Stone Cottage on Portage Lake with Private Dock

Private Portage Lake frontage with Boat Dock directly across the street from this completely remodeled 2 bedroom "Stone Cottage," located in the heart of beautiful Onekama on M-22 Scenic Highway! This special place is close to everything, making it easy to plan your visit. Portage Lake is one of West Michigan's most beautiful fishing lakes and gives you direct access to Lake Michigan. There's a public boat launch just a block away! The Stone Cottage has private access to Portage Lake and Boat Dock! The dock is shared between guests of the Stone Cottage and The Contentment. The Stone Cottage is a two-bedroom that sleeps 4 people and the smaller of the two cottages. The Contentment is on the same parcel of land and the larger of the two cottages and sleeps 8 people. We mention the neighboring cottage so that our Guests are not surprised or confused when they see two stone houses. Children and infants are welcome; however, Parents/Guardians should plan on bringing what they need. No crib, highchair, baby gates, etc. for children or infants.


* Booking Policy: 3 night minimum.
* Payment Processing Fees are non-refundable and will be deducted from any refunded amount.
* Pet friendly! Pet Fee $45 applies. Charged after confirmed reservation.
1. Check-In starts at 4:00 pm and Check-Out by 10:00 am.
2. Quiet Hours: 11 pm to 7 am.
3. The person who makes the booking must be at least 25 years old and the booking individual must be part of the guest party that will occupy the rental property throughout the entire duration of the reservation.
4. No Events.
5. No Smoking.
6. Pets allowed within reason - $45 fee per pet. Charged after confirmed reservation. Pets must be secured on the Premises or on a leash at all times. Please no pets on beds or furniture. Thank you!
7. No fireworks or firecrackers.
8. Bonfires: Guests may have a fire in the designated fire pit only. Guests are prohibited from having a fire on the beach. Bonfires must be under the direct supervision of an adult at all times and must be extinguished prior to leaving the fire.
9. Property Care: Guests are asked to maintain the cleanliness of the property and are expected to report any damages or issues that occur during their stay.
10. Parking: Stone Cottage Guests park on the East side of the building on 1st Avenue where signs are posted. Overflow parking is on Main Street. Please do not park in the front driveway as that is reserved for the long-term tenant in lower level of Contentment. Street parking is first-come-first-served. Contentment guests (larger of the stone buildings) park directly behind Contenment and have four spaces.
11. Trash Disposal: Please place trash in receptacle outside.
12. Kayaks are for adult use only and are only meant to be used close to shoreline. Life jackets are to be worn during use and use of kayaks are at the users own risk.
13. Maximum Occupancy: Onekama township ordinance controls the maximum number of guests that may occupy a short-term rental dwelling overnight. The overnight occupancy rate for The Contentment is 8.
14. No Illegal Activities: Illegal activities are strictly prohibited on the property.
15. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
16. Respect for Neighbors: Guests will respect neighbors' privacy and property.
17. Wi-Fi Use: If Wi-Fi is provided and it must not be used for illegal activities.
18. Payment Processing Fees are non-refundable and will be deducted from any refunded amount.

Great location and cute place.

I loved the lake view and access. Kids loved being in town and biked everywhere. Bathroom is not luxury, but works. Over all a nice place to stay.

Needs Work

We stayed 3 nights with our well-behaved dachshund. The location is great—across from Portage Lake and close to a dog-friendly Lake Michigan beach (4-mile bike ride). However, Portage Lake had a terrible odor for two days, making it unpleasant to sit outside.The stone cottage and neighboring unit have charm but are poorly maintained. Grass was uncut, weeds everywhere, dirty furniture, and leftover debris around the property. The outdoor grill is a basic park-style one.Inside, the appliances were good and the kitchen functional, but the coffee maker didn’t work right, and basics like a vegetable peeler were missing. Lighting in the living room and bathroom was very dim. Rugs were stained, and some furnishings looked old or makeshift. No welcome book was provided, and the response to my request didn’t address the issue.The bathroom is tiny with poor shower pressure and mold on the curtain. No shelf in the shower or hair dryer provided. The king bed was comfy, but the comforter was too small, stained, and lumpy.Outdoor lake chairs were dirty and unusable. The home has great potential with small, inexpensive fixes—cleaning, better lighting, new rugs, and outdoor care. It could be lovely if given the attention it deserves.

Perfect Location w/ Dock!

As far as location, nothing beats this cottage. Walk across the road to your private boat dock, walk into town for breakfast or boutique shopping, and don't miss my personal favorite restaurant in all of Michigan, The Glenwood. The cottage was lacking a few basic items; bring your own (or perhaps the owner will add these) wine glasses, toaster, cutting board, and a larger coffee pot would be much appreciated! We had plenty of room in the side yard to park our truck & boat trailer. Launching at the city park is very close & convenient. Property manager Ken was a great communicator and very nice guy! We've been visiting Onekama for many summers, & have stayed at several rental properties and a local bed & breakfast, but this cottage was our favorite. Onekama is a beautiful village & we are looking forward to becoming community members!

WITH SOME ATTENTION IT WILL BE GREAT!

Cassandra the property manager is wonderful! Responsive and attentive to any concerns. Not on the water but a very short walk to a nice dock, which is directly across the street from property on a grass lot. A shed full of kayaks and flat boards. Water 5 feet or so In most of the area around Dock. Was able to walk out over a hundred yards with feet touching the bottom. We do have a list of concerns shared with Cassandra. Some of the items listed you may never notice, some you may want added to the list of “to dos.” Check with Cassandra about our list provided 8/23/24. With our list of things that need attention being completed, I think it will be a good value. As it is we did not realize the value. Good Luck.
