About this property

Beachfront on the wild west coast

Welcome to Blackbeard's Cottage. We hope that you have a wonderful stay in our much loved home, so named because we could just imagine that salty old soul sitting and looking out to the ocean that he (and we) love so much. This is the perfect place to switch off, forget the world and just relax! The sunsets are always amazing, the soothing sound of the waves in the background, and the stunning views make it one of the most special places to stay in the area. It is wild and windy though so be prepared for that! There is no denying that some parts of the cottage are still 'rough' or that sand gets in everywhere because you are so close to the beach, but if you are ok with these, then you can enjoy the magic of the setting. If you choose to keep in touch with the modern world, we have fibre optic internet, which means that you can take your laptop to the table on the deck and work from home, enjoying the views and sea air.

A few important things to note before booking:
*The price per night is for two people. An extra $20 per head per night will be added to all guests over two years old.
*You will need to supply all of your own linen. The beds have pillows and duvets.
* Because of our eco-friendly sewerage system, guests are requested to only use eco friendly personal products at the cottage.

Please note that access to the cottage is down a short grassy slope, which can be slippery when wet. Those with mobility issues may find this a challenge.

Magical Place
10 Stars. I love this place. Cute and perfectly formed. It has everything you need for a simple west coast beach stay. Everything was nice and clean. The view is amazing, and the beach feels almost out of this world at times. Would love to go back.

Easter Break
We loved this place. Amazing location on the edge of the dunes and looking out across the beach to the sea. The bach is simple and well equipped with a very comfortable bed. It was a relaxing stay and we even enjoyed a swim in the surprisingly warm ocean. Already planning our next visit to this charming seaside village.

Fascinating view on the rough Tasman Sea
From the wooden deck we enjoyed the fascinating view on the rough Tasman Sea ... the bathroom takes some getting used to.

Blackbeard’s Cottage was bought sight unseen when we lived in Hong Kong. It was quite some time before we got to see it in person, and although in poor condition, we loved it immediately. We have slowly worked to make improvements, and have quite some way to go still, so there are parts that are original to the condition in which we bought the property. As we do not currently live in NZ, this is a slow process!

Why they chose this property

Only one word to answer the 'why this property' question- "location". The views make you feel as though you are one with the beach, and in fact, the constant presence of sand in the cottage confirms this!

What makes this property unique

The joy of the location of the cottage, the views, the sunset, the thrill of the wind, the serenity and peace of going to sleep listening to the waves cannot be underestimated
