Paws in the Pines, quaint romantic cabin, world class fishing, dog friendly

*** Longing for an escape from the world? A place to recharge, regroup
and reconnect?
*** Seeking a romantic getaway?
*** Need an amazing base camp for your outdoor adventures? Fishing is
your passion?
*** Don’t go anywhere without your furry friend(s)?

Located just 37 miles from Colorado Springs, nestled on 1.27 acres of tall pines and aspen trees, Paws in the Pines offers the perfect blend of modern convenience and natural beauty in this all-season cabin.

In an area known for natural beauty and abundant public lands, it can be your perfect base camp for all your adventures. The location is ideal for exploring the region’s riches, less than 30 minutes to almost everything the area has to offer from world class fishing, hiking, museums, history, great food, etc.

It’s close enough that you don’t spend all your time driving, yet it feels like a world away. To get to the cabin, your picturesque drive winds through hillsides adorned with elk herds, horses, yaks, Huerfano cows, miniature donkeys and more. Then, a short one-mile drive on a maintained dirt road brings you to your mountain oasis where you are surrounded by towering trees and welcomed into the tranquility and serenity of the mountains.

When you step inside, you are greeted by the rustic and somewhat quirky charm of the recently remodeled interior. Taking a cue from the numerous bear paw prints found in the snow when Paws in the Pines was first purchased, a theme developed. Embracing the wild spirit of Mother Nature’s mountain animals, each space is adorned with statues, wall hangings and pictures that pay homage to the diverse wildlife that call the mountains home.

This delightful retreat is adorned with wildlife accents and cozy furnishings carefully curated for comfort and character. In a bit of whimsy, the animals are even named.

Beautiful beetle killed blue stained pine are gorgeous feature walls in both the living room and bedroom where the focused lights highlight the unique character of the wood.

Your first fire in the woodburning stove is prepared and waiting for you. Just light the fire and settle in. The flickering firelight will invite you to snuggle up with a good book, good drink and a good time.

The well-appointed kitchen is equipped with everything needed to prepare your own special meal. The open floor plan allows cooking while still engaging with others, even watching the 55” smart television in the living room.

A vintage lawyer’s bookshelf offers many books, games and puzzles to fill your quiet time, or stay connected with our high-speed satellite internet by Starlink.

Romantic nights await as you reconnect with your loved one with firelight, flickering (non-flame) candles, adult libations, your favorite tunes and a little dancing in the moonlight on the wide-open floor. It doesn’t get any better than this.

During the days, relax on the gorgeous gated front deck where you can lounge in the loveseat, catch some sun and simply soak up the mountain vibe. Unwind and enjoy the sounds of nature through birds chirping, leaves rustling and gentle whispers of the clean mountain air. Watch the wildlife as you blow bubbles off the enclosed back deck that features a barbeque, patio table and chairs, and a propane fire pit.

Dogs are welcome to snuggle on the numerous dog beds, blankets and bowls that are provided. Gated front and back decks allow them to enjoy their own unique experience. A large, fenced area adjacent to the cabin is dedicated just for our furry pets.

Later, step outside in the crisp mountain night and gaze up at a sky view that is internationally acknowledged as a Dark Sky Area. Moonbeams dance through the pine trees as you may hear the howl of wolves at the Colorado Wolf Sanctuary and Wildlife Center. Experience the tranquility as winter’s snow, illuminated by the moon, appears almost fluorescent.

Don’t miss out on the chance to experience the magic of this quaint cabin. It’s an enchanting haven that reminds you it’s time to take a break, create new amazing experiences and memories, reconnect with nature and embrace the simple joys of life.

What a wonderful slice of heaven in the Pines of Colorado. From the moment you arrive you feel at home, starting with a welcome letter from the hosts. This cabin did not disappoint. Highly recommend and we will be back again.

Better than we could have imagined!!
My husband and I were looking for a peaceful getaway for our anniversary. You always roll the dice when booking a place that isn’t a standard hotel but Paws in the Pines was a true jewel. We followed perfectly clear directions to an oasis among the trees and rolling hills. It was a serene setting only made more perfect by the hosts Jody and Dwight who not only made my husband and I feel incredibly special with the anniversary card that was left but they included our dog Max in their thoughtfulness as well, leaving him a bag of yummy treats and more toys to play with than he knew what to do with. We spent nights staring at a starry sky next to a warming fire and had everything we could have possibly wanted or needed to make our trip complete. They thought of everything and we fully plan to go there again in the future. We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend! Thank you Jody and Dwight!

The cabin was perfect! Very relaxing getaway! Everything you could ever need to just unwind and recharge! The host, Jody, was amazing. She was very responsive and went the extra mile to make us and our fur baby feel welcome! One of the best experiences we ever had and will definitely go back again!

Paradise in the Mountains
The cabin had absolutely everything my husband and I needed. We brought our two dogs-one 40 lbs and one 75 lbs-who loved it! The attention to detail and the small personal touches that the hosts provided made us feel at home and made everything so easy to operate and access. The communication was fantastic and I felt like I was given all the information possible to make our trip relaxing. The location is perfect! We were able to access so many wonderful attractions/parks in the area but also stay secluded in the mountains when at the cabin. Best of both worlds! We are so grateful for the opportunity to spend time at Paws in the Pines.

A very quiet Independence Day
Paws in the Pines is a quiet, restful and comfortable cabin with plentiful amenities that provided a respite for our two dogs and us from the loud noise of July 4th fireworks around our suburban home. It was a welcoming, impeccably clean and turnkey VRBO experience. From the outset the hosts were incredibly accommodating when our travel plans went awry. We also really appreciated the dog-related features and the nod to pet safety, although we would really love it if the dogs could have access to the fenced area from the back deck, so we could lounge there while the dogs could go in and out as they please. We took great delight in watching the hummingbirds on the back deck and even saw a doe with her two fauns sauntering through the property one afternoon! We do have some suggestions that could make a future cabin visit even more enjoyable. Although the special welcome treats were much appreciated, if dogs are anticipated we recommend not putting chocolate or candy where dogs might be tempted. In the warm months it would be great to have screen doors on the front and back to capture a breeze but keep the bugs out, as well as bug zappers outside. For vertically challenged folks it is difficult to reach the first aid kit above the fridge and to see the bathroom mirror easily. Could those be repositioned? Despite these minor details we truly enjoyed our stay at Paws in the Pines and we look forward to our next visit. To Jody and Dwight, thank you SO much!

PERFECT Pet-Friendly Cabin
We had an absolutely lovely time! The cabin was immaculately clean and stocked with anything and everything you could imagine! In our haste to leave, we left several essentials, but were completely covered once we arrived. We loved sitting on the back deck watching the hummingbirds fly in, and several deer passed by too! At night, we enjoyed the sounds of the owls. We experienced several thunderstorms while here, and nothing hits quite like thunder in the mountains. Now for the dog lovers… we love traveling with our two corgis, but few cabins are “truly” pet friendly- Paws in the Pines is the exception. From dog bowls and toys, to blankets and beds, to an amazing fenced in yard and deck(s), this cabin made traveling with pets a breeze!!! It was so nice to simply open the front door and let the dogs run free knowing they were safe and secure. A true luxury if you’re traveling with pets! We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and are already planning a trip back! Thank you, Jody, for your hospitality and for sharing Paws in the Pines with us 💗

Lovely spot!
We loved our stay at the cabin! The location was perfect for exploring the area - we visited Flourissant Fossil Beds, Mueller State Park, Pikes Peak, the Wolf Sanctuary, and Garden of the Gods. The cabin was exactly what we wanted! It is in a lovely location. When sitting on the deck with my coffee in the morning I was able to look out at pine trees, smell the clean air, and watch the hummingbirds. The owners have really thought of everything and all of the special touches were really appreciated. We were celebrating my son's HS graduation and there was a mug, candy and balloons awaiting us upon our arrival which resulted in a big smile. We loved our stay and would absolutely come back if in the area.

The pictures dont do this place justice. It was beautiful and amazing. Everything about this place was wonderful. The host response quickly to any concerns or questions u may have. The view is amazing especially at night. It was so peaceful. I loved watching the humming birds come and go from the feeder. Never would have thought humming birds would be in the woods. Lol. Got to see deer at night and early morning. Everything was labeled so it was easy to find anything you was looking for and the snacks they leave are amazing. Wish i could have stayed longer. Definitely will be back again!

The perfect mountain getaway
We absolutely loved staying at "Paws in the Pines" for our anniversary getaway! The cabin is in a lovely, forested neighborhood up in the mountains. While it looks somewhat plain on the outside, it is absolutely beautiful inside! It was spotlessly clean, with all kinds of thoughtful touches that made it feel more like a luxury home. I felt completely comfortable and at home, while also appreciating a level of added beauty and comfort that I don't have in my regular home. I don't usually go in for animal décor, but theirs was really tastefully executed, and didn't go overboard. The owners were also really good about anticipating all kinds of things that people might forget when they're rushing out the door for their trip, and adding a few extras (chocolates on our pillows, an amazing variety of hot beverage makings, the equipment to make anything that doesn't require a full-size oven - though there is a countertop oven, a fire already laid in the wood stove, plus more)! One more note on the side: you will want a vehicle with at least five to six inches of clearance to drive to Paws in the Pines; you go on a series of dirt roads to get to it. 4WD/AWD is recommended. It was the perfect getaway: homey and luxurious at the same time!

Dog-cation 2024
We decided to make our Colorado vacation a “Dog-cation” staying in a dog friendly place with day trips to dog friendly activities. We found our activities, which then narrowed our search for the cabin. How incredibly fortunate we were to find Paws in the Pines! Jody and Dwight are wonderful hosts. The cabin isn’t just a rental, it is their personal cabin, and they are so kind to share it with others. From the information sent in advance of our arrival (be sure to read it, very informative and well thought out) to opening the front door and immediately feeling welcome, they have thought of everything for their human and canine guests. Most places say “dog friendly” which means you can have your dog with you, but they are truly “dog friendly” in remembering what a pet needs when they are on vacation too! The renovation they did on the cabin is so well thought out, not to mention adorable! It very was easy to find spaces for our things for our 4-night stay. Our two Mini Aussies felt right at home immediately and they loved the decks as much as we did. The cabin is very clean, everything you need is there as well as all clearly labeled, just the perfect place to stay! We would stay again and recommend to others. Paws in the Pines has earned a 5-star recommendation from us! Gregg, Sandy, Oakley, and Steel.

A refreshing mountain getaway
The hosts have clearly gone the extra mile to create a welcoming space for our furry companions! We would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for an easy escape with their canine best friend! We were not exactly sure what amenities to expect, but the host had everything we needed ready for us. We were so appreciative of the getaway and the comfortable cabin that was relatively close to plenty of notable locations around area. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants a cute mountain getaway!
