Kotare Coastal Cottage ~ Papa Aroha

Set on a coastal property, 15 km drive north of Coromandel Town, Kotare Coastal Cottage is a one bedroom “retro”, fully self-contained bach. Built in the 1950's the bach retains much of it's original character and charm.

Clean and comfortable, there is a large queen bedroom, toilet, bathroom with shower/vanity. Open plan living area with full cooking facilities, small under bench fridge and the lounge room with access onto the sunny north facing balcony and views of the sea. Surrounded in a natural bush and ocean setting with stunning scenery!
Guests also have a dedicated outdoor space in “the secret garden”, and also a lawn & bush/garden area to the east of the property where you can BBQ your dinner. On the front lawn area is a bench seat, designated for specular sunset viewing! Easy access over the road (less than 10 meter walk) and down a formed track to the pebble beach for swimming, surfcasting, beachcombing or sitting under the ancient Pohutukawa trees and taking in the wonderful views of the ocean and islands.

The location of the accommodation is “virtual” waterfront and makes an excellent base for exploring the Northern Coromandel and day trips north to discover the remote and rugged Northern Coromandel – spectacular coastlines, walks, secluded bays, white sandy beaches, pristine native bush. Explore further north to Colville (a store, 2 cafes), Port Charles, Big Sandy Bay, Waikawau Beach.

Enjoy the safe all tide swimming at nearby Waitete Bay sandy beaches and make the most of the beautiful natural unspoilt scenery, fishing/kayaking/hiking opportunities without the crowds.

Secure parking in front of the bach and plenty of room to turn around a boat.
5 Night minimum stay from mid-December through to end of January.
Pets are by arrangement, Pet Policy applies. Pets must be not be left at the property unattended.

Snorkeling and motor boating offer great chances to get out on the surrounding water, or you can seek out an adventure with horse riding and hiking nearby.

Perfect spot for short getaway
Awesome wee bach. Perfect spot. Quiet area despite the main road running in front (which can't actually be seen). Lovely sunny deck with view out to the ocean. Paul has an awesome garden with a wee 'beach' seating area with unobstructed views across the ocean. Clean and tidy with the most comfortable bed!

Better alternatives out there
The photos/description made it appear to be a stand-alone bach, we booked as we thought it was on it's own private property - It is unfortunately positioned right on the owners front lawn making it kind of awkward and lacks privacy. The owners were lovely but we are private people and would of preffered no interaction, also the owners friends would be coming and going and the entry is outside the bach which was annoying as our dogs react to noises. We specifically wanted a place to stay where we could be alone and also let our dogs run free, but as the owners house was right there and they had a new puppy, we felt we had to keep the dogs inside most of the time. The bach itself is ok and as expected for an old place. Only note was that we were originally planning a BBQ but the area was a mess, the bach pamphlet states guests need to ask the owner to set up the area, if we knew this was required we would of requested this be set up before-hand. Location wise, the views and sunsets are amazing but the beach accross the road is not the best for dogs and terrible for surf casting. Overall, not happy with the stay and we wish we booked somewhere else. It is overpeiced for what you get.

This little bach was perfect for our 3 night stay. It had everything we wanted. The grounds are lovely and the owner was great, welcoming us to use them to view beautiful sunsets. Cute little track across the road to the beach, which was nice and quiet. Would definitely come back again.

A stay in paradise.
The cottage was delightful with a wonderful view of the sea which you could get down to on a steep but pretty track, across the road. The cottage has been recently decorated recently. The linen and towels all very good and the bed was very comfortable. Nearby beaches are all a short drive away, the road is too dangerous to walk along. We spent many hours enjoying the view from the lawn, and enjoyed the shaded area out the back when it got too hot. The sunsets are really something. Only complaint is there isn’t actually any wifi and coverage for 2 degrees was sporadic at best, Laundry facilities are provided by the host if you ask. Over all if you want a quiet and relaxing holiday I would highly recommend this little cottage.
