• Hvorfor nøjes med et hus væk fra vandet? Dette hus ligger lige overfor gaden fra Richardsons Beach Park. Hjem med den bedste snorkling i East Big Island. Hilo tilbyder få steder at nyde havet. Disse specielle steder er altid strandparker.
• Klassisk hawaiisk arkitektur med moderne bekvemmeligheder.
• Udenfor siddepladser på dækket med udsigt over Syd Hilo-bugten. Terrasse med stort bord og 6 stole foran.
• Huset inkluderer gratis brug af kajak, stand up paddle board, boogie boards, snorkel gear.

• Soveværelser nr. 1 og # 2 - Samme niveau som stue / køkken. Begge soveværelser deler hovedbadeværelset loftventilatorer i hvert soveværelse.
• Soveværelse # 3: Under hovedhuset adgang fra bagsiden af huset med separat udvendig dør. Der er ingen intern trappe. Dette er et stort soveværelse med en queensize-seng, natbord, loftsventilator, kvalitetsmadrasser og sengetøj. Soveværelset har også en liggestol med en trillebed under dagesengen. Dette soveværelse har et tilknyttet badeværelse.

This charming little home was perfect for our group of 3 couples having a quick staycation in Hilo. We love Keaukaha, and the location right across from the ocean is spectacular. Had everything we needed, and checking in and out was an absolute breeze. We'd book again in a heartbeat

The beautifully salty breezes were a comfort the last few days we spent on the island after we sold our Hilo home. The host replied very quickly to my booking request and he was kind about letting our pet stay.The home is a beach stay dream! Kayaking, BBQ, lanai with a table. The view of Richardson Beach was my favorite. We love Richardson Beach for the best snorkeling on Hilo side. I can't wait to book again when we come visit our family.Mahalo

Wonderful Ocean View

It was delightful, wonderful view and great parking! This is a home from the early 1900's with lots of character. Close to town and so many beaches. Easy 45 min drive to Volcanoes Nat'l Park- Great location on the Hilo side of the Big Island.

Wake up to Surfers

We loved Richard’s house! You wake up and know you’re in Hawaii, with a great view of the beach and lush vegetation surrounding you. The place was clean, well furnished and well equipped. Would definitely stay again!

Fantastic trip!

We had an amazing experience in Hilo, made better by this property. Across the street from a wonderful beach, close (with a car) to downtown. The house had everything we needed for cooking, cleaning, sleeping, and relaxing in Hawaii. Hopefully we can return soon!

Perfect relaxing beach location

We loved this property. Directly across the street from beautiful beach and short drive to shops and restaurants in Hilo. Very peaceful and not in touristy location. We felt like we experienced the true Hawaiian vibe there. The property manager was very accommodating to our requests and included all necessary beach gear: water shoes, snorkels, beach chairs, etc.

So much fun!

The house was great—a clean, older home that was fixed up nicely. All amenities were provided, including a huge number of beach toys, kayak and another boat. The family loved the snorkeling right across the street at Robinson State Park. We snorkeled 3-4 times every day. Loved it!

The House was cute. It surved our purpose. It could use one good cleaning. lots of dust on all window sills and any surface that is not in direct contact with people using the place. Beds, showers and kitchen were clean. Kitchen utlities for BBque and house were great. The Boogie Boards were for little kids so my teen agers were unable to use them. as far as Kyaks and surfboards they were non existant. the one surfboard looked as if it was so waterlogged it would sink and was missing a fin. the one small Kyak that was there was unusable.

Hi Michelle, Thanks for the review. We looked at the kayak and paddle board and you are correct. I feel horrible that you saw this before we did. New ones are on their way. The same is true for boogie boards. We should have had adult ones there and they are on their way. If you would have told us as soon as you noticed we would have rushed them to you. But we are happy you told us so the next guests have what we promised them.

wonderful location and friendly cats

We loved the location of this property. Walking across the street to snorkel at Richardson was wonderful. We enjoyed the ocean breezes inside and also spent time outside on the deck with its great view of the ocean. The two cats were welcome (outside!). One night they received a treat of leftover Ono fish from the Hilo Bay Cafe. We now have cat friends for life!

Amazing view and location

We had a great stay in this home and were very grateful for the immediate responses we received from the owner about a few items. We loved watching people surf and paddle board from the front porch and my three-year old loved the kitties that hang out there. We also saw a little black pig almost every day which was fun. The house had more than enough towels, toys and beach equipment that made our stay easy. We also really liked the black sand beach across the street and did some exploring on the rocks. If you are hoping to be in Hilo and near the airport this spot is perfect!

Family Trip to Hilo

Our family of 6 adults stayed at the Surf Rider house across from Richardson's Beach Park and had the trip of a lifetime. The house was clean, had everything we needed, and was very comfortable for our group. The house was the perfect place from which to explore the east side of the island, and we took several scenic drives, ate at great restaurants, went to Pahoa, and to VNP. But the best part was watching the waves and whales from the porch. A week wasn't long enough, and we hope to return soon. Richard was an excellent host!

Hilo Family Excursion

The property's location and cleanliness were good. The property itself needed some minor upkeep including paint touchups inside and out (one window on back had no trim paint), the outside patio table had some broken issues, one ceiling fan had no option to keep the fan on but light off because pull chain was gone, etc. Nothing was a deal killer. We loved the location and the the house itself was comfortable, clean, and nicely stocked.

I get some odd reviews - like this. I don't know which window doesn't have "trim paint." or what issues the teak patio table has. We just installed new flooring throughout, some new doors, plumbing and fixtures. I guess there is always something to find.

Best location on the island!

You cannot beat this location and the property is exactly as listed. We really appreciated all of the "extra" swim supplies and while traveling with my mom she loved having her own "unit" she could retreat to in the evenings. The houses are not new and they are on the water so of course there is a lot of "wild life" which includes turtles directly across the street! We had a few small issues and the customer service was TOP NOTCH. The owner responded right away and kept checking in which was nice. Recommend and will be back. Cannot wait to see this view again!

Watch whales from the lanai

This house is in a great location, incredibly clean, and well appointed with everything we needed. The check in process couldn't have been easier with the coded entry. The house could easily accommodate two families with the ohana unit downstairs. Unfortunately, one of us (all seniors) had a medical issue during our stay, but both the owner and the property manager were supportive and very responsive to our needs. We definitely appreciated their concern.I used to live in Hawaii and know this is one of the best vacation rentals on the Hilo side. You won't be disappointed...and you might even see whales from the lanai like we did on several occasions. Mahalo, Richard

4th of July holiday

The house is beautiful and was perfect for our family, the newlyweds got the room with the seperate entrance and the 4 of us slept on the main floor. Everything we could have needed was provided and we left some extra water shoes and snorkel gear for future renters. Coming from the AZ dry heat it did take a night to acclimate to not having AC in the house but after that we had no problems and really enjoyed the breeze from open windows. The cats would come by often and were well loved by our kids. We will gladly rent from you again! Thank you Richard!

Great location for Snorkling, Noisy at night

This is a beautiful location, especially for snorkeling or swimming but it is noisy at night. Lots of people, trucks, roosters making it hard to sleep. The house needs some tlc and the cats that hang out use the area by the backdoor for a bathroom so its smelly. We did not understand that to get to the second bathroom and the third bedroom required going outside and down stairs to the basement level. No connection inside the house to the basement level.

A 3 star review is so disappointing. It is rare that there is noise from the Beach Park at night. Especially late. The house has been remodeled with new kitchen and baths so I don't understand the TLC comment. The listing clearly states the lower bedroom/bath has only an exterior exit. Everyone loves the cat from the comment book. The guests just got unlucky with beach park noise.

Great location but home requires some maintenance

A deep clean of the full place should be done. The inside of the kitchen cupboards were not clean. The screen door to the deck should be replaced as you had to fight to open & close it. Needs some TLC.

After your stay we did see that termites left evidence in one of the cabinets. It isn't due to any cleaning shortfall and we will treat the cabinet. The patio slider will be replaced. With the salty air they don't last long. Thanks for bringing these items to our attention. If that is the worst one could find on a 6 day stay, I would have rated the stay at 5 stars.

Stellar Location & House

This house is in a stellar location with the captivating view of the ocean. And the home is well-appointed (everything you can think of, and more) with any item you’ll need or want. The large kitchen is beautiful and easy for more than one person to be in there. And it has a gas stove, with quality pots & pans! We loved being able to cook and eat on the patio overlooking the ocean. We encountered a small issue and Richard quickly responded and instructed us how to resolve it. The washer and dryer on premises was such a blessing! And all supplies were neatly provided (detergent, basket, etc). The beds were comfortable and the location was so quiet. It’s a gem. We still dream of our stay at this house! Our stay was very comfortable and smooth. It felt like we were borrowing a good friend’s house! Thanks Richard!

Location, location, location!

Surfrider house is exactly as advertised. Clean bedrooms and comfortable beds, and excellent access to Richardsons Beach as well as within walking distance to other amazing parks along the road. The owner is quick to respond to any inquiries, and accommodated both our early arrival and late departure. The clean kitchen and clean bathrooms are stocked with everything you need. Did I mention this place is clean?! (Kudos to the housekeeping staff!!) Note the second bathroom and third bedroom are a separate entrance, not connected to the main living area. It was an added layer of privacy! We absolutely appreciated the well-stocked snorkel gear, booties, beach chairs & toys. So many positives about this sweet place! Perhaps my favorite was the ease of check out…“feel free to start a load of towels, or don’t. This is your vacation after all!”

Owner of 5 homes directly across from Richardson's Beach Park and 3 ocean front homes in Paradise Park. I manage these homes personally with my cell number available to all guests. Payments are handled through the security of the Homeaway/VRBO site. Guests also receive information on restaurants, shopping and my favorite places to visit.

Before I bought these homes I stayed as a guest. That was 7 years ago and my first time to Hilo. After paying too much for air fare and a rental car, it made sense to pay a little extra to stay in a great location. A wise choice. We loved it so much we bought the property we were staying at - a few doors down from this house. We have kept on buying them as they have come to market. This place rivals any place on earth, as you will find out.

If you plan on staying more than a couple days, you will have to enjoy the location. If you love the water and especially snorkeling, you will not find a better location. The best snorkling is in just a few feet of water right in front of the black sand beach. It is like swimming in a tropical fish store. Green sea turtles come to rest for the night in the evening at the rocks just beyond the black sand beach. The water is largely sheltered by the rocks creating a partial lagoon. Yet this house is just down the street from Downtown Hilo. Great for quick trips out to eat, shopping and many tourist locations. Review the "Location" tab for a list of over 20 great places to see.
