everything was clean and such a nice vibe. Only issues were we had a reaction to the pool, idk if it was the chlorine or the pool noodles. But bad rashes all over our arms. Then the no hot water and bathroom having a large amount of mosquitoes was a bummer. Everything else was great, location, view, the house, the plants. we loved it and would return again.

This place is a hidden gem. While we were ready to escape reality for a few days we didn’t have access to wifi/internet despite multiple requests so this made it challenging to be able to plan where to go or how to get there.

My husband and I booked Caramel by the Sea for our honeymoon. We wanted something private with a pool and this home did not disappoint. The views from the pool and back wraparound deck were phenomenal. The interior with the wood and high ceilings was beautiful. It was really helpful to have a greeter meet us at our jeep rental and show us the way to the house. Chef Ted lives below but we only saw him once and he was very personable. The house has everything you could need. Gorgeous kitchen. Outdoor bath. Private pool. Ambiance. Stocked bar. Views. Beach supplies and more. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for a romantic getaway.

A beautiful home nestled in the hills above fish bay. I felt like I was staying in a botanist’s dream, there was so much greenery on the property! Ted really takes care of this place, and the kitchen was very well appointed. We ended up eating out only one night because I was enjoying the kitchen and grill so much. The house had everything we needed to explore St. John, even a cooler and beach chairs. The outdoor bathroom was elegant and so charming. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay. I can’t wait to come back!

This is an unusual property but near perfect.The maintenance of the plants is an endless project and the results show off the hard work.Due to carnival we had trouble checking in but after finding out that reason for all the communication problems was celebrating carnival all was forgiven everyone loves a party.The big problem for me was the near nonexistent WiFi service you have to be a maximum of 15 feet away from router to get service. No service by the pool or the bed room. On the bright side it forced me to relax instead of work. We solved the mosquito problem by making sure the bathroom door to the bedroom remained closed the entire stay. The reviews on the open air bath were not clear in my opinion. The outdoor shower and toilet have a roof on it but one wall is completely open to a 8’x12’ area filled with potted plants.It looks great but it needs a little retaining wall to prevent the rain from coming on the bathroom floor.It is a real wake up call stepping in a small puddle of water in the middle of the night. I like to know everything about the rentals before I go so I can decide if something is a deal breaker for me.I would rent this house again and will have great memories and some stories to share with others.

Romantic and Special

Our stay was wonderful. Location is secluded but still accessible to Cruz Bay. The views here are breathtaking. The pool is a wonderful addition, especially if you get a chance to watch the Stars. It very much feels like a home while you're staying there. You certainly need a rental car as well as be adventurous in your driving skill.

Wonderful Stay

We loved our stay here. This place is wonderfully outfitted and feels secluded, but not so much that a 15 minute drive can't get you to Cruz Bay! Tons of vegetation both outside and inside to just make this place feel so comfy and relaxing! The pool was well maintained and the grill was ready, which we took advantage of both.The host is very pleasant and available if needed, although you won't need anything to enjoy your stay!

Charming Stay on St. John.

Charming villa in a great location on Fish Bay. Our 2nd stay on St. John and Carmel By the Sea was a great spot for us to get where we wanted to and come home to relax in our own private retreat. Lots of beautiful plants around the villa which added to the secluded feel. The pool/deck area was exactly as pictured. There is a large, well stocked kitchen/bar area with plenty of room to prepare meals & drinks. The bathroom is uniquely open to a private bedroom porch area outside. We liked it and found keeping towels on the rack inside the door to the bedroom minimized mosquito issues mentioned by some. This place has everything you need to enjoy your trip. Our only suggestion would be to refresh the couches in the seating area. We had a great time!

Great Villa

We loved the Villa. Its location is very nice and it's an easy 12 minute drive to Cruz Bay. Just relaxing on the porch was nice. Lots of plants around the porch and the villa give it a nice feel.

Nice stay away from town

Check in was easy with being met at ferry and lead to the location. Roads were narrow and some crazy turns to get there.

Perfect Little Getaway Spot

We fell in love with the island and the location of this villa. The views in the morning with birds singing is the perfect way to start the day. We loved the house's location and having the pool to cool off during the afternoons.The one thing I did have to get used to was the open bathroom. I am a mosquito magnet, and especially at night, I wished there were windows to keep them out of the bathroom.

Great location for a solo traveler

I have stayed here before but this time came alone for some R&R after a busy year. This home is very clean and the host is extremely accommodating. The neighborhood is very quiet and I prefer it that way. Morning walks, reading at the pool, then taking a drive to one of the beaches after lunch was a perfect week for me. Thank you!

Absolutely Breathtaking Experience at this Villa

I want to start by saying that as a seasoned traveler who has stayed in vacation rentals on every continent, this review is as genuine as it gets. Ted’s villa easily ranks in my top three worldwide. That said, Ted’s place is in a league of its own. It was pure luxury, perfectly blending island architecture with nature in the most seamless and breathtaking way. Ted, a famous island chef, took the time to share his incredible story with us, which added a personal touch to our stay. The villa’s highlights are endless: daily visits from the sought-after Bananaquits, endless starry starry nights enjoyed from the pool overlooking Fish Bay, and a garden that rivals some of the best botanical gardens in the U.S. We gathered fresh herbs from the garden to elevate our five-star meals, paired with fresh lobster from the local market, making us feel like absolute rockstars. The design, ambiance, and hospitality were unparalleled, and I can’t believe we were able to experience this at such a reasonable price. Anyone who writes him a bad review is unhappy in life. Ted’s villa is more than a stay—it’s an unforgettable experience.

Felt like home, only in paradise

Felt like home, only in paradise. We have been going to St John since 2011. We always stay someplace different. We go once or twice a year. This time was very relaxed and easy. Ted, Mary, and crew were very kind and generous. We felt it was our home. Really giving thought with another booking and staying at Carmel again. Disappointing

- VRBO is supposed to be all about privacy, and being able to enjoy a secluded stay. To our surprise, the host stayed on the premises… we saw/ heard him everyday of our stay. This was not listed at all that our host would be with us. - this was labeled as a romantic getaway. luckily I was with my sister and not a romantic partner… on top of him staying with us the bug situation was out of control. The ONE bathroom he had was connected to the house but completely open to the outside. Mosquitoes would get in at all times of the day. We couldn’t use the bathroom comfortably. There were no bug zappers, citronella candles. Just bug spray. We didn’t feel comfortable even using the toilet we were being attacked. They all hid in the towels… Our bodies looked like we had chicken pox by the end of the trip. -the shower had NO HOT WATER. at all. - NO CELL SERVICE. couldn’t contact anyone…. Calls, texts, etc. - were unaware that we needed a rental car and were not told that. None of the taxis were willing or could take us up to where our house was because it was too high up the mountain. So we were kind of stranded. We were eventually hooked up with a very kind personal driver for the week. It had a gorgeous view and the plants were nice but other than that we were pretty uncomfortable with our stay.

Stay At Carmel By the Sea

By far one of the most beautiful scenic and relaxing rentals we have ever stayed at. This home is privately situated and peaceful. Very well-appointed home with every amenity provided by the home owner. Centrally located to beautiful beaches and the downtown of Cruz Bay. We cannot wait to return to this beautiful home to relax and enjoy again!
