The Artists Retreat was perfect for our family of three. The house was immaculate and comfy, the back yard was great, and walks, hikes, and swimming sposts were varied, beautiful, and nearby. We had a great time.

*Classic Maine farmhouse which has been beautifully restored and decorated. *Large private backyard fenced in for our dogs. Very quiet and peaceful. *Excellent communication with our host!

The house was fabulous. The most “well stocked” house we ever stayed in. The house was clean and very homey.One suggestion that should be on the listing…” there is no driveway.” You have to park across the road. Not a far walk, but we arrived after 9:30pm and it was raining. We had no idea where to park and unload. When you get in the house the directions say “no driveway” and to park on his lot across the street. A “heads up” ahead of arrival is important. Also, kind of old school, but non the less…he mails the keys to you USPS. Very nice stay!! You will not be disappointed. Very relaxing!! A beautiful property.

Beautiful 1700’s farmhouse with furnishings to match. A very cozy and welcoming space. So glad we found Mr Clarke, an absolute pleasure.

A Lovingly Restored Maine Farmhouse

The owners of this property have invested a lot of thought and care in their ongoing efforts to restore this house. The kitchen was well appointed, the linens good ones and garden pleasant. We throughly enjoyed our stay.

By far the best place we’ve ever stayed. It was clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. The kitchen was very easeful to cook in and had everything we needed. Location was great, easy entry and lots of nearby amenities and fun things to do. TEN stars, honestly. Just wonderful all around, didn’t want to leave we had such a good stay. THANK YOU Steven. Hopefully we’ll be back.

The property was comfortable, and the owner was very helpful. The backyard was fenced, which was great for my dog. The bedrooms need ceiling lights as they were too dim in the evening. The owner provided most everything one would need, but the place was much too cluttered, which cuts down on available space for guests.

A Perfect Getaway

Returning to Maine, we wanted a comfortable home base from which to explore. We loved the rustic charm of this house - it had all the comforts and modern amenities we needed, while feeling cozy and relaxed. It felt like an “old soul” with “deep wisdom.” We are eager to imagine a return to the area and this house.

Perfect stay for those loving older houses and nature

My husband and I are both biologists and we loved this house and yard. The fencing provided a secure area for our midsized dog and she loved it. We normally stay on the quiet side of Acadia but loved the opportunity to explore the Schoodic and the local trails at this location. The hosts were great at responding quickly! We would definitely return to this quiet, homey house!

Quiet and relaxing home get away

We loved the house, with its open floor plan and country feel. The area was quiet and the stars magnificant at night. No problems to report. The owner is quick to respond to any issues and address them. The location is well suited to hiking trails accessible from the house, and swimming ponds and lakes are nearby so you don’t have to drive far to have fun. We enjoyed our visit very much.

A perfect place to stay while in Acadia

It was our first time in Acadia and this cottage was the perfect spot to explore from and to return to each day. It’s on a quiet road with beautiful grounds (including a large fenced-in yard, which our pup loved). The cottage is beautifully appointed, comfortable, and full of thoughtful and tasteful touches. Steve was a gracious host, quick to respond, and the property has everything you need for a long or short stay (we were there for a week). We loved being away from the hustle and bustle of Desert Island in August. The Schoodic Peninsula provides easy access to all the major sights and has many worthwhile attractions of its own. Highly recommended… we were sad to leave and would rebook this gorgeous home in a heartbeat.

Five Happy Days and Nights.

We stayed with our adult children and were thrilled to wake up each morning in the gracious and casually beautiful Cape Cod house with lots of light and views of Maine typography, pine trees, fields, and very pretty flowers. There was a sense of privacy and peacefulness as well as spaciousness for each of us to spread out to talk, to read, to cook and to eat. The kitchen was excellent for cooking and shared meals. We hope to return. The house is only a few minutes drive from Frenchman’s Bay. There are trails for hiking just off Punkinville Road which is used by high school track students. Being able to visit with dear friends who who live nearby made the visit perfect.

Return to cherished summer vacation AirB&B

Staying in the Spacious and beautiful cape cod, on a quiet road minutes away from Frenchmen’s Bay, we loved the privacy of the house and yard. The two Adirondack Chairs in the enclosed backyard were the perfect place for reading or conversation when we wanted to enjoy the sun and breeze. (Note: the stones steps from the back door are uneven and can be treacherous). The two beds were cozy and comfortable. The living room, and most of the house is bright with sunlight, (though the lamps did not provide adequate light for reading in the evening). Our family and visiting friends gathered comfortably in the main living area and shared a meal in the generous, well stocked kitchen. The kitchen is a dream for people who love to cook. Though we were four adults, only towels for two were provided. That may have been my mistake when I registered. Our children expressed to us their gratitude for inviting them to share our vacation in this house and location, next door to beloved friends.

Beautiful Old Farmhouse

I loved everything about this home, the road it's on and the surrounding area. Close enough to Bar Harbor and Acadia to make day trips easy, yet at the end of the day you get to escape the crowds and come back to a place so peaceful and inviting that you feel like you really have come home. From the country kitchen, the comfortable bedrooms, the large, yet cozy, living room, the owners have created a space so charming I never wanted to leave. The home is beautifully decorated. I felt like I had stepped back in time, you could feel the history, the generations who lived there and all the love that the owners have put into maintaining that feeling. The fenced in yard and private courtyard were a huge bonus. Our dog was in heaven. The only minor inconvenience was that there was no WIFI when we arrived due to a power outage from a storm that passed through the day before. In order to get back on line in a timely fashion the owner asked us to buy a router and he will reimburse us. This was unfamiliar territory for all of us, as this had never happened to him or us. We did manage to purchase a router and get WIFI back, though I would rather not have spent vacation time doing this. But storms happen and it was nobody's fault. The rest of our time in Maine was wonderful and this home was the perfect place to return to after a day of adventuring around the area.

Perfect Maine Getaway

We could not have been happy with Steven's house. It was even better than pictured, if that's possible. The house was clean, beautifully decorated, with a well stocked kitchen. As writers, we wanted proximity to Acadia without the crowds, and this place was just the ticket! We thoroughly enjoyed our days hiking and writing, and then making dinner and building a fire in the cozy wood stove on chilly autumn evenings. Our Norwich Terrier was also in heaven: there is a lovely 2 mile loop in the Nature Preserve down the street, and a whole flock of wild turkeys made twice daily appearances. We would rent this house again in a heartbeat! As other reviewers mentioned, the Dunbar Store is great for quick groceries. The local wine shop has limited hours: we took advantage of days in Acadia/Bar Harbor to get more substantial groceries at the Hannaford, and stock up at the wine shop in town.

Sublime time in this Sullivan home!

Charming, historic yet comfortable house in Sullivan Maine provided us with the perfect bolthole to rest and relax after exploring the many natural wonders of Down East. Our doggie loved it too! Be sure to visit the Dunbar grocery store for fresh old fashioned donuts in the morning and a vaviety of provisions (lobsters too!) for a charming yet unpretentious local experience.

Sullivan

The rental process was so easy and the host responded promptly to all my questions. The house was in a nice location, close to restaurants, shopping, hiking, the ocean. We brought our 2 dogs along and we thoroughly enjoyed the fenced in yard. It was very private and relaxing. The house was great, tastefully decorated and had everything you could possibly need. It’s such a beautiful property and also a great place for stargazing.Steven was a very responsive host. If you need a place to relax and enjoy nature, this is it! We saw deer, turkeys and what we think was a bear cub. Loved it!

Peaceful and quiet

This place was perfect in many ways. Location was close enough to everything we wanted to see and do, and the property was perfect for us. The second we walked in, I didn't want to leave! So quiet and relaxing. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend this property!
