We love sharing the beautiful apartment and outdoor landscape we’ve created by opening up our basement apartment to travelers. This apartment is completely private. It has a fully secure, independent entrance which you access through our backyard. There are no shared interior common areas as our two living spaces are separated by a staircase and two doors. We live upstairs and your apartment is downstairs with a garden level front door and patio.
Our midcentury modern neighborhood is safe, quiet, backs up to a nature conservancy yet is in the heart of the near west side of Madison. We’re just down the street from Hildale outdoor shopping area which includes Target, Whole Foods Market, many restaurants; U.W. Hospital, Picnic Point, and Epic are also very close by and it’s a quick drive to campus and downtown.
The apartment is 1000 square feet of open concept living. You will love the hot tub on your patio, extra large shower with a rain shower head, king size mattress, huge living room with a comfy sectional and cozy gas fireplace, 55in smart tv with Sonos surround sound, kitchenette with induction burner, microwave, fridge and freezer large enough for all your needs. The kitchenette is great for breakfast in the morning, with an induction burner for cooking eggs, bacon etc. It is NOT a full-size kitchen; if you’re booking for an occasion, be aware that the apartment is not equipped to prepare large meals.
Our home is on the bike route and bus rapid transit line. You can walk to our neighborhood bar, grab awesome Chinese food at our fave spot close by, and walk to our Saturday Westside Farmers Market. We’re 1.5 miles to the restaurant and shopping destination of Hildale, Target and Whole Foods, 2.5 miles to UW Hospital and Picnic Point, 2.5 miles to Lake Wingra boathouse where you can rent paddle boards and kayaks, 3.5 miles to Camp Randall, Trader Joe’s and Monroe Street, 4 miles to the Capitol Square and the Memorial Union, 6.5 miles to EPIC, 6.8 miles to The Sylvee, 12 miles to the cute town of Paoli & 25 miles to Devils Lake State Park. There are around 100 acres of woods to explore behind the house without driving anywhere. Just head out our back gate to explore the trails. You will often see turkey, deer and may hear coyote and owls calling at night. We have lived here for over 30 years and are more than happy to offer suggestions of where to eat, what to do, or to answer any other questions you might have.
Please take note:
-The apartment entrance is down flagstone steps and are uneven surfaces. There is no handrail to steady yourself. Please reference the photos to make sure of accessibility.
-Hosting friends and family for holidays, weddings, including wedding prep, photography, etc is considered an event and requires a booking inquiry and an extra charge before booking. -The apartment has many breakables and is not child-proofed, so we do not allow bookings with infants or children. -We have 2 large dogs and a cat that you’ll see hanging out in the backyard. They love visiting our guests for pets but aren’t allowed in the apartment for cleanliness/allergy reasons.
