong with the house. We found nothing wrong. By far the best house we have ever stayed in the 15+ years of golf vacations. Amazing place. If we ever go back to San Diego, this will be our only option.
Comfortable, homey, clean, home perfect for families and groups
I can’t count how many times all 11 of us at one point just sat down and said “wow.” This home was perfect for the group that we had. Our thought going into the trip was that we wanted a place that is not only large enough to accommodate 11 people but also private enough that we could spend a lot of time just being outside together. During our Sunday-Thursday stay we left the house to grab lunch in Oceanbeach and that was it. With the front courtyard, patio, fire pit, and pool area with lots of seating, we didn’t have a reason to leave. We were comfortable anywhere on the property and when the conversation moved inside at night we had plenty of space for that too. Even with the size of our group we were all able to eat our meals together at the large dining room table (which was covered with plates of food made on the Traeger out front.)
Melinda and John, thank you for sharing that piece of paradise with us. I know we’ll be talking about the 7 massive palm trees and the incredible sunsets that we witnessed at Seven Palms in La Mesa for a long long time. If we find ourselves looking for a VRBO in SD area again your place will top the list.
Great House with an Amazing View
We have stayed at many vacation rentals for our family holiday every year. This is the first time we really wanted to write a review. First is the view, the sunsets are breathtaking, the ocean is a few miles away, but you can see all of San Diego and the ocean. The location is great, close enough to the cool things in San Diego but up on this beautiful hill. But what stands out is how well the house is stocked for guests, even to the smallest details (water bottles by the side of each bed). We even enjoyed fresh eggs from the chickens on the property. Melinda and John were excellent hosts, they helped us out a couple of times, gave us great recommendations and replied almost immediately when we had a question. We hope to come back to this house in the future. I would happily recommend this one.

Rates are based on a maximum occupancy of 10 people. Pool Heating: There is a pool heating fee if you elect to heat the pool. Fees vary by season, as it is much more expensive to heat the pool during colder months. Please let us know in advance if you’d like heating as it can take up to 24 hours to heat up to 80+ degrees. You may pay the pool heating fee separately by check or cash upon arrival. * November – March: A pool heating fee of $120 for the first day (the day you check-in), and $60 per day (or partial day) thereafter will be assessed. * April – October: A pool heating fee of $90 for the first day (the day you check-in), and $45 per day thereafter will be assessed.
