Rustic home that is not for everyone

We had a pleasant stay in spite of some issues. The house is on a nice gated quiet property with a pretty view from the deck. The caretaker was kind and oriented us. The major downside is there are no screens and no glass windows, just solid wood shutters. There is no light, no outside air and no view when they are closed. At night the shutters must be closed for bugs and you’re completely shut in. During the day the shutters can be opened but some mosquitos come in and it gets hot. Air conditioning worked but was quite noisy. It is near the river and if you’re wondering, there is no access to the river from the property. Unfortunately the photos in this listing when we rented showed screen doors which have since been removed. We were offered a 10% discount since the house was not found as pictured.

Thank you for sharing your thoughtful feedback. We're glad to hear you enjoyed the peaceful setting, the view from the deck, and the warm welcome from our caretaker. We truly appreciate your honesty about the aspects that didn’t meet expectations. We apologize for the photos that showed screens – these were included accidentally and were from when we were communicating with the contractor whom we hired to put in screens. Unfortunately, his work was sub-par and we had to remove them. Regarding not having light, the house has electricity with a full house generator. Both bedrooms are air conditioned, as well as the living area. Regarding access to the river: although there is a gate leading to the river, we deliberately keep this gate locked because the river is connected to a reservoir, which means that at any given time, without warning, the river can be flooded when the reservoir overflows. For this reason, we do not advertise the house as being on the river. It is a safety precaution. We're committed to transparency and comfort, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to make things right during your stay. Thank you again for choosing us.
