Location is perfect! Cabin is very comfy, sitting out on the deck relaxing was our favorite spot to be when not at Pinecrest. Host is amazing! He is on top of getting back to you right away if you have any questions or needs.

We got to the house a few minutes after the 3pm check-in time. The cleaning crew was still there. We waited about 5 minutes and then we were told they were done Watch out for the cob webs. The entire place is funished with everything pre-1980. The primary bedroom has no toilet or shower. The yellow shag carpet in the primary bdrm was at least 40years old. The Berber loop carpet in the living room was at least 40years old. It was sprawled out in the living room over 50year old red asbestos tiles. Everything is old and outdated except when something breaks or becomes inoperative then it’s fixed such as the primary bedroom faucet. There is also a noticeable musky smell in the kitchen area. The electric kitchen stainless trash receptacle is inoperable. I won’t go on criticizing the place since we got a couple hundred dollar discount off the original asking price. The location was fine as described.

The property is well located for access to Pinecrest Lake and area activities which was our primary goal. While it had the bedrooms and bathrooms we needed, the house sadly shows its age (50 yrs) which makes me think the pictures posted were taken many years earlier. And, none of the pictures showed the empty cardboard boxes, misc. hoses, sleds, trash cans and snowplow located in the bottom room or the old furniture and boxes against the outside of the house! Clearly this house is in need of general maintenance, updating and cleaning. The owner was very prompt in responding to my messages of concern and seemed genuinely surprised by and apologetic for the issues we encountered. However no corrective actions were taken during our stay. VRBO might consider improving home listings by adding more details on items such as those below given that some renters may have mobility issues:1. Driveways: This one is narrow and steep, requiring backing down or backing up.2. Parking limitations: This house holds 2 cars on the steep driveway.3. Stairs: The two flights inside are very narrow and steep. Outside there were six stairs to get to the ground floor and another flight to get to the front door.4. Location of bedrooms and bathrooms; e.g. bath and bedroom on ground floor, bath and bedroom on main floor.I have used VRBO many times. This house could be great but is currently not worth the rental rate.

We chose this neighborhood because Strawberry offers a rare sense of timeless mountain peace that is getting harder to find. It’s a place where the air smells like cedar and pine, and the pace of life naturally slows down the moment you turn off Highway 108.
What we love most about the scene here:
• The "All-Season" Advantage: We love that we don't have to choose between a "ski cabin" and a "lake house." Being just 10 minutes from Dodge Ridge and 5 minutes from Pinecrest Lake means this neighborhood is vibrant and beautiful 365 days a year.
• The River Connection: Having the Stanislaus River winding through the community adds a layer of tranquility. We love being able to take a short walk to the water’s edge or visit the historic Strawberry Inn for a meal by the river.
• The Stargazing: Because the neighborhood is tucked away from major city lights, the night sky here is breathtaking. One of our favorite things to do is sit on the deck and look at the Milky Way—it’s a level of clarity you just can't get in the valley.
• A True Basecamp: This neighborhood feels like a hidden gateway. You’re close enough to the action of Leland Snow Play and the Summit Loop trails, but when you come back to Georges Drive, it feels like your own private sanctuary.
In short, we chose Strawberry because it captures the "Classic California Cabin" experience perfectly. It’s a community built on outdoor adventure and quiet mountain evenings, and we wanted to be right in the heart of it.
