Beautiful log cabin 7 miles from Black Canyon National Park

Welcome to the South Rim Ranch! Just outside of the charming mountain town of Montrose Colorado and neighbors to the infamous Black Canyon National Park! The ranch is just 7 miles to the entrance of the National Park for hiking, world-class fishing, and the geographical wonders of the Gunnison Gorge of the Black Canyon. Our cabin has 1 bedroom, 1 bath downstairs, with a spacious sleeping loft upstairs. The front porch faces the spectacular Colorado sunset; early risers, view the sunrise over the Black Canyon with coffee on the back deck. Where you can spot herds of elk grazing across this lush valley. From the loft, there is a small deck, excellent for stargazing under the clear night sky or wildlife spotting. Mule-deer and elk roam the park right behind the cabin. Coyotes and red fox often hunt in the pasture below. Bald eagles, red-tail hawk make this their hunting ground in early spring. The cabin offers a full kitchen, equipped with everything you’ll need, along with a gas grill by the back deck, and a fire pit with plenty of wood for campfire cooking. . Hickory hardwood floors, and cabinetry, 9-ft aspen ceilings vault to 15 feet in open living area. The dining table can seat 5. Heat from gas fired stove and electric baseboard heating for cold nights. In the Master bedroom, there is a comfortable queen- sized bed. Upstairs, queen-sized sofa bed and a small twin bed tucked into its own alcove, perfect for a little one. If you have kids, they will love the ‘Kid’s Only Hide-Out’ upstairs. You are in the heart of outdoor recreation! In every direction the landscape changes and offers new opportunities as you explore. The Cimarron Mountains and the Black Canyon to your east, the famous San Juan Mountains to your south, the expansive Uncompahgre Plateau to your west, and the large flat top mountain in the country, the Grand Mesa to the north. All teeming with outdoor activities for the entire family! The South Rim Ranch is more than just a place to stay a few nights. Professional outfitters right next door offer horse-back riding/trail rides for the experienced rider or the tenderfoot. The Jones Draw trail leaves from right here on our ranch for over 10 miles of hiking trails. Two car garage to house your vehicle and all your extra gear. Come stay with us and experience the best that western Colorado has to offer!

We had to change our dates early on and they were very flexible and accommodating. The property was amazing and great for wildlife viewing.

Absolutely beautiful ranch! We stayed down in Durango for 5 nights and then drove up to Montrose and stayed at the Rim Ranch for 3 nights. Communications with the owner were always prompt, professional and courteous. The property was very clean & tastefully furnished. The sunsets from the front porch were breathtaking, as were the sunrises that we enjoyed on the back patio. We enjoyed watching the deer, and the cows in the field. The location is perfect for visiting the canyon & yet still close enough to town to be convenient. The area is full of beautiful ranches and irrigated fields. We can't say enough good things about the property! It was a true blessing to be able to stay here!

This cabin was an absolute delight. It was comfortable, well appointed, clean as a whistle and everything we had hoped it would be...and more. We did not expect the herd of deer grazing right in the yard. We had guests, so we gave them the main bedroom and slept in the loft, which was comfy and spacious. Also, the kitchen had very new appliances and all the pots/plates/gadgets you will need. But the VERY BEST thing about this cabin is the location. There is literally no place you could stay that would be this close to the Black Canyon entrance station...literally 7 easy miles. I also have to mention how responsive Alli was. We told her we lacked a flyswatter and had a pesty one. Literally 5 minutes later she was at our door with one, and we were able to meet her and Watson the dog. In short, we could not have been happier with our stay. If you are visiting the Black Canyon, I don't think you'll find a better place.

Stunning cabin and location!

We loved our stay here, the cabin was so lovely and the property was stunning. We did so much bird & deer watching and exploring, we never wanted to leave! Highly recommend!

Very nice log cabin.

Never stayed on VBRO, before but it is a beautiful experience to start. It’s a wonderful experience for a family bonding place where it’s a serene place to catch up on our busy days stories.

Great cabin!

We loved our stay at the cabin. It is absolutely beautiful and peaceful out there. Wish we had more time to just sit out on the patio and enjoy the view and wildlife! Definitely want to return sometime soon!

Montrose Cabin

This cabin is a slice of heaven, very clean, quiet, you see wildlife, fenced yard for our fur children, close to the black canyon and just a great place to stay and get away.

Black Canyon Retreat

We loved our stay at the South Rim Ranch! We saw so much wildlife and the cabin was a perfect place to relax each night after a day of sightseeing. Cabin had everything we needed and the hosts were very responsive. Thanks for sharing this great cabin!

Very peaceful cabin, great location

The cabin is comfortable and has everything you need. The proximity to Black Canyon was fantastic. A great place for night sky photography. We enjoyed hanging out on the front porch and back patio. If we are in the area again, we will stay here.

We are Reese and Alli, and the handsome pup in the photo is Watson. We've been married since 2016, that's also when we relocated from Arkansas to Western Colorado. Alli is an Orthodontic Assistant and Photographer where Reese is in the ranch brokerage industry, so he's delt with a lot of beautiful properties. We're so excited to finally have a little slice of Colorado ourselves and to share it with you!
