Perfect Couple's Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at Bon Bini in Coral Bay, St John for 10 days this July of 2018. We could not be happier with our selection. This is saying a lot, because we spent a whole lot of time and effort researching all the different places we could stay. We have a very detailed spreadsheet to prove it. :)

The view of coral bay is amazing. We will miss the evenings and nights sitting on the deck looking at the sunsets and stars accompanied by the famous trade winds. The kitchen is well suited for cooking and eating at home. There is an A/C in both the living are and the bedroom to keep cool. It's nice to have a TV with Roku in both spaces. Everything to feel like home whenever you're not at the beach.

And speaking of beaches, Bon Bini is well located and gets you within 10-15 minutes of all the breathtaking beaches that St John has to offer. You can't be closer to some without being further from others, so it's a pretty good spot. We visited Trunk Bay, Cinnamon Bay, Hawksnest Bay, Maho and Little Maho, Hansen Bay, Salt Pond Bay and Waterlemon Cay.

Back to Bon Bini... The place is so very cute. It is fairly private. The Owner's are next door, but the place is arranged well so you have your own space which is important to us. We only had one very minor issue with the water pump, and with a simple text to the property manager the problem was fixed within literally 5 minutes...probably less. The entire experience was great!

We would recommend Bon Bini to anyone looking to vacation in St John. You will not be disappointed.

We'd like also to say a little about the condition of St John in general. We were concerned about what things would be like here less than a year removed from the 2 Hurricanes. It is sad to see that such a beautiful island still has a long way to go in recovery in so many ways. There are some places that almost bring you to tears imagining what the people here have been through. However, please don't stay away because of this. Our vacation was not diminished in any way. We are very happy we came. Much of the island looks as perfect as ever. The beaches are still amazing. The snorkeling is wonderful. The island is still a perfect couple's getaway.

Amazing Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I visited St. John for the first time this year. The cottage was even better than the pictures. They put a cool new railing on the back porch and there is some nice shade on part of the deck behind the bedroom with a cute table and chairs. I think the deck was our favorite spot. It is a large deck and it overlooks Coral Bay just like it shows in the photos. We would sit out there in the morning with some coffee and just admire the view, which even though it has changed since the hurricanes from this past year, it is still remarkable to be able to wake up to every morning.

The hot tub was another great asset to this cottage. It was clean, warm, and a perfect size for two. I honestly didn't think we would use it, but after a full day of hiking and snorkeling, and with the temps going down slightly in the evenings, this made for a wonderful end of the day treat. We used it every evening and it was spectacular.

The cottage was very clean, and very nicely decorated. We had all the essentials, plus a few extras, which was great. There is a folder with instructions, such as keeping any foods in the fridge that can attract ants and taking the trash out. Please read! It is very good advice and it kept our time at the cottage bug free.

We have to give a special thank you to Emily, the property manager. She was absolutely wonderful! We weren't really sure as to how much cash we would need and the actual time it would take to get from St. Thomas to St. John and without even asking she sent us detailed instructions on what we needed to do when we landed, how much a taxi ride was, the price of the ferry to get over to St. John, and about how long those things would take. She also gave us advice on grocery stores and was just all-in-all so accommodating and super nice to work with. Emily you made this trip very easy for us being that it was our first time here and we greatly appreciate it! :)

Finally, the owners of this cottage live next door, but no worries, they never intruded. They gave us privacy the whole time we were there. We saw them in passing and ran into them around Coral Bay, but they never came over to the cottage. They are wonderful people. When we did run into them in town, we got to talking and they are super nice and had me cracking up through most of our conversations. We actually wish we could've talked a little more. :)

We highly recommend this cottage and will be back! Thank you for everything!!

Amazing cottage with beautiful views!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Bon Bini! It had all the amenities we needed. The cold A/C in the bedroom and living room were perfect for those nights when the tradewinds were calm. The kitchen was stocked with all we needed to make our own meals if we desired. The hot tub was clean and relaxing and the deck was the best part because it gave us that beautiful view of Coral Bay. We will definately come again. St. John is waiting for you and Bon Bini is the perfect place to stay.

IMMACULATE, BUT ISSUES

  • 3 of 5

The cottage was spotless which makes it worth considering by the budget minded tourist. But a couple of problems and a couple of considerations if you're tempted to rent.

The refrigerator did not work. After 12 hours the desk thermometer showed 70 degrees - our milk spoiled after 2 days. The a/c unit in the kitchen/living area would not even turn on and I don't think the owner was surprised when we mentioned it. When the power went out, we quickly were asked not to run the a/c unit in the bedroom because it would deplete the solar battery. We understood that. But our sense was that the owners would just as soon as their guests not use the a/c.

Make sure the seating is adequate for your needs. The small loveseat is comfortable only for one if reading or watching TV at night. You'll have to jury-rig a reading light either for it or for the bed. Finally, the deck is in full sun most of the day. We got as much sun as we wanted at the beach and an escape from it would've been nice.
