This great beach house has 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 living areas and airconditioning plus a huge deck adjoining the upstairs living room that has a barbecue and outdoor setting for 10. The property also has a sparkling inground pool with tavertine surround and has a fully fenced yard which is child friendy. Close to Bennetts Beach, river and Port Stephens. There is a large 3 car carport which allows plenty of room for cars, boat and bikes Sleeps 10 (1 king, 2 queens, 1 double and 4 singles). PET FRIENDLY This property has WIFI - Linen is not supplied however it can be hired from us and the cost is $22 per person.

Family Get Away

The number of rooms and layout of the house really suited our needs. The amenities were as advertised and sufficient. The kids (and the big kids) loved the pool.We were concerned about some mould in the downstairs bedrooms. The proximity to shops and beaches was perfect.

Disappointing experience with leasing agency

Great location, but as others have indicated the property is not as well maintained or tidy as the photos shown. We needed to spend about 40 mins cleaning the pool area before the kids could swim. Cleaning up before departure was also difficult as there was no vacuum, mop or indoor broom provided. There is also an error with the bed configuration - bedroom two has 1xQB, not 2. This made things tricky as we had to bring our own linen so we didn’t have the right sheets. Ultimately we’d have been willing to overlook these issues as the property was well suited to our needs. However our experience with the leasing agent was so poor that we would be reluctant to return. Prior to arrival it was difficult to arrange alternative key collection as we would be arriving after the office closure time. Then the day after we checked out, I received a rather blunt email advising that there was spray painted graffiti on an exterior laundry door and that we would be held liable for the cost to clean it. I called to explain that the tag was there when we arrived and that we did not report it as it did not look fresh and didn’t impact our use of the property. I attempted to discuss with the agent via phone and sent a follow up email a week later. It has now been more than 2 weeks since the first email and I still haven’t received a call to discuss. It was a disappointing end to a pleasant holiday and based off this we will select an alternative location next year.

Plenty of space for a big family

We loved the massive upstairs deck and communal table, nicely furnished, good size bedrooms and plenty of living areas. We really had a lot of fun in the pool and cooked up a storm on the great big BBQ

Beautiful property close to shops

Lovely house in quiet street, quick walk to shops, bakery and beach. Comfortable rooms with plenty of beds and living spaces upstairs and down. Everything we required was there. Great balcony for alfresco dining. Gas bottles did run out ( both empty) so on last day we had no hot water, however I feel that would be a very uncommon occurrence

The photos made it look ALOT bigger.

Rules were big on leaving the property clean. We did what we could as there was no mop, no working broom and the vacuum was a waste of time. It was very pokey and small areas, but the photos made it look very spacious, so be aware of that. If only a young family it would be ok. Some Fridge or kitchen would be good down stairs being near the pool was hard going up and down stairs. I took my elderly parents away for the 64 anniversary and we had a lot of trouble getting dad up the stairs and mum not slipping over on the tiles at the front door due to all the water pooling there. I had use my towels as mats so that no one slipped over. Compared to other properties I have rented this one comes in at 1 star I am sorry. Plus when we tried to ring the after-hours number it didn't work. Also at checkout time had to poke the keys under the front door so I couldn't explain about not mopping or sweeping.

Nice accommodation

Nice place great facilities upstairs and downstairs; wireless internet was great. A few areas for improvement - two fridges upstairs none downstairs; smoke alarms had been removed and were relocated to the broom closet with batteries the smoke alarm started beeping during the night and couldn’t find where it was coming from. Not quite safe and probably not compliant but can be easily rectified. Air con not the best one split system in living room nothing in bedrooms so hot at night.

Great

Was a great property just didn't realise till arrival that it may allow pets but doesn't state that they are not allowed inside I classify my dog as family and would of liked her inside with us but she had to be outside by herself and sleep out on the verandah but overall was a great place to stay at very peaceful and great spot to get away from the city

Weekend away

Was a nice property, very easy and smooth check in process, real estate was lovely and professional, the photos online do look a lot nicer and cleaner then in person, overall nice place to stay but would have expected it to be a bit cleaner, note the front entertaining deck which had roller covers where not on the property as shown in the photos this was a bit disappointing, would be back to stay again great property for large familys wanting a weekend away, location is awesome.

Cleanliness was the group’s major complaint

The property could be cleaner , lounges obviously aren’t cleaned under , the oven was dirty , the pool filter house where pool toys are stored is a snake haven with lots of lead litter , old bbq cover and leaf litter beside the bbq . General broken items , the downstairs screen sliding door , most of the patio blinds on the upstairs verandah .. maybe a pook cover to stop leaves from entering as we spent time pulling these out . Thanks

Had a lovely family stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The property was clean, tidy and well set up for families with children or larger groups of friends - being pet friendly with a secure fence was a definite bonus. As others have stated, you need to bring all consumables and linen yourself but there is an IGA 2 minutes walk away, so it is extremely easy to grab supplies upon arrival. Walking distance to beach and river as well. Highly recommend for a relaxing pet friendly stay close to everything you could need.

Lack of facilities and inclusions

Upon arrival my son needed to go to the bathroom, and there was no toilet paper - upon hunting and a phonecall I found 1 roll for 10 people for 4 days. This was the start of things that I would expect to be there, not being present which then further builds resentment. I spoke to the real estate agent on the phone about what we needed to bring. They said sheets, pillow slips and towels. We did not bring bathmats, hand soap (soap at all) - if you use soap on a basin then there is no soap dish or anywhere to put the soap, shower soap (I guess you can use the same one), toilet paper, tea towels (luckily we had one packed - but it was to protect something, not intended for use). There is an extremely small kitchen - I would say it would be smaller / similar to a 1 bedroom apartment kitchen, with two dishwasher tablets (the dishwasher was half size a standard one). Again this is for 2 families for 4 days. Then there is a BBQ - that is quite nice, apart from if you open the doors underneath - it is disgusting. The ideal situation with a BBQ is when there are utensils to cook with. There was one pair of tongs and no scraper / BBQ tool type thing. The amount of things you need to bring (like hand soap and toilet paper - the real estate gave us another 3 rolls - we went shopping and just purchased some), made this quite a frustrating holiday and then brings up a lot of the things you typically overlook. The location is great - Hawks Nest is great

Decent for large families

The house was clean and fairly spacious with plenty of space for a large family to have somewhere to rest or interact. The deck and pool were lovely. The only issues we had were that all the fly screens in the living area had holes making them unusable and the gutters were so clogged with leaves and sticks that when it rained the deck had a miniature waterfall blocking dry access to the table and chairs outside. This wouldn't have been noticed or a problem but we arrived during a heavy rainfall making it very noticeable. Otherwise, it was a very lovely house that was well stocked with cooking utensils and fridges in a good location close to shops.

Holiday Home

Property was perfect.. close to everything. Room size more than adequate. Love the bar fridge on the deck. unfortunately BBQ was very dirty and pool was very dirty.

Great location, however house poorly maintained

Hawks Nest is a fantastic place for a family holiday. This house is in a great location being able to walk to both of the amazing beaches and close to the local shops. The house has lots of potential and if it had been well maintained would have been perfect. We spent 4 of our 7 day holiday having to deal with house issues, from a roach infestation, malfunctioning fridge, a sprinkler system that sprayed into one of the downstairs bedrooms and a very dusty house! It looks as though not much has been spent on maintaining the property. While we enjoyed our time at hawks nest we wouldn’t stay at this place again. On a positive note the real estate agency that manages this property where great at resolving all issues very quickly. We just wish there hadn’t been any issues to resolve.
