Fabulous holiday home

This property was perfect for our multi-generation family holiday. The pool was a particular hit, with big wide long steps for the kids to play on but deep enough for the adults to enjoy. Plenty of shaded area for sitting outside and enjoying the scenery. The hosts were charming and helpful.

Thank you so much for your review. It was a real pleasure to host your family, and we’re so pleased to hear that the house worked so well for all generations. The pool steps are indeed a favourite for little ones, and we’re glad the adults could enjoy a proper swim too! It means a lot to hear that you felt well looked after — we always try to make guests feel at home. We'd love to welcome you back any time. Warm wishes, Loretta

Wonderful week in a little gem in Castelnuovo di G.

We were a group of 6 adults and spent a lovely week in this little gem in Castelnuovo. Each room has its own bathroom, the pool is truly fantastic, and the kitchen is well-equipped. Plenty of good restaurants in the neighborhood. Lucca is only a 45 min drive.

A perfect family vacation retreat

We (4 adults and two children) thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Capanna del Pastore, in the middle 2 weeks of August. The villa was as indicated in the write-up, it was clean and in excellent order, and the local manager (Benito) was always close at hand to answer any questions, address any very minor issues, and even, very kindly, to book local restaurants. The villa, is so close to all the amenities of Castelnuovo, yet only a few minutes by car from this excellent regional centre. Also, as the villa is within the Apennine foothills region, although the temperatures by day were lovely (high 20s C to low 30s C), at night-time the heat reduced, such that sleeping was very comfortable. Additionally, we did not encounter a single mosquito! The swimming pool was family and children friendly, accessed by roman steps the width of the pool, and was just a few yards from the upper, side entrance to the villa. The living space was on the upper level and all the bedrooms were on the lower level, which worked well. The number of bedrooms (four) was matched by the number of bathrooms, with a bed-settee plus another toilet/shower-room on that level. This area of the Apennines is scenically very beautiful and numerous outdoor activities are at hand. The coast, with the Cinque Terre villages (best accessed by boat from, say, the coastal resort of Lerici), are within reach for a day trip. Our family had a wonderful time at this villa and we can thoroughly recommend it.

Wonderful spacious property with stunning views

The whole experience of renting this property was brilliant. Firstly, Lorraine the property manager was so helpful when we couldn’t make up our minds as to which property to hire! Then, the owners, Benito and Loretta were so charming and thoughtful, attending to our needs very promptly and they only live a short drive away. Actually, the only need was for heating as we were unlucky enough to have several cool days during our stay, the heating system was excellent. We had no trouble finding the property as the instructions were very accurate. We even stopped off at a supermarket which is on route and easy to locate. 2 bottles of complimentary wine were waiting for us, a very welcome sight! I cannot over estimate how lovely this house is, a superb converted farmhouse retaining all the beautiful old features with stylish modern comforts. The plumbing was excellent - worth a mention as so many aren’t! It was only my husband and I staying there and we love the space but you could easily envisage 2 families comfortably using the house. The garden and pool are superb, very private, quiet and peaceful. Beautiful views all around especially from the front terrace, we had several sunsets. The foliage is fabulous, we saw it in Spring but I imagine Autumn is pretty wonderful too. There is also a terrace to the side which is perfect for morning coffee. Even though we loved the photos of the house when we were choosing, I would say that they cannot do the reality justice. We drove to many towns and villages during our stay, not one disappointed. Lucca, of course, came top of the list (there’s something so romantic about a walled city) and also Barga and Castelnuova. Another place we really loved although slightly further away was Monticatini de Terme. We went on a Saturday and the atmosphere was magic. Castiglione di Garfagnana was a lovely, small, ancient, walled town almost deserted but we found an ancient bridge hidden in woodland, beautiful. Thank you Benito and Loretta for the opportunity of experiencing your wonderful house, it was an absolute pleasure to meet you both and we wouldn’t hesitate to come again…much to our regret and due only to our weather, we never did actually get to swim in the pool!!

Thank you very much for your lovely comments about the house, garden and pool — we’re delighted you enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and felt it was ideal for families and friends. We’re sorry to hear the kitchen and bathrooms didn’t fully meet your expectations on arrival; we would of course have asked the cleaners to return straight away had we known. We’re so pleased that you were nevertheless able to enjoy such a pleasant and restful stay overall, and your comments will be fed back to the owner. Best wishes, Lorraine at Tuscan-retreats.

Fahrradurlaub

Thank you for your review. We are happy to hear you enjoyed this house, location and holiday overall. I am sorry you were so unlucky with the weather - it really was unseasonably wet and cold and this created the damp feeling but I am glad to hear the owner provided you with free heating. Unfortunately there was also a bit of an issue with insects that week due to weather suddenly improving after a terrible time. I understand the owners gave you ant powder. The issue hasn't reoccurred. We raised this 2nd comment re cleanliness with the cleaner and now have a different cleaning team, so thank you for your feedback in this regard. Best wishes, the team at housesintuscany and tuscan-retreats

Wunderschöne umgebaute Scheune in idyllischer Lage

Thank you for your review - we are glad you had an amazing time and loved the house, the pool and the region in general. Sorry the house was not as clean as usual. Since you had asked to arrive really early (originally 1 hour after guests had left, but then 2 hours early) the cleaner very much rushed her work and left at 2pm ready for you to arrive, rather than the usual 4pm. It is of course our fault, we should really have insisted that the cleaner needed the full time to prepare and not agreed an early check in and have taken your comments on board. Best wishes Loretta

Superb Tuscan gem!

We had a fantastic family holiday and celebration in this perfect spacious and comfortable Tuscan villa. It was a treat from beginning to end: numerous bathrooms to provide privacy, beautiful swimming pool with a shady area and mountain views and a very well equipped kitchen for family meals. How we miss this beautiful terrace and all the happy moments spent there! We would love to come back. Loretta and her husband were great hosts, always at hand and very communicative. Rundum Sorglos in ruhiger Umgebung

Thank you for your lovely review! We are glad you had a wonderful time at this gorgeous place and enjoyed the space, area, pool and Bonini's. Sorry the internet wasn't perfect when you were there - it was investigated and was a temporary reduction in speed which has now been resolved. This house has one of the best internets in the area as you can usually stream too. We hope to hear from you another time. Benito and Loretta
