About Mark Heles

I am a long-term resident of Beaufort SC. I currently reside on St Helena Island, SC with my wife, Beverly, a former teacher. Our two daughters and two grandchildren also live here in Beautiful Beaufort by the Sea.

Mark Heles purchased this apartment in 1987

Why Mark Heles chose Historic District

We purchased this property in 1987 and renovated the entire building in 1997 adding the Magnolia Bakery Cafe and Garden Gift Gallery. The original building was built in the mid 1950's and has been upgraded several times. The Cafe, in its 19th year of continuous operation has inside seating, covered outside seating, and open waterfront seating with umbrellas on the front of the building. The Cafe serves a variety of seasonal products and has the reputation for the best crab cake in town. Suites A & B have always been long-term rentals and beginning in September 1, 2016 we upgraded and converted them to furnished short-term rentals.

What makes this apartment unique

We fell in love with this building because of the cool breezes, large magnolias and Spanish moss covered trees. The building is located in the historic district on Carteret St. at Bellamy Curve and has sweeping views of the Intercostal Waterway. There is reserved parking in front of the entry door but if by chance it is taken there is an abundance of available parking located behind the Cafe.

Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

Terrific location. Kids were excited because it was above the Magnolia Bakery Cafe one of our favorite restaurants. Really convenient to downtown, but far enough to be very quiet. Everything was so well maintained and we really liked the beachy feel of the decor. Beaufort is one of our favorite towns and we will definitely consider staying here again.

Great

  • 5 of 5

Why stay in a hotel when you could stay in an apartment downtown for less. Lots of nice touches, including bikes, plus all the comforts of home.

RiverWatch was the perfect place for my husband and I. Perfect location, beautiful view!

  • 5 of 5

Totally enjoyed our time in Beaufort and planning to go back soon. We would stay at the same quaint little upstairs apartment with all the comforts of home yet in walking distance of the beautiful historic city. Bikes are available to ride the trails and streets as well. We also loved the convenience of the Magnolia Bakery Cafe downstairs for breakfast and lunches. Perfect!

Nice clean property and excellent value

  • 4 of 5

We had a comfortable apartment in Beaufort for our escape from the cold and snow of New England in March. Riverwatch was just the place. Mark Heles, our landlord, was helpful suggesting places to see and eat, providing bikes, and on call for our needs. The location was excellent. We overlooked a section of the river and were within walking distance to view the beautiful sunsets on Pigeon Point. It offered an easy cycling trip into town. The Spanish Moss Bike Trail was a favorite destination for a little exercise and pleasant wildlife views. A super market was only about two miles away for groceries and the apartment’s china and kitchen utensils were in excellent condition. The flat had a lovely café on the ground floor that made good a quick nearby meal.

We have love visiting the low country and will certainly be back.

We were supplied with passes to the beautiful beaches of Hunting Island Park and visited friends in nearby Bluffton and Hilton Head and Museum on Parris Island.

Clean quiet and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The one bedroom apartment we rented was very quiet, clean and comfortable. There were abundant supplies and suitable appliances in the kitchen, the bed was very comfortable, and the heating/cooling options made it easy to keep the area comfortable. The sitting room was comfortable with a DVD player and flat screen TV. The location was also excellent-----close to downtown and waterfront, with a nice park across the road overlooking the Beaufort River. There were also good bicycles available for our use. The DVD's on hand relating to books made into movies in the Beaufort area was a nice touch.
