Charming Cape Cod Private Beach Cottage at the Bay!

Do you want to experience old Cape Cod on your own beach? Our cottage is one of three in a row on PRIVATE Springhill Beach. This cottage is the third one back, less than 100 steps to the private beach on the bay with no roads to cross. Our cottage is clean and comfortable and has had some remodeling but retains some of our family history with the old fashioned original windows and some of the original furnishings. There is so much to explore in Sandwich, the oldest town on the Cape. Or just lounge around all day and enjoy a beach fire at night. Social distancing is not a problem here!

We enjoyed our stay in Sandwich. The host was accommodating. The cottage is simple but perfect for a simple relaxing family trip. There were others around but it felt very quiet and uncrowded. The road in was a little rough so take it slow. We enjoyed painting rocks and adding them to those of previous guests. But perhaps the best part of the cottage was the story of the history behind it!

Amazing beach cottage steps from the beach. The cottage was so cozy and perfect. The beach was breathtaking. We saw atleast 15 seals, many bunnies, and the sunsets were breathtaking. Jean was amazing. 5 stars!!

Quiet and cozy

Relaxing beachy vibe without any drama. Very peaceful with the sound of the waves and stars overhead.

The location to the beach is excellent, which is why we chose this cottage. The property has 3 cottages on it and this cottage was the furthest from the beach. The beach is private for the property. The shore is very rocky so we wore water shoes into the water. The cottage comes with 2 beach chairs that are shared with the 2 other cottages and were being used each time we went to the beach so we ended up buying chairs for our use. As far as the cottage itself, on the plus side, it was clean, the bed was comfortable, the WiFi worked well, and the mini-split did a fairly decent job of keeping the place cool (the temperature most days was in the 80’s and 90’s). And we did enjoy reading the information left about the family that built the house and still owns it. On the downside, the house and most of the furnishings are old and tired. A chair was broken (my husband fixed it) and the toaster was rusted. Even the brooms in the cottage’s only closet had seen better days. I’m sorry to give such a lukewarm review to this cottage as we really wanted to like it. But when you can’t open the windows because of the holes in the screens, it does take away from your enjoyment of being there.

We do our very best to describe our cottage accurately and encourage our tenants to let us know personally during the week if there is a problem. I was honestly unaware of any holes in the screens as I was opening windows with no problems a few weeks before this. Much of our furniture is antiques… things made or purchased 100 years ago by my ancestors. I mention this and it is all pictured in our photos. The vast majority of renters have a wonderful vacation, with many rebooking the following year, and leave messages such as this that we received yesterday: “Hi Jean. We are in. This place is absolutely charming. My husband teared up a bit and said it reminded him of the cottages his Nana used to rent as a kid. We are looking forward to the week.” We love sharing our place with those looking for a traditional beach cottage on Old Cape Cod. If that is what you are looking for we welcome you to spend a week… or two.

Peaceful private beach and just what we needed!

We had a wonderful week here in East Sandwich! We enjoyed the beach where often we were the only ones on and relaxed either at the cottage at night or ventured off. The area is very private, very quiet. The beach is a quick walk through a small path right from the cottage. I would recommend bringing water shoes for both adults and kids because there are areas on the beach where you will need them when heading down to the water. II also recommend wearing them in the water. Walking the beach in the morning is breathtaking. The stay was relaxing, peaceful and so enjoyable. We would definitely come back!

My husband and I are retired schoolteachers. We have 2 adult children and 4 grandchildren who all dearly love coming to our sweet cottage by the bay. We have all been coming since we were infants. We come now to just get away from the hustle and bustle of life. We overpacked clothes for many years but have now figured out all we really need to be sure we have are our swimsuits, some flips flops and a jacket in case it gets cool in the evening.

You should rent this cottage if you want to truly experience the ambience of old Cape Cod. We have updated our cottage in many ways but also have tried to keep much of what reminds us of those who passed it on to us. It is clean, beachy and comfortable. It is just a place to get away and enjoy the peace and beauty. The beach is private for quite a way in both directions. The restaurants and sandwich shops in the town are amazing. There is much history to be discovered as well. Sandwich is the first town on the Cape so you do not have to fight a lot of traffic getting there. If you want to explore the entire Cape you can drive out to the tip at Provincetown in just over an hour. Each town along the way is beautiful and unique.

I don't really need to say more except PRIVATE BEACH! You will not have to fight for a spot on the beach or worry about parking. You are there! The only people allowed on the beach in both directions are the owners and their guests.
