This house is called the boat house and inside you feel like you are indeed living in a canal boat or similar. Everything is perfectly arranged in a compact space so that you feel connected to each other without being on top of each other. The focus of the large living space is a glorious long table with benches that spans the length of the room and looks out onto the water through a row of big windows with screens. We ate here, wrote in our journals her, drank coffee, and watched the world go by. When we arrived it was cold despite the heat wave in most of the country so we had a fire the first night—all was in good working order. The kitchen is small, but well-appointed. The range/stove was great to cook on. There is a lot stuff to do nearby in Winter Harbor and Schoodic Point is a short drive or bike ride. If you like the hubbub of Bar Harbor you can be there in under an hour either by car or ferry. If you are like us though you may discovery that this house in it’s lovely spot with its gaggle of geese and curious deer was all you needed for a perfect vacation and you’ll find yourself wishing you never have to leave.
