The Mountain Reset You've Been Putting Off
You know the trip. The one where nobody has to be anywhere, the phones go quiet, and the biggest debate of the day is whether to soak in the hot tub before or after dinner. Bear Necessities was built for exactly that.
Perched high above Highlands, NC, in total seclusion, this mountain home delivers the full package — privacy, personality, and just enough entertainment to keep everyone happy without overscheduling a single minute of your vacation.
Sleep Well, Wake Better - Three thoughtfully designed bedrooms mean no one draws the short straw. The main-level king suite is a destination in itself — a freestanding soaking tub, walk-in shower, and direct access to the wraparound porch for those mornings when coffee and tree canopy is all you need. The upper-level king primary suite is tucked away for maximum quiet and comes with its own private bath — ideal for whoever needs the most recovery after a day on the trails. The full bedroom downstairs features blackout curtains, because good sleep is non-negotiable. A fourth queen bedroom on the lower level rounds out the sleeping arrangements.
Gather, Play, Repeat - The wood-burning fireplace in the great room sets the tone every evening — warm, unhurried, exactly right. Downstairs, a pool table provides the kind of low-stakes competition that turns into a full-blown family tournament by night two. Ping pong keeps things lively when the pool table is occupied. Smart TV throughout means movie nights are covered when the group finally runs out of energy.
The Porch Changes Everything - Screened-in, wraparound, strung with lights, and seating for a crowd — this porch is the reason guests come back. It's where breakfast happens, where the rain sounds incredible, where someone always ends up with a book and a blanket at 2pm. A dining table for ten means the whole group can eat together outside, which somehow makes every meal taste better. And when the evening cools down, the private hot tub is right there — because that's exactly what your muscles need after a day in the Highlands.
What's Nearby - Downtown Highlands is minutes away — boutique shopping, acclaimed restaurants, waterfalls, and trailheads all within easy reach. Come back whenever you're ready. Bear Necessities will be here.

Thanks for the great review Mary! We're so happy to hear that you enjoyed Bear Necessities!
We enjoyed our stay at Bear Necessities. The home was very clean and spacious. The only thing I would recommend would be queen size beds instead of full size in two of the bedrooms. But overall we loved our stay there. Location to Oak Steakhouse was a plus
