This family left Whales Wonder in excellent condition. I hope their Pacific Ocean visit was a wonderful one.

Indeed, I understand the challenges of sleeping on different mattresses and pillows when traveling. I actually take my own pillow with me when possible. The mattresses are on the firm side at Whales Wonder, but the two upstairs are different brands. I believe that firm mattresses are better for the posture over time. Then the two mattresses on the bunk beds are for smaller kids. I cannot place deeper systems, as it will place the kids too high in the upper bunk for safety. Maybe I will invest in a deeper one for the bottom bunk, tho. The futon is a fourth surface for those comfortable with this type of mattress. One idea for vacation travel is to invest in inflatable Sea to Summit travel pillows. At least these easy-to-pack units give folks a comfort option. Here's to always finding the best beds!

So sorry your family had difficulty with the stairs, Stacie. They are pictured in the photos of Whales Wonder. There is a secure gate to protect small children and I alert folks to pay attention of smaller kids on these stairs. Scores of guests have navigated them successfully hundreds of times. I hope everyone enjoying my home realizes that fitness, balance, adequate footwear, use of stairwell lighting, use of the very stable handrail, focus and use of alcohol or medications all effect our ability to utilize stairways without mishap. Many little children have gone up and down the stairs without incident. Also, my cupboard is full of condiments and items to add flavor to food. There is a statement in my VRBO description that clarifies what is included in the kitchen. My greatest hope is that guests can read carefully to avoid disappointment during their stay. Also, I am sorry you felt shorted of trash bags. I provide enough for folks to fill one modest bin a week. Any need beyond that would be the guests' responsibility. It is always an unknown as to how beds will meet guest needs. Of note: The two upstairs queen mattresses are only two years old and high quality firm mattresses. It may be that the housekeeper did not fit the mattress protecter on tightly, but I have slept heavenly on both these beds, and love firm beds. I believe firm mattresses are better for good posture. The bunkbed mattresses are for folks who weigh less than 130 lbs. They are limited in depth due to keeping kids from falling over rails when asleep. I have slept on both bunk mattresses quite comfortably. The futon in the downstairs family room is an optional bed. Futons are notably lumpier than standard mattresses, but those who are able to sleep well usually find futons restful. It is a relatively new futon. Of importance is that no other guests have ever made any comment about uncomfortable beds in this home. Furnishings are definitely dated and add to the charm of the home. This is a home where my own family loves to visit and it probably reflects that we are dated! The antique rocker is a family heirloom, but the cherry bedstead and beautiful bunkbeds are practically new. Overall the photos provide a good sense of the decor. I love the ambiance of the woodwork and furnishings and I believe this guest has markedly different taste than the owner. The home comes with a glass salt shaker and a wooden pepper mill in the kitchen (with fresh peppercorns). This guest purchased pre-filled plastic salt and pepper shakers for reasons I still do not understand. I'm glad the kitchen was sufficient. I worked hard to make this a modest but ambient living space, for those wanting a quieter beach experience close to many amazing adventures. I hope all guests have sweet dreams! Linda

Their roots hold the bank well, however, so I do appreciate their presence. You are the second guest to mention the firm beds. It is a challenging issue to get the mattresses we like to sleep on, in a vacation home. Firm mattresses are actually better for posture over the long run; both queen mattresses upstairs are different brands. There is a futon downstairs as an option, but futons are also rather firm. I'm glad you stated this, for those reading reviews. I will keep the mattresses as they are, as most people have not made any comment about discomfort. Again, thanks for visiting.
