About this property

The Crash Pad ~ Quirky Riverfront Retreat with Vintage VW Van

Summary:
You've found the perfect mix of rustic quirkiness and modern comfort in The Crash Pad. Always wanted to glamp in the Ozarks in a vintage VW van? We've got you! Is a fresh modern vibe with great views what you seek? We've got you too! This two story cabin is made for modern adventurers.

The Space:
Upstairs, you'll find a newly renovated kitchen with stainless appliances that is open to a living area with sweeping views of the White River from the plentiful windows and sliding glass door that leads you to the covered porch. Also upstairs is a full bathroom with stackable washer dryer and tub/shower combo and a master bedroom with queen bed. Channel your inner hippie and either take the exterior stairs or the interior ladder/stair combo down to the "garage". Play board games at the pub table, snuggle up for a nap in the vintage VW van, or watch your favorite shows on the smart tv. The downstairs features two twin beds (daybed with trundle) and a full bed. Outside you'll find an enormous deck with a lounge area, cornhole, and enough room to have a cartwheel contest. The space also offers a propane grill and firepit.

The Crash Pad sits on a bluff overlooking the White River, but does not have direct river access. It should be noted that the bluff is steep and caution should be used , especially with small children. Public river access is available at the boat launch just 5 minutes away. The cabin is accessed by a gravel road that can be bumpy in spots and may not be suitable for vehicles with very low clearance. It's not accessible by motorcycle.

The Neighborhood:
There are three rental cabins that end of the gravel road private and share the riverfront acreage: The Crash Pad, Trout Run Lodge, and Little Fox Cottage.

Getting Around:
Just over the bridge in Izard County, The Crash Pad is 3 minutes to Angler's restaurant and fishing on the White River, 6 minutes to Walmart, 8 minutes to Town Square, and 15 minutes to Blanchard Springs.

Other Things to Note:
*At this time, this cabin isn't pet friendly. As much as I adore the furbabies, I want to respect the integrity of my beloved VW.

Great spot to relax
We really enjoyed the house and the "away from it all" feel, while still having a house that had clearly been recently renovated and was in excellent shape. I didn't tell my 2 kids anything about it, so when they opened the lower-level entry door into a room with a VW bus, their reaction was priceless. Everything was in good (or great) condition. We might have been a bit nervous with small kids on the ladder-stairs, but ours were fine. My son loved the corn hole setup on the deck, and the views of the river across the bluff were great. It's a grand view from the upstairs balcony/deck, and due to the great weather, we spent a fair amount of time out there lounging. Here are my only gripes about the property/listing: 1 - It is advertised as "riverfront" and looks as such on the map, but you are actually on a sheer bluff with railroad tracks running at the base. There is no physical way to get down to the water on foot, even though it is not very far away. So you definitely have a water view, but not water access. This would have been fine if it was disclosed on the description, but I basically packed my fishing rods for nothing, since there wasn't a way for me to walk to the water. The gravel road is roughly 1 mile "as the crow flies" from the paved road (maybe 1.25 miles actual driving?) and is relatively bumpy in places (slow driving). It was just inconvenient enough that I decided I didn't want to drive off to find a spot to fish on my own. There was almost 0 cell phone signal in the area, so I decided not to leave the family behind and completely lose contact. Not a huge deal since it wasn't a "fishing trip", but if it was my primary intended activity, I would have been quite irritated at the surprise. Details like this would have come out in the reviews of an older rental, but since this one is pretty new, I was apparently the guinea pig. 2 - Minor issues with the internet and, oddly, the TV sound quality. In both cases, I was able to unplug and reboot the router & TV and the problems resolved themselves. This happened 3 times in 2 days. The internet would have been less of an issue, except that we relied on it entirely due to the almost-zero phone signal. 3 - The "master bath" shower is pretty non-standard. I'm not very tall, so it was fine, but if you are a 6'+ man you'll have a problem getting your head wet without stooping down pretty low. I'd guess the shower head is 5' high. I'll go back if I don't plan to fish!
