Weekend near Post Mills
Very picturesque location. Although there was already a nice fire in the wood stove it did take a day to warm the kitchen half of the cottage up to comfortable. It was also fortunate that one of our party has a wood burning cook stove at his camp and was familiar on how to operate one. Cooking breakfast was fun after the learning curve and helped get that half of the cottage a comfortable temperature. The wood stove in the living room and the wood burning cook stove in the kitchen are the only sources of heat so city folk may want to rent during the summer or Google on how to operate both types of stoves. Once we had the cottage up to temperature it was quite comfortable for our stay. Extra wood was in the woodshed a ways up the path from the cottage which you can wheel down in a wheelbarrow. Having a three or four day supply at the cabin along with kindling would have been more convenient.
Coffee! Old fashioned percolator coffee pot. Worked great as long as you had the cook stove going to heat the coffee pot to percolate. An electric coffee pot or a hot plate for the percolator would have been nice.
Water pressure is gravity feed from a spring, so while the shower water pressure was a little on the low side, it was adequate and hot.
Wifi worked well with speed faster than I get at home. However don't expect any cell service any where in that area of Vermont. If you need to stay in touch make sure you have an app you can use through wifi such as messenger or Skype.
As it says in the information, you may have to walk across the foot bridge during high water. Even during low water you will need a high off the ground SUV to cross the brook, so plan on walking across the bridge and up the path to the cabin.
The cottage is a bit rustic; cooking on a wood fired cook stove is inconvenient, takes a little practice and patience, but get the job done; the water pressure was low but the water was hot; oh, and there may be a few country mice sharing the cottage with you (telltale signs); and you may have to walk a bit if you don't have a high 4x4; but it is FAR BETTER than spending three days in a tent in May in Vermont in the rain.
Would I stay there again? Sure, why not? I now know how to operate a wood fired cook stove so I won't starve if it is raining on the deck where the gas grill is.
