A wonderfully comfortable stay

Compass Cottage is a truly welcoming and cozy home from home as described by Henry Adams. The cottage is beautifully presented and thoughtfully appointed with comfortable beds, sofa's and plentiful hot water. An extremely convenient location for the amenities in Emsworth too. Whilst I wasn't always able to park directly outside the cottage, there was always a space along the road available during my stay.

Cute town - the location served us well. The management company was prompt in their communication. I reached out before our stay to request a fan(s) since the UK was in the midst of a heat wave and was told that the management company would not allow fans since they needed a yearly inspection. They said we could bring our own (not possible since we traveled from overseas) or purchase one in town. It was so uncomfortable sleeping that we *did* try to purchase a fan - but there were none to be found (even the gentleman at the town hardware store said fans weren't even available online or on Amazon at that time). I understand travel during the summer comes with risk of high temperatures... but a fan to help with sleeping at night (on the upper floor) did not seem like an unreasonable request. The Airbnb we rented in London just prior to our Emsworth stay came with 2 fans and while it was still warm, the fans made our stay so much more comfortable.

A dream stay by the pond

We had a very enjoyable short break at Compass Cottage. The standout in the property was the quality of the beds - we slept extremely well in the very comfy mattresses! The cottage also benefits from excellent double glazing which almost removes the traffic noise from Main Road. Overall the property was comfy and cosy and we enjoyed staying in as much as we did going out and exploring the surrounding area. Would highly recommend.

Working with a gorgeous view

A colleague stayed here for three weeks whilst on a work project based in Emsworth, He thoroughly enjoyed his stay due to fab location, water view, walking distance to work venue and Emsworth town as well as numerous walks by the water. He hopes to be back.

An excellent stay

Clean, comfortable cottage in an excellent location. We used the trains to go on many trips rather than move the car. The mill pond path was quite narrow in places but we managed to park quite close to the cottage. The kitchen was the best equipped in any we stayed (apart from a dishwasher) and the downstairs loo took some time to get used to. Overall the cottage was very warm and there was ample hot water - perfect for a winter break.

Great location for South Coast

Great little cottage for local exploring. Well equipped and a good distance to local walks and shops. Parking very restricted, as per owners notes, and a red van parked outside the front window for the duration of my stay, blocking the view of the millpond. Shower restrictive for anyone over 5’6. Otherwise a pleasant stay.

Lovely Emsworth cottoage

Compass Cottage is a very sweet house set in a lovely area. The house is very well equipped and comfortable. The only downsides are the lack of parking and the downstairs bathroom. The bathroom is also low so those over 6ft will struggle a little. I will look to book again when visiting the area.

Great location

The weather was very hot and airless. The cottage would benefit from a fan in each bedroom. And the fact that the stairs are very steep and the bathroom is downstairs perhaps needs to be more prominently explained. Otherwise, the cottage is well appointed and in a great location.

Lovely little cottage

We stayed over Easter weekend as we have friends who own a property on the same road. The property was perfect for our needs, bedtime and breakfast. We spent the rest of the day out and about. Seemed to have recently been painted and we had brand new towels. Stairs are a little dangerous for little ones but that isn't a fault it's just because it's a cosy cottage. We would stay there again if we couldn't find somewhere a little larger. We were 2 adults and 2 under 5s.

Great location

As my brother lives in the area we knew the location so no problem finding it. The cottage was cosy with a lovely bright kitchen and dining area and pretty well furnished bedrooms. Stairs are steep but no surprise in a cottage and we managed very well. Downstairs bathroom does take getting used to but was fine. Surrounding area is brilliant, the village has everything and more within a 10 minute stroll and we enjoyed days out in Portsmouth Harbour, more there than you can see in a day to be honest and also Chichester. We used the train to get to both places so no worries about parking. We did take a car ride to Bosham which is very pretty and worth a visit. If you just want to stay in Emsworth there are lots of walks and interesting little shops to browse or just sit and relax looking at the water. Definitely recommend.

very clean, great location but....

Very clean, everything in the property in excellent order and in a lovely location overlooking the mill pond but it's impossible to park outside the property. I know it's a small property and the modernization is the best it could be but the toilet/shower room is in the wrong place (at the back through the kitchen). I also found the stairs to be very steep and difficult to use safely. Im sorry but I would not recommend the property.

Cosy Charming Well Maintained Cottage in Excellent Location

We loved staying at this lovely little cottage. Whether it be looking out onto the water watching the swans go by, or warming toes on the open fire... The cottage is tastefully decorated and furniture of of good quality. We especially appreciated the super comfortable bed. It is very well equipped containing all that we needed, if we had to note anything a dishwasher and a hoover would enhance cleanliness. The property is well maintained everything was in good working order. Overall cleanliness was very good. I would say that the main point would be the utensils, pans and cutlery were not very clean... perhaps having a dishwasher would solve this. There was some dust under beds and in corners, ...I would have cleaned but there was no hoover and we did not find a dustpan until the end of our stay. The bedroom windows were in need of a little extra cleaning... the downfall of having such an inviting view!!! We really appreciated the personalised brochure left by Carol and Carlos. It was a lovely touch to leave biscuits and milk. We would appreciated having an extra roll of toilet paper and little more washing up liquid. The whole property is extremely cosy and welcoming and we were very comfortable during our stay... thank you for hosting us and we hope that you will welcome us back next time we come.

Nice Cottage with some flaws

First of all this is a great cottage with a lovely view. The bathroom isn't really made for tall people, luckily we are rather small. What you really should do is control if the persons who rented it before really did wash the dishes. Mould and dirty dishes is really not fine. Especially in times of Covid. I had to wash everything before use. I loved the garden, it's well kept with lovely roses. I'm not sure about the pet friendly stuff - it was advertised as pet friendly, bit there's stuff in the house the says it's not? You sent me a document about our stay and what we should do and what we shouldn't after a week in which was too late and very strange. No idea what to make of this. Communication over TripAdvisor didn't really work and it seemed to be a bit of a problem to get the information we needed, like two days before is very late in comparison to other cottages One other thing - more than one key for 2 people who might want to do different stuff from time to time would be nice.

Loved staying and working from Compass Cottage

Lovely cottage which is well equipped and in a great location. I stayed and easily worked from here for 6 weeks, everything was great. Beautiful views from the second you open the front door. Great location in the centre of Emsworth near the sea, and the independent shops, cafes and pubs.

Delightful Artisan Cottage in Emsworth

A delightful little artisan cottage, with character features but very tastefully modernised for a comfortable stay. Beautiful ever-changing views across the Mill Pond with the turning tides. Lots of lovely walks from the doorstep, with no need to drive. Emsworth has everything one needs, with shops and eating places for every taste. Good transport links to Chichester, Fishbourne Palace and Bosham. A most enjoyable week.

Excellent Short Stay!

I took Compass Cottage for a short break with my two grown-up sons. The property was all that we required being close to the water and within easy walking distance to Emsworth town centre. The house was clean and modern and we were lucky to be able eat/drink outside in the compact rear garden, The bathroom was similarly in great condition although the ceiling height was somewhat low for two lads over 6'2"! Charlotte at Henry Adams was very helpful. Great place. Would look to book again in 2021!
