About this property

Coasters, waterfront nature retreat

A winter and summer haven each season maximised by the location of this house, ideally situated in Sydney's most spectacular natural environment. It's remoteness belies the easy drive and ferry ride from the big smoke.

The view from the main bed is second to none accompanied by the lapping sounds of water that travel up to the house at night and bathe you with sleep tonic.

A massive deck runs the entire length of the house and is far and away the place one finds oneself gravitating to. The deck has a cooking station with a BBQ, gas hotplate, Habachi grill, Gozney Pizza oven and an induction hot plate. It's a cooks paradise kitchen. There is the option of doing some fire cooking at the spectacular fire pit.

Even in the worst weather your weekend away will be enjoyed because at the Retreat rather than feeling cooped up its just another nature show.

The easy and very pleasant ferry ride from Palm beach is followed by a short walk through stunning bushland, where you may very well spot your first Wallaby or perhaps Black Cockatoo, and up the windy path which situates you in the accessible yet very remote feeling beach/bush house. For Sydneysiders this coastal retreat is right on your doorstep yet feels like a million miles from home. For travellers it is a unique opportunity to explore the treasures of The Pittwater. Enjoy time out from the hustle and bustle of life and unwind in this secluded, comfortable and stylish retreat.

Stunning bushwalks in a National Park with opportunities to visit some Aboriginal Rock Art and beautiful isolated beaches, numerous non-powered watersport options (2Kayaks and a SUP are included for guests), fishing, swimming at the jewel of the area, (The Basin), wildlife spotting and so it goes.

Great Escape in a Special Location
We had a wonderful time staying at Coasters. Perched above the water the house has all the amenities needed to ensure we had a wonderful relaxing time. The layout of the house means you just want to sit on the deck and take in the spectacular view. A special house in a beautiful part of Pittwater.

Will certainly be back!
This house is a real treasure. Gary has put some serious love into making this place so special and is a MUST visit. The views are spectacular, and having the house open at night with the breeze flowing throughout was so nice. Gary is a wonderful host who made us feel welcomed and comfortable. We will definitely be back.

About the host

I have engaged with the area for many years as a keen Kayak fisherman. Having grown up in beautiful Cape Town with a mountain as my back garden I am not easily impressed by natural environments. Coasters and The Basin has got to be right up there with the most beautiful natural environments anywhere in the world. I consider myself to be very fortunate to have discovered this beautiful gem of a place and enjoy the pleasure that friends and guests derive from visiting or having a stay.

Why they chose this property

After 25 years of Kayak fishing all of Sydneys waterways including Sydney Harbour, Middle Harbour and the Pittwater I found myself consistently orientated towards the waterways of the Pittwater/Hawkesbury. Furthermore I would inevitably make my way to the basin and the secluded beaches around the area. After discovering Coasters Retreat and seeing a house for sale I thought there would be no harm going to look. After seeing a few properties that were for sale at Coasters I walked on to the deck of 42 and in front of the agent (my neighbour now) I started jumping up and down with ecstatic energy. One is supposed to appear indifferent in front of a real estate agent but I didn't have any choice in the matter. Due to current circumstances and in order to afford the property I have no choice but to put it on the holiday rental market. My aim is to build up a database of return guests who are fortunate to discover this gem of a property.

What I have come to appreciate in the time that I have spent at the house is that it has an energy that reminds me of the house that I grew up in in Cape Town with a mountain out the back and vast ocean views in the front.

In the longer term our plan is to work towards this becoming our primary residence as part of a semi-retirement plan.

What makes this property unique

The most unique aspect of the property, relative to others you may be considering for the ultimate close to city yet remote getaway, is the elevated North West aspect with views that simply couldn't be better. The benefits of the elevated North West aspect include reliable and consistent cooling breezes in summer (the added bonus is that mozzies hate the breeze you will love) and all day sun on the deck in winter.

Stylish, comfortable, well equipped, clean and fresh, breezy, cool, open, private, spacious and solidly built on massive boulders.

There are a number of options for holiday home rental in the area and they all offer exactly the same in terms of the phenomenal location. The retreat has the advantage of being there without even having to leave the house/deck. Even in the worst weather your weekend away will be enjoyed because at the Retreat rather than feeling cooped up its always just another nature show.

Another unique benefit of The Retreat is that it offers a level of privacy that is not typical of the area. The house is not only located in a beautiful area it is situated in a position that allows maximum enjoyment of the beauty without even having to get out of bed. Wherever you are in the house you are engaged by the beauty of the location.
