Donatella is amazing

We had a wonderful stay. Property is great. Donatella is the highlight of the property. From the day we checked in she was so welcoming and helpful. She hosted a pizza night and dinner and both were amazing.

Very nice house. We had a superb time playing tennis and swimming, playing table tennis, cooking, Kids loved it, too! Thank you!

We had an extraordinary week- the amenities were top notch, kitchen well-appointed, lots of room to spread out or hang out together. Clear, specific instructions for things. Beds are comfortable and there were plenty of fans to move the air. A few things we learned: mosquitoes are present in the evening and they are fast.. citronella and spray helped. They were not bothersome at night even with the windows wide open. We drank a lot of water because of the heat-be prepared to buy a lot of bottled water. There are about 170 steps up to the beautiful pool- plan your items carefully to avoid several trips down to the house! Tennis- the shrubs suck balls in and are reluctant to give them back- bring lots of extras so that you can continue play and then dig for balls after the match.

Fantastic week in La Pianella Villa

We had a fantastic time in La Pianella Villa. We were 14 people in total (2 kids) and there was plenty of room for us. We enjoyed the fantastic pool, table tennis, tennis court and beautiful surroundings. The house is gorgeous and the whole place is very quiet. It was a challenge for one of our family's to drive up the steep road with a caravan car but when they arrived it was plenty of space to park it. The weather was great and it was good that all rooms had fans since it was quite warm. The large bedroom with 4 beds upstairs, over the kitchen, would need an air conditioning though. I really recommend this beautiful house and many thanks to Donatella and Clare for your hospitality. Katarina from Stockholm

Memories for a lifetime

Hard to summarize how our week at La Pianella exceeded expectations, from the beauty of the home and how well it for our large family, the meals enjoyed on both terraces, the fun in the pool and tennis court, and maybe best of all the Pizza party with Donatella and a meal she prepared for us later in the week. We were even greeted by the property owner and given some history on the estate and the life that has been documented in a work of fiction by former UK political figures. The steep road up to the estate is no joke, and we had two large 8 passenger vans. So confident drivers or arranged transport is a big help. But it is well worth the adventure and once you are there, you'll find little reason to leave.

Stedet er dejligt værten var fremragendeHuset er lidt slidt trænger til en renovering og aircondition Derfor kun tre stjerner på prisen. Man bør nok gøre opmærksom på, at adgangen til poolen ikke er for gangbesværede idet der er over 100 trin i forskellige højder.

Allt var så välordnat och bra! Dock fanns ingen airkondition men många fläktar. Swimmingpoolen det fanns både bordtennis o tennis bana. Husvärden var mycket trevlig o hjälpsam. Rekommenderas till en stor familj

Sehr schönes Anwesen in ruhiger Lage, gut als Ausgangaspunkt für Unternehmungen.

Villa Pianella ist wunderschön gelegen, die Zufahrt ist etwas schwierig. Die Zimmer waren sehr sauber und gut vorbereitet. Ein Willkommenskorb in der Küche hat uns gefreut! Allerdings war das Geschirr z.T. schlecht gespült und die Töpfe schmutzig. Aber Donatella war bei allen Problemen sofort da und sehr hilfsbereit.

Traumhafte Toskana Villa in den Bergen

Die Villa ist traumhaft und liegt sehr schön und exklusiv in den Bergen. Wir waren eine Gruppe von Freunden und haben insbesondere den tollen Pool, die Tennisanlage (sehr gut gepflegt!) und den Garten genutzt. Die Villa ist sehr gut ausgestattet und bietet genügend Raum für so viele Leute. Die Kommunikation mit Donatella war einfach super- genau wie ihr Pizzaabend! Wir hatten traumhafte 7 Tage und überlegen schon, wann wir wieder kommen. Grazie a tutti!

Absolutely beautiful house surrounded by the vegetations.

We had an amazing stay in this beautiful house surrounded by trees and vegetation. The surroundings are very calm. Everything works fine and if there's a problem, Donatella is always available for you, with the smile. By the way, she did an excellent diner for us. The pool and the tennis court are just perfect to enjoy the Italian sun. My friends and I really recommend this beautiful house and many thanks to Donatella and Clare for the hospitality. Richard S.

Lovely villa in the Tuscan Hills

We enjoyed our stay at La Pianella very much. The owners were very responsive to all questions/concerns. Donatella's cooking is wonderful and lived up to other exceedingly positive reviews. While the pool is gorgeous, I think it's important to note that it's at the top of a hill with quite a few steps. Not a problem for us, but something to consider for less mobile guests. The location is roughly 20 mins from Lucca which is perfect. There's also a decent market and a few restaurants in the village less than 10 mins away. Thank you Mary Ann and Clare for your sharing your beautiful property.

Gorgeous villa

We were part of a large group who had rented both the Villa and the adjacent farmhouse. The location is absolutely gorgeous, with amazing views out over the valley. Both houses were incredibly well looked after, very well equipped, bedrooms were made up beautifully and both houses were very clean, neat and tidy. Donatella, who looks after the houses for the owner, was incredibly helpful and attentive, an absolute delight to be dealing with. We didn't need it during our stay, but you can even arrange for her to come up and cook! I couldn't recommend this place highly enough!

Beautiful Villa & Amazing Extended Family Holiday

We would highly recommend the beautiful La Pianella Villa. Our extended family (6 adults, 8 children ages 6 - 14) spent a wonderful week at the Villa this summer. The Villa and surrounding grounds were exceptionally clean and well maintained. The grounds around the Villa were filled with beautiful plants and flowers. The location provided beautiful views of the surrounding areas. There were many activities at the Villa to keep everyone happy, between the pool, tennis courts, ping pong table and several beautiful patios (also TV and books inside). We had to force ourselves to leave the Villa during the week for a few lovely day trips. Luca, Pisa, Florence and beautiful beaches were all easily accessible for day trips. Clare and Mary-Ann were wonderful in helping us arrange our visit and answering any questions we had. They checked in on us during our stay to make sure everything was going well. There was also a lots of helpful information at the Villa regarding grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants and local attractions. They even provided a number for an English speaking doctor, which we needed during our stay. A highlight of our visit was the wonderful cooking provided by Donatella and her daughter Sonia. We cannot say enough kind words about their wonderful cooking and kindness to our family! Thank you very much to Clare and Mary-Ann for sharing their beautiful Villa with our family. And many thanks to Donatella and Sonia for sharing their wonderful food. We travel with our extended family every summer, but I don't think we will ever top our amazing week at La Pianella!

A lasting memory of a perfect holiday with family

For a family reunion we have stayed at villa La Pianella with 12 adults and 6 children. La Pianella is perfect for this occasion. It breathes a very welcome and relaxing atmosphere for everyone. The kitchen is excellent and very complete! Spacious and clean are the bedrooms and most of them have their own bathroom. Even the cut-flowers in the house are refreshed during the week. The garden and tennis court surroundings are very beautiful i.e. the wisteria in the tree and the wild flowers on the hill. For some of our family the first ride to the villa by car/camper was a thrill. The villa and facilities were the reason we’ve spent most of our holiday in and round the house. The tennis court was used intensively. We did go to Pisa via back roads and to Lucca for some culture and shopping. At Pasticceria Dolcevita we have bought delicious birthday cakes. At the villa we enjoyed most of our meals. The homemade pizza but also the dinner Donnatella prepared for us. She’s stunning indeed! We would love to come back to the villa for another reunion! Thank you very much Clare and Mary-Ann for giving us good care and memories.

Heaven on a Tuscan Hillside

We have stayed at both the Villa and the Farmhouse on various occasions, and were always extremely happy to be there -- and sad to leave! Perfect for getting together with groups of friends or for family reunions, the villa and farmhouse also offer plenty of space for those who want a quiet corner to relax in peace and quiet. All one could want is on the property (swimming pool, tennis court, books), and, though we did go to Lucca (cycling around the city wall, clothes shopping), and to other surrounding towns for little outings (great market in San Martino in Freddana), we preferred just to stay at the villa and relax by the pool, or to walk along the winding roads in the area. What a relaxing, nurturing place! We will definitely be back!

Beautiful La Pianella

I had a wonderful stay here at La Pianella. Within an hour of arriving I had left my London worries behind me and I was sat relaxing on the terrace of this fabulous villa, with a gin and tonic in hand! Every morning I would climb the 99 steps up to the inviting pool, and in the early evening I would play a vigorous game of tennis - I have never played on a court in such a stunning location. The court is nestled into the hillside, and I am told that in the spring the colourful wisteria hangs from the trees and hugs the court. Day trips in to Lucca are a must. It has so much history to devour and the beauty is as you would expect of an ancient Tuscan town. My stay here was relaxing, educational and full of Tuscan cheer, my only regret is that I could not stay longer. You must visit here to appreciate it's beauty, as they say 'seeing is believing'.

La Pianella Villa and Farmhouse.

I have hired both these lovely houses and with my friends, had wonderful holidays.The location is a hilltop with beautiful views of the wooded hills and villages surrounding. You can watch the smoke from a tiny fire rise in a column in the still morning air whilst sitting on the terrace enjoying breakfast in the sun or shade.The Villa is a classical house with all modern amenities. Each bedroom is different with terraces and balconies, comfortable beds and interestingly tiled bathrooms. The Farmhouse is a modern reconstruction,very tastefully designed and decorated.I have enjoyed the facilities and had no problems.There are people who would help out willingly if needed. The road that winds it's way up the hillside is steep and has sharp bends but we had no problems with it. There is a super swimming pool and an all weather tennis court where even the least sporty members of our parties have joined in our tennis tournaments.I like painting and have found plenty of delightful subjects,as have many previous guests who have donated their work to grace the walls. In the evenings we have baked our own pizzas in the traditional ovens with the dough bought from the baker or supermarket in the village below. It's lovely to eat on the terrace in the evening enjoying the company whilst watching the fireflies and listening to the cicadas. There are plenty of restaurants in villages around,from small and charming family run to grand and expensive.All we have tried have been welcoming.Our best meals have been those we have cooked together as a team. We love Lucca. A favourite City (lots to paint!).Just watching the world go by with a gorgeous chocolate or Italian speciality dish is all you need between visiting the stylish shops and museums or taking a walk or bicycle ride around the city walls A trip to the Opera is a romantic essential. We took the service bus to Florence. Why take the car ?I can't remember any thing that we needed. I wish we could stay all spring and Autumn. I don't go in Summer as I don't like the heat but I believe the mountain air makes the temperature agreeable and there's always the nice swimming pool! We have taken different friends.All had a great time.I can't think of any draw-backs.

Beautiful House

I highly recommend this wonderful house. Amazing views, very helpful owners in a very nice part of the world. Close enough to Lucca for day visits and very private. We had a very memorable stay. On a practical note, the house was clean and well maintained, gardens were pretty and the tennis court was great.

Wij verbleven hier met 5 gezinnen in de zomer van 2010. Wat een prachtige locatie!!! Een geweldig zwembad, de mooiste tennisbaan die ik ooit heb gezien en een heerlijk sfeervol huis. Samen met onze vrienden hebben we de vakantie van ons leven gehad. Onze kinderen (tussen 8 en 12 jaar) vermaakten zich ook prima met tafeltennis, badminton, tennis en natuurlijk het zwembad. Bij het zwembad staat een huisje met een koelkast zodat je niet steeds naar het huis moet, dus van alle gemakken voorzien. In de keuken is alles aanwezig om geweldig te koken. Wij zijn echte kookliefhebbers en we kwamen niks te kort. De villa bevind zich op een kwartiertje van Lucca dus dat is ook lekker dicht bij voor een dagje cultuur snuiven. Al met al een heerlijke villa op een top locatie.

roughly translated....."Taste Tuscany" "We stayed here with five families in the summer of 2010. What a great location! A great pool, the best tennis I've ever seen and a nice cozy house. Together with our friends we have the vacation of our life . Our children (between 8 and 12 years) enjoyed themselves greatly with table tennis, badminton, tennis and a swimming pool. There is a pool-house with a refrigerator so you do not need to go to the house as well equipped. In the kitchen, everything is great for cooking. We have real food lovers and we left nothing to short. The villa is located on a fifteen minutes from Lucca so that's nice and close for a day of sniffing culture. All in all a lovely villa a great location. " Thank you to all your families for being our enthusiastic guests and it sounds like you all had a fantastic time!
