Overview

About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

We built our Cannon Beach home in the late 1980s and have been enjoying it ever since. It is a large two and a half story home with ocean views to the west and south, including Haystack Rock & the Needles. You can enjoy the views from two sundecks, or from almost every room in the house.

IN THE HOUSE... a spacious living room and sundeck for lounging & reading; all with ocean views. For stormy nights there is a wood-burning stove/ fireplace. There is also plenty of room for arts/crafts in the dining room area, as well as playing games and doing puzzles.

The main floor King master suite has its own private, 3/4 bath and a partial ocean view.

There is a Queen bedroom on the same floor, w/ access to small back deck and TV. Utilizes a second main floor bathroom.

A second Queen bedroom is located on the top story with an amazing view of the coast -- it has a queen bed and its own private viewing deck. Utilizes the second main floor bath.

On the first / lower floor there is a comfortable reading / movie watching room, with a wood-burning stove & up-to-date 50" flatscreen TV. There are two twin bedrooms on the lower floor, each with two twin beds, that share a bathroom. The laundry room is also located on this floor.

OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE... it is just a five minute walk down to the beach -- our home is located on the east side of Hemlock, the main street that runs through Cannon Beach. You simply have to cross Hemlock and walk down either a small hill or a public staircase to get down to the Beach and Haystack Rock.

Midtown Cannon Beach is a 5-10 minute walk from our home, Downtown is about 20 -- 30 if you're walking on the beach. There is also a shuttle that goes from town that you can take -- no need to drive anywhere!

About Helen Fraser

Our parents bought the land in the 1970s and dad and brothers built the house in the late 1980s. We have been enjoying it ever since.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time at your beach house. The house is marvelously comfortable. The weather was perfectly iconic. We have photos of our children on Cannon Beach from 30 years ago wearing hooded sweatshirts in August, and now have images of our grandson to match.

What did you love about the house?

. Very comfortable and quiet.

. Location is great. Good beach access with a bit of morally

invigorating climb back to the house (it is the Oregon coast, after all).

. Close enough to "downtown" CB but beyond the motels.

. The decks and bay window nook.

. The game hoard (junior Monopoly and the fishing game were big

hits).

. All the appliances worked and the kitchen was well equipped

particularly for beach life. Viz., there were about a dozen cork pullers

and we bought crabs knowing there would be implements to crack them (yup,

back of the tableware drawer). `

. The fireplace (and dumbwaiter for fire wood) is remarkable. Who

knew that two sticks of firewood could produce that much heat?

. The fact that you left out so many objects of obvious personal

significance was very welcoming.

What could use improvement?

-We can't suggest any improvements. Keep it up.

Great location and property!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and son and I stayed here with our extended family for a week around the 4th of July. Two grandparents and several other adults joined us (8 adults plus 1 child). The house was more than big enough for the 9 of us.

The main floor contains a master suite (king + 3/4 bath), another 3/4 bath, a small TV room (which we used as a nursery), and a large living room, kitchen, and dining room. There is also a large deck with a grill. When at home, we spent most of the time on this floor--very comfortable for many people and meals.

The lower floor has two bedrooms with two twin beds each, and another studio-style suite off the entrance with a queen bed. There is also a full bath on the lower floor. And then the very top floor of the house is a room with a queen and great views of Haystack rock.

The house has plenty of amenities for entertaining, cooking, and dining. We cooked a lot of meals here. Clearly this house has had a lot of renters over the years and the owners have made sure there are tools for just about everything: a salad spinner, wine openers, coffee maker, etc. We definitely appreciated that we had everything we needed.

The location is very convenient: it is a quick walk down to the beach (you can be there in around 5 minutes). And likewise just a 10 minute walk or so to the southern part of Cannon Beach (a few restaurants, small convenience store, etc.). It is a longer walk (~20 minutes) to the main part of Cannon Beach, but we walked it pretty much every day. It is a very pretty walk: you can either walk along the beach, or through the pretty side neighborhoods, or along Hemlock.

We had a great time and really enjoyed this house. We hope to be back some day!

Amazing views/Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our group of 8 adults. We had 2 cars between us but rarely used them (except to get to hiking trailheads and to the Safeway in Seaside) because of the proximity to the beach and town. It was immaculate and spacious with an incredible view of Haystack Rock and the decks are perfect spots to watch the unbeatable Oregon coast sunsets. We found the house had a perfect layout so that we never felt we were bumping into each other. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals at home and enjoy fabulous water views while you dine. We would definitely recommend this lovely home and if we find our way back to Cannon Beach it would be top of our list for accommodations. The owner was great to work with, responsive and easy to reach via email. Some of our favorite spots in CB were Insomnia Coffee and the creperie. The Cape Falcon hike has some stunning scenery. The CB interpreters at Haystack Rock are a good source of info about the rock's significance for the birds. Rent some beach cruisers from Mike's Bike Shop and ride down to Hug Point.

Memorial Day weekend reunion

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for our family reunion. The views are spectacular. The only complaint (minor) was the neighbors were busy with home projects so weed eaters and saws were buzzing over the weekend but it didn't detract us from having a great time. Great location with plenty of amenities in the house.
