Charming

Charming retreat in the jungle, high above the business of the beach. We loved the porch area and yard. Path to top of mountain was a great walk to view "whales tale". Paula was very accommodating. We would return. Mark & Debi Feb 2018

Toucans!

My partner Maryse and I really enjoyed the views of the lush valley vistas...almost every afternoon during our week's stay there would be at least one, and once there were 5, toucans in the trees...no more that 60 metres from the house! And of course there were the sounds of the howler monkeys at daybreak...our hosts Marty & Paula were great...welcoming yet respecting our space...the 15 minute drive up into the hills from Uvita requires a small 4x4 vehicle but is well worth it, for the privacy and the cool nights for sleeping...it became our daily ritual when driving across the small brook to stop and stick our feet into the cooling water. There is also a beautiful waterfalls within 10 min's drive from the house that has a large & deep basin, ideal for a cooling off swim...be prepared however for a bracing but refreshing dip! Thank you Marty & Paula for allowing us to enjoy your amazing casa...Pura Vida et Bon Chance! Martin & Maryse New Brunswick, Canada

Absolutely Fantastic

I had a wonderful experience staying with Paula and Marty at Casa Antigua in Uvita last week January 13th to January 19th, 2018. The house is a lovely, clean, well maintained, and very comfortable. It is nested in 60 acres of natural gardens and lush habitat for many types of wild life and plants. Since this was my first trip to Costa Rica, I was looking forward to experiencing the true lifestyle in the central American rainforest. This hose is it and more. There are several hiking trails with magnificent views of the ocean and Uvita beach at the property. Paula and Marty are wonderful with their warm welcoming hospitality. They truly thought of every detail in the property to insure their guest have everything needed for an enjoyable stay. They are both very knowledgeable in Costa Rica’s history and local culture. They made many wonderful recommendations to local markets, points of interest, and restaurants throughout my stay. Paula and Marty certainly made me feel very welcome, safe, and comfortable in a new country while visiting for the first time. I would highly recommend the Casa Antigua to anyone who is looking to experience nature and the rainforest in Costa Rica. Thanks Paula & Marty for your hospitality. A romantic fairy tale set deep in the jungle

My husband and I were lucky enough to spend a full week at Casa Antigua and are anxiously looking forward to our return! I loved waking up to the chirping of the Tucans and drifting off in the afternoon heat to the rhythmic hum of the Cicadas. The property is amazing! There are epic views to take in from each sitting area. The landscaping was absolutely stunning! The many types of flowers and fruit trees attract all sorts of butterflies and birds. The house is also beautiful, very clean and well kept. We ended up cooking most of our meals here at the house, the kitchen is stocked with everything you might need as far as dishes, utensils and basic spices. We enjoyed exploring the property, and watching the sunset over the ocean from the top of their hill. We also enjoyed exploring the waterfalls a short drive up the road. The whale tail beach was our favorite of all the beaches we went to while in CR, also within close driving proximity to the house. Paula and Marty were great hosts, very attentive to any wants or needs! We highly recommend a stay here at Casa Antigua!

A romantic second honeymoon in a perfectly beautiful home and location

My husband and I enjoyed a 2 week stay at the lovely Casa Antigua. Hoping to find a romantic, private and beautiful setting , as well as a great home - we were lucky and found it all here. Casa Antigua is more than a simple cottage. It was the custom designed home of the owners Marty and Paula and you can feel the love care and "soul" they put into this home. The rare tropical woods of all the ceilings, doors and some walls and furniture add such warmth and beauty. Flowing curtains add elegance and romance. Aside from being incredible hosts (giving us all the privacy and all the help/advice we needed) Paula and Marty have a beautiful sense of design reflected in every detail of this home. There are 2 living and dinning room areas. One inside with six 6ft screened windows with views of tropical gardens, huge mountains and an ocean view from the dinning table - so even though you are surrounded by mountain views you are always reminded that you are only 10 minutes from several palm tree lined Pacific Ocean beaches, restaurants , shopping and endless activities for adventure ( surfing, kayaking at the ocean, horseback riding on the beach or in the jungle, snorkeling, day trips to Cano Island, Osa Penninsula, Manuel Antonia, and more!) We did a lot with the helpful guidance of our hosts but also enjoyed dining at home, lounging on our outside garden area (also dreamy for star gazing). It was often hard to tear ourselves away from home so we just relaxed. The breezes are lovely there are three rivers below. The indoor bathroom (great shower) also has several windows overlooking gardens so you feel as though your are outside while screened in and private. There is only one other home on this 60 acres and the hiking trails have great views - amazing sunset on top with 360 view of the coastline, mountains, 3 rivers. We hiked and drove a few times to the great waterfall and natural swimming pool down the road off the main property. Many great restaurants in the area along the coast - all within 10-20 min. All you hear on this property are the sounds (and sights) of the hundreds of tropical birds, monkeys and the ocean in the distance (at night)' The road up is totally safe and bumpy so 4 wheel drive is what you need- also a help in this coastal area. So if you are looking for the perfect retreat and combination of beauty , privacy and proximity to just about anything you might wish to enjoy you will love Casa Antigua and its hosts!
