About Deidre Whitt
We came to the small town of Dunnellon to raise our two girls. We had a canoe livery in Ohio for over ten years. We used to travel to the Keys often; as that is where my father-in-law lives. On the way through, we found the Rainbow River and knew this was a piece of Florida undiscovered. 17 years ago, we opened a canoe livery at the end of the Rainbow River on the Withlacoochee River, www.rainbowrivercanoeandkayak.com
Why Deidre Whitt chose Dunnellon
This property is so unique, as it sits at the confluence of both rivers: The Rainbow River and the Withlacoochee River. The view from balcony is breathtaking!
What makes this House unique
This property is located close to our canoe and kayak livery. Shuttles run every day! We shuttle up either river-the Rainbow River ( a crystal clear spring-one of the largest springs in the world) or the Withlacoochee River (more of a forest float-deeper, dark panic water), and you float right back to your rental. You get one complimentary shuttle (for up to 4 People) with your stay. You also have use of up to 4 boats of choice to take out whenever you please ~ during your stay. Another unique benefit is that we are so close to town, but the area is so peaceful, you would not even know it. You have two bikes on site for your use, whether biking to a local restaurant or shop or to take an amazing trip on Dunnellon's new paved bike trail which hugs the Rainbow River.

Great unit in a wonderful location
The river view is fantastic and the unit itself is clean and well maintained. Very comfortable with all the little touches that made us feel right at home. The friendly and helpful staff right next door at the canoe and kayak livery made everything easy.
A definite “do again”.
Beautiful views and Spring Adventures
Our family of 4 had a wonderful stay here. The house was clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed having access to boats and spent part of every day paddling along the Spring and River. Steve and the rest of the staff at the rental shop were very helpful. We didn't have any problems or questions, so we never needed to contact the owner. We would be very happy to stay here again.
Magical vacation on the Rainbow River
My daughter and I had a lovely Christmas getaway at Otter's Landing. When we walked in the door and saw the Christmas tree and the beautiful river view we knew we were in for a treat. The house was clean and cozy and had plenty of blankets, towels and supplies. We enjoyed the whimsical artwork, comfy couches and nice décor; we immediately felt right at home. My daughter loved exploring and frolicking on the property as I sipped on my coffee on the wonderful balcony overlooking the breathtaking riverfront view. We enjoyed the swings and took advantage of the complementary bikes to explore the nearby Blue Run bike trail. The location is convenient and close to everything. We walked into town for dinner and enjoyed visiting the historic shops of Dunnellon especially Grumbles House Antiques and Garden Shop. The highlight was the kayak trip down the Rainbow River. We have kayaked many places but this was pure magic and a memory my daughter and I will cherish forever. We visited the manatees at the Three Sisters Springs (not to be missed) and had a lovely walk through the scenic Rainbow Springs State Park. We loved the entire trip, appreciated the friendly staff at the Rainbow River Canoe and Kayak and all the love, thought and effort that the owners put into Otter's Landing. We look forward to returning and making more memories along the Rainbow River.
Excellent location. Immaculate and well kept even to my OCD standards. Access to free kayaks every day plus bus to a drop off point upriver awesome. Damage deposit refunded promptly. Minor concerns attended to immediately (inflated bike tires for us, etc.) Can't tell in photos but upper deck wraps around and there is outdoor plug for fans we brought with us to keep off ever present Florida insect life (mayflies at night and lovebugs in day in September, didn't see any mosquitoes!) The Rainbow River is a great alternative for nature lovers to crowded beach, I took underwater video and have crystal clear resolution of river bottom drifting by as well as 10 turtles sunning on a log in river and flock of ibis feeding in yard of property video, a great blue heron came by to fish on river near deck every morning. Thermoses for drinks on river even provided (can't take throw-away/ disposable items onto river). Good value.
Loved the location, cottage was everything we had hoped for!! We will be back.
Didn’t want to leave!
We had an amazing stay at Otter’s Landing! The Whitt’s have a beautiful place and they are awesome to work with! My husband and I had two teenage girls with us and we couldn’t keep them out of the water! We done 2 kayak trips down the Rainbow River. The water looked like we were in the Caribbean! It was beautiful! We had so much fun also seeing all the wildlife on the Withlacoochee River! Our girls caught a big turtle and a baby alligator in the yard! We had planned on driving into Tampa a few times for Bush Gardens and the water park. After one day in Bush Gardens the girls didn’t want to go to the water park. They wanted to kayak and paddle board. The staff at Rainbow River Canoe and Kayak are awesome and so accommodating! We can’t wait to come back! Thanks so much to the Whitt’s and their staff for making our trip great!
The Rainbow River is one of the largest springs in the world. It is commonly known for its clarity. Swimming, snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking and canoeing is a must.
The Withlacoochee River is known for its bass fishing, beauty and solitude.
This house is located right by the confluence of both rivers - giving renters two amazing river options of fun!
