Welcome to Hale Kailani, the 'Sea and Sky House'. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, amazing sunrises, occasional lightning storms, year round turtle and spinner dolphins and seasonal humpback whales right off the back lanai. Located just south of Hilo on the eastside of the Island of Hawaii (Big Island). Situated on a 1/2 acre lot in the rural subdivision of Hawaiian Paradise Park, this cozy and clean oceanfront home feels secluded but is within close proximity to shopping, dining and other 'must do' activities. This house features 2 bedrooms and a full bathroom on the main level, a large loft with a bathroom upstairs and a good sized lanai looking out at the ocean with an outdoor dining set, BBQ and additional seating. Newly purchased and undergoing phased renovations.

Beautiful Home, Great Accommodations, Gorgeous View

Clean, comfortable, well appointed, ample supplies available, unbelievable views from the house and deck overlooking the ocean. We had a wonderful, relaxing stay. We had everything we needed at our disposal. Furnishings were very comfortable. We did a lot of sightseeing and it was great to come home to such a welcoming place. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Hilo.

Beautiful Weather on the Big Island - great views/wonderful home.

The home is very clean and well laid out. The views from the deck (particularly for whale watching are fantastic. The highpoint of our stay was seeing the lava spewing from the eruption at night. The home is close enough to the park that we could go there twice in the same day just to see if after dark.The best are excellent, the kitchen is well stocked and the place was clean and neat. The owner supplied good directions for shopping and local activities - don't be put off by the 5 mile drive down from the main road - it is worth it when you arrive!

Such a lovely property, we felt so welcome and comfortable. The house has all the little things to make it an easy stay. And all the big things like views, gorgeous landscaping, quiet neighborhood that make is a vacation destination. The weather was amazing, we had clear nights and saw shorting stars. Saw whales and our kids loved hunting geckos in the yard. Dave & Tina keep a beautiful home and know how to show hospitality even from afar. We appreciate their good communication and the house books they left at the home. Hilo is so cool, lots of great beaches, good restaurants and volcanos is close by.

This property was stunning! It had incredible views, was very clean, and the property owners thought of everything we could need. We had plenty of room for our family of 6. We were all comfortable and truly enjoyed both the indoor and outdoor spaces. We even saw a whale right off the back patio on our last day! Incredible! This house was the perfect escape!

This house had everything we could have wanted. We sat on the cliffs and watched the whales, visited the active volcano, and so much more. You are close to pahoa village and the red road. After visiting various island and towns around Hawaii, this may be my favorite spot. Mahalo for everything!

Just what we needed

We booked this property as it had just the space we needed for our family of four (12yo and 14yo) as we explored the east coast of the Big Island. Living in the country, we are used to traveling 30 mins to things, so it was no sweat for us to travel to go to Hilo or Volcanoes. The house provided all that was promised and more. No complaints at all! Beautiful views, clean, well-stocked home. It was a great experience!

Hilo Vacation

Awesome private place. Neighborhood quiet and pretty. Hearing and seeing the surf all the time was amazing. My kids LOVED it and we would stay here again if visiting Hilo area. The "no AC" was NOT an issue. Ocean breeze was "natural AC". Kind of a drive to Hilo and Volcanoes National Park but not difficult and worth the view and seclusion.

Ocean cliff stunner

We loved every part of our stay at this property. The house was equipped with everything you could possibly need. The beds were extremely comfortable and all areas of the house were perfect for both family time and just relaxing with a good book. The loft area was a bit warmer than the other areas of the house but were equipped with extra fans that came in handy. Best part of each day was the sunrise and set just relaxing on the lanai with a cup of coffee. The location is far enough away from the world but close enough if you want to go explore.

Absolute paradise

Our stay was just wonderful. The home itself was welcoming and perfectly appointed with everything we needed during our visit. The views from the loft and living/ dining room were so breathtaking. I didnā€™t notice the large tv in the living room for the first 3 days, the view was that eye-catching. Plenty of space to accommodate our family and friend. We would recommend staying at this home to anyone looking for a relaxed paradise. The neighborhood was nice and easy to navigate, good for a morning walk. We all hope to stay again. Beautiful view for a great stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would gladly do it again. Views were gorgeous, neighborhood (people) quiet even on Memorial Day weekend, and the house has lots of thoughtful amenities. My cautions: Stairs are unavoidable, and/or if you want AC for comfort or consistency, this isnā€™t for you. It rains several times a day and you must close the windows (and leave them closed if you leave the house). The coqui frogs are also quite loud, which we found charming. Others might not. We had one question during our stay, and the hosts were responsive and helpful. Would definitely stay again if we have the chance.

Wonderfully well thought-out

Tina and David's place is exceptionally well thought-out. There are loads of little touches everywhere that make it clear this isn't just a side rental project for them--beautiful art on the walls, loads of extra beach towels, umbrellas by the door, a super well-stocked kitchen, a bluetooth speaker, and so forth. Every time we thought "wouldn't it be nice if...", they'd already anticipated the idea. Communication was superb, the location on the cliffs is beautiful (we saw whales every day from the deck), and everything was super-clean. Two thumbs up! Thanks, Tina and David!

Amazing again!

We stayed at Hale Kailani for a month from Feb to Mar, 2024. This was the second time we stayed here (previously for a month in Jan, 2022) and it did not disappoint. Tina and David are the ultimate VRBO hosts ā€“ always available and responded immediately to any questions we had. The house was extremely well appointed and clean when we arrived. The views from the cliff side lanai are amazing and we saw too many whales and turtles to count while enjoying a coffee during the sunrise, or a Mai Tai during the afternoons. The area is quiet and has lots of great areas to walk and is relatively close to HawaiŹ»i Volcanoes National Park and the town of Hilo. We did a fair amount of cooking and found most everything we needed easily at handā€¦ our home away from home. For close by food to takeout, we really enjoyed the Huli Huli chicken at the roadside stand near Paradise Drive and Keaau-Pahoa Road. In the nearby WH Shipman Business Park, you will find the Maā€™ona Lunch Counter and the Wailuku Brew Works - not much in the way of ambience, but the food and beer canā€™t be beat! Thank you Tina and David for allowing us to stay at your Hale Kailani again ā€“ if we get back to the Big Island, we will not hesitate to stay with you again. Mahalo!

Tranquility by the Sea

What an amazing stay! From the lovely welcome basket of goodies to the gorgeous ocean views, this stay had everything! The balcony views were a highlightā€¦we enjoyed early morning sightings of spinner dolphins as well as amazing nighttime views of the full moon. This place had just about every amenity we could ask for. It was a great distance from both Hilo and Volcano and this was a perfect jumping off point for all of our outdoor adventures. Absolutely would stay here again!!

Beautiful and fully stocked!

This is a wonderful home to stay in. When I read "fully stocked" in other reviews, I had no idea what they meant until I arrived. There wasn't one thing we needed that we couldn't find in a cabinet or kitchen drawer. It truly felt like we were visiting our friend's home, junk drawer and all! Tina and Dave even provide a computer, which we used to plan our day. The gift basket of soap, cookies, and coffee was wonderful and so thoughtful (and the cookies are fantastic). The views from the lanai were perfect - we saw multiple rainbows over the ocean, and a few nene birds. We spent a lot of time on the lanai, but it does get hot when the sun comes up as there is no shade at all. The house is a bit far from everywhere that you'll want to go, but it is centrally located between VNP and Hilo, which was nice. I don't think that there's any one location on the island where you can stay and not have to drive a lot, as it is definitely a "big" island. We tried to go to Kaleo's Bar and Grill in Pahoa, but they were closed - not sure if that was for the day or the season, but I would call ahead if you go there, as Google thought they should be open. The house is very peaceful and in a quiet location. If you turn off all of the lights in the house and look up at the sky, you can see an infinite number of stars. It's a great place to unwind and enjoy your vacation. Mahalo to Tina and Dave for inviting us into your home!

We stayed here in July and just loved the house. Very roomy, comfortable and wonderful spot right on the cliffs overlooking the ocean. Beautiful garden, nice quiet neighborhood ā€¦. House has everything you will need for a relaxing stay.

Welcome to our little cliff house. Thank you choosing to stay with us, we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. David and I were both raised on the island of Oahu and started our family there. In the mid 90's we packed up and moved to Washington State to attend college. We ended up staying in Washington to pursue our careers. There is just no place like Hawaii, we visit as much as we can and are so happy that we are finally able to have a little home of our own right on the water. The atmosphere is so relaxing-it truly is our sanctuary. There are things that are unique to this island such as active lava flows and Coqui frogs that are fun to experience. I suspect we will retire here someday but for now we visit 4 to 5 times a year and as a result are able to share our home with you.

We love the eastside of the island - its so green and a bit more rural than the westside. All of the Big Island has something to offer but this area feels like home.

David and I had been watching this particular property for about 4 years. My husband and I are both in design professions and the simplicity of the house and the room for growth both in the house and on the property caught our attention right away. We were thrilled the homeowner accepted our offer and we can now call this little cottage on a cliff in Hawaii our second home.

We are remodeling strategically. Currently the house has a new roof, new water heater, new water filtration, new exterior paint and some new appliances. We have also replaced the furniture and will continue to improve on it. My husband is a local boy, growing up fishing and surfing so being able to fish right in his backyard is a huge bonus. When we visit, we spend every evening out on the lanai watching the sun go down. We often see beautiful full moons with clear skies that are perfect for star gazing. We have on occasion got to do some storm watching with lightning bolts out over the water. In January, February and March the humpback whales migrate through the islands, and they literally breech in the depths right off the lanai. It's amazing. It is my absolute favorite time to visit.
